@OP:

Morrigan and my Warden are still together. Morrigan actually says so. They only have different things to do at the moment. I like that because it emphasizes that no matter how much they love each other, they are still individuals with their own interests - and their own stories. I'm sure they'll meet again and stay together for a time again - and go off to do their own thing for a time yet again.

The same for Hawke and their SO. I don't think there's any indication that they're broken up. They're just separate at the moment.

Now if you'd be talking about romancing Alistair in DAO, you'd have a point. It is all very plausible, but that doesn't make the pitfalls any less painful for those who experienced them.

Morrigan is still deeply in love with the Warden.

Merrill is helping refugees elsewhere. Hawke actually snuck out the bathroom window, so to speak.

I almost had a worldstate sort of like that (swapped my Hawkes at the last second)...but there's fault on both sides--protag and LI--luckily for me, I suppose.

Spoiler

So...all is not necessarily sunshine and fuzzy kittens, regardless of orientation. ;)

My other major/canon worldstate is just about as close to the sunshine and fuzzy kittens as I think I could possibly expect out of games like these:

Spoiler

I was actually pleasantly surprised at how sweet Morrigan's romance ended up being in DAI (and, not that I wouldn't recommend playing it if you haven't, but I don't think you actually need 'Witch Hunt' to make those decisions in the Keep). And, as others have said, Hawke seems to have done the leaving in this case but they didn't say they'd broken it off completely. I would be surprised if Solas is actually a 'bad guy,' though he does seem to have a pretty solid track record of making poor decisions that blow up in his face. So, perhaps it's not as dire as you'd thought? :)

I think Zevran if he was a LI travels with the Wardens. Other LI like Leliana and Morrigan do plan to be reuinted after they have done what they need to do. As for the DAII ones, hmmm maybe they plan to meet up later like Merril?

Firstly, even though Morrigan left at the end of DAO, hers is now probably the most long-term and happy romance option available. If you had the OGB and followed her into the Eluvian, your Warden actually gets to have a family.

Secondly, Merrill doesn't leave Hawke. None of the DA2 romances do. Hawke leaves them behind on this particular mission, for various reasons, but they're still in a relationship with him/her. They are there, waiting for when he returns.

As for Solas? Yeah, you're SOoL. But his was a tragic romance done well, IMO. Plus, there's always the possibility of DLC that might add more to his and Lavellan's story.

Well, it's realistic, innit?

Love is fleeting. ;)

As far as I could tell, everyone is still together. Still find it hilarious that Morrigan was the happiest of the DA:O romances, however. Never saw that coming. Though something tells me Gaider is crying tears of rage he had to cave and make that happy ending, lulz.

My guess is that you aren't talking to the characters enough.   Both Morrigan and Hawke have continued their romances just fine and they even tell you as much when you talk to them.

Just because they don't make a cameo appearance doesn't mean they broke off the relationship.

I watched Alistair die in front of my eyes. I was going to sacrifice myself for him but he had to mess it up, the sweet idiot. Then I had to endure everyone being happy at the victory celebration while I cried inside. Nobody seemed to care that I just lost my lover. My warden is forever traumatized and alone.

Then I made the grave mistake of hooking up with the elf with the colossal anger issues. I kept fantasizing about stabbing Fenris in his sleep so he'd stop being such an incorrectible *******...
Another traumatic Dragon Age experience.

Guess who I hooked up with next? Solas of course. Who turned Fenris passive aggressive too and made me develop similar resentment. But in the end I felt sorry for him and it was actually all my own fault. Solas said no repeatedly but my quizzy chose to ignore his protests and made them both unhappy. That's what you get for not respecting people's reasons.

So, no. I do not really feel your pain. Morrigan is alive and awesome. And Merrill is a nice person I wish I had romanced instead. You are still in a relationship with both. And well Solas... yeah, it sucks but you brought this on yourself.

(Not a serious response. It's quite funny what a disaster the Dragon Age romances are for me.)
