EDIT
After patiently reinstalling the game, and trying to use the spacebar to interact with the locker nothing happens... STILL. <_< I even tried changing the key bindings again. But after some googling around, I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only with this problem.
One possible solution:
someone named "SwordofSpectrum" on another forum suggested this but if it works... I haven't tried it yet -- will soon just to see... hope it does.

However, I'd like to see a patch if this persists for the unfortunate few such as myself and others because I'm really looking forward to playing Mass Effect 2. It's hard to enjoy if I can't even use a simple key to progress through the opening mission.

I have the same problem. I can work around it by pressing escape to open the menu, then closing the menu and hitting spacebar at EXACTLY THE RIGHT INSTANT, so the game isn't unplayable, but having to do this for almost EVERY door, crate, button and npc in the game is getting EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING! Other than that, I'm loving the game. Please fix this asap.
[gasp]
Even reading this is vexatious! And someone else suggested saving and reloading the game... my patience wears thin even just thinking about it;

I tried this method as well as saving, exiting, and reloading the game. Not working... for me anyway (it hasn't been my day). Still, I won't give up. Maybe, I'll get lucky. In the meantime... Need a patch, please. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]

However...it kinda sucks when you're all excited for a game and then are breaking your finger spamming your spacebar in hopes that little blue square will save your day! xD

I'd rather not wait a month or two for a patch.

Though has anyone found a way to work with the esc esc trick. The blue highleted target happens 1/100 times so it takes 15 mins to open a door at the minimum and for every other interaction and soemtimes doesn't show up at all.

It appears that everyone is having a similar issue pretty much. It's a fresh game so there's probably going to be a patch that can fix that, along with several other bugs....we can only hope. I don't believe it as anything to do with the hardware people are using because I've found it's a variety of different keyboards ect. It's the game itself, it's the only plausible explination. All we can do is prey and keep complaining until tech support fixes it for us.
I agree... I've had this laptop for over two years now and have played many games on it. The keyboard has never let me down so hardware ISN'T an issue, but the game itself particularly being able to interact (i.e. use). I haven't come up with a current work-around for myself but I do hope more people do complain about the issue so that tech support comes up with something. I don't mind waiting for a patch... so long as it just fixes the problem and that creates a more permanent solution!
