I just bought the game, installed it successful, even used my promo code and got the new DLCs... I've started a new game with an imported character -- works fine as far camera control and WASD movement goes but I'm still at the beginning of the game, where Miranda wakes you up and tells you to grab your armor and pistol from the locker. I can approach the locker fine but whenever I press spacebar to grab my pistol nothing happens -- I press spacebar multiple times, nothing happens. The second time I reload the game, I changed the key binding but again nothing happens.

Anyone got any good ideas to what's wrong? Otherwise, I just might have to try to reinstall the game to see if that works.

Just the one on my laptop... I've never had a problem with it.

I should also point out that the spacebar is typically the one key I hit at the main opening screen when it says "press any key to continue" and it works totally fine there.

EDIT

After patiently reinstalling the game, and trying to use the spacebar to interact with the locker nothing happens... STILL. <_< I even tried changing the key bindings again. But after some googling around, I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only with this problem.

One possible solution:
someone named "SwordofSpectrum" on another forum suggested this but if it works... I haven't tried it yet -- will soon just to see... hope it does.

However, I'd like to see a patch if this persists for the unfortunate few such as myself and others because I'm really looking forward to playing Mass Effect 2. It's hard to enjoy if I can't even use a simple key to progress through the opening mission. :?

Seconded, the hack minigame is impossible for me, I cannot select any code segment. Logitech G15 keyboard. [I had rebound spacebar and 'use', but the remapped 'use' button didn't work, and neither does spacebar when I reset to default keybinds...]

I've been having similar issues and most times I can get it working by saving, exiting to main menu and reloading, but it is most every door and object...

Yeah I am having the same problem. I downloaded all the promo codes I received and installed the game properly, but the space bar button will not work. This is upsetting me since I am still in the very beginning of the game.....I am starting to hate the pistol.

I have the same problem. I can work around it by pressing escape to open the menu, then closing the menu and hitting spacebar at EXACTLY THE RIGHT INSTANT, so the game isn't unplayable, but having to do this for almost EVERY door, crate, button and npc in the game is getting EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING! Other than that, I'm loving the game. Please fix this asap.

[gasp]
Even reading this is vexatious! And someone else suggested saving and reloading the game... my patience wears thin even just thinking about it; :pinched: however, I won't neglect any advice or help -- I really want to play the game. BUT I wouldn't consider this a permanent solution.

I, too, am having this issue. Thought it was connected to the armor power but I was incorrect. Seems to be a design glitch that needs a patch. Just have to wait for it.

I tried this method as well as saving, exiting, and reloading the game. Not working... for me anyway (it hasn't been my day). Still, I won't give up. Maybe, I'll get lucky. In the meantime... Need a patch, please. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]

Yeah I'm having this issue as well. I have a logitech keyboard...so wondering if that's a problem.

However...it kinda sucks when you're all excited for a game and then are breaking your finger spamming your spacebar in hopes that little blue square will save your day! xD

I had the same issue, for some reason playing in windowed mode at a lower resolution seems to work fine. Occasionally I have to escape to the menu and return to game, but it's been pretty rare so far.

It appears that everyone is having a similar issue pretty much. It's a fresh game so there's probably going to be a patch that can fix that, along with several other bugs....we can only hope. I don't believe it as anything to do with the hardware people are using because I've found it's a variety of different keyboards ect. It's the game itself, it's the only plausible explination. All we can do is prey and keep complaining until tech support fixes it for us.

Yeah switching to a lower res DOES help. Sadly, I can't stand playing that way *laughs* But I'm making do.

Same issue here with the hack mini game, though in my case the use key is bound to "E". Even after resetting to default it still fails to select the code. Running on an old trusty IBM branded PS2 keyboard which works OK in other parts of the game.

same for me. it works when you press escape and then press it again, the blue box will show up for a short ammount of time and then it lets you hit spacebar just fine. It is rather annoying though.

I'm having this issue and have posted on similar thread and created my own hopping for a solution. Right now I have to press escape then be quick about hitting the space bar.

I'd rather not wait a month or two for a patch.

I've got the same issue. Really quite frustrating as it's so far taken me about 2 hours to progress what should have been 10 minutes worth. For the first few doors/datapads/safes etc I managed to get it to work by going to the menu then exiting and hammering the 'use' key but now even that won't work.

Keyboard is just a basic OEM Acer model.

Same here, theres a couple threads already on this matter though.

Though has anyone found a way to work with the esc esc trick. The blue highleted target happens 1/100 times so it takes 15 mins to open a door at the minimum and for every other interaction and soemtimes doesn't show up at all.

I agree... I've had this laptop for over two years now and have played many games on it. The keyboard has never let me down so hardware ISN'T an issue, but the game itself particularly being able to interact (i.e. use). I haven't come up with a current work-around for myself but I do hope more people do complain about the issue so that tech support comes up with something. I don't mind waiting for a patch... so long as it just fixes the problem and that creates a more permanent solution!

Ditto on the issue. You're right, though, it was solved by downing the resolution to 800x600 (windowed mode). My computer doesn't run ME2 that well anyway without being able to lower the graphics...it's strange that we don't have that option in this game.
