Hi, well I recently bought the game too and the same problem happened to me halfway through the game so I looked online and found this chat forum...the advice was good but it didn't really solve the problem because I didn't want to downsize my graphics just so I could play - but I have found the solution!!! I know that this blog was written ages ago but if anyone still needs help with this when they buy the game all you have to do is go on to your EA account and go to the navigation bar at the top where it says stuff like Home, projects etc... go to Games and look at the dropdown list, hover on ME2 then click 'game patches' it is here that you should be able to find a patch for the game that will fix this problem. So there we are, if you are one of the many who have this problem I hope that I have been able to assist in making it better.

That GPU should have been adequate, but the usual CPUs with core speeds that slow are well below the minimum that this game requires, so the CPU was probably seriously bottlenecking the graphics card until it (card) could carry more of the load, at the reduced screen setting.Hanz_knife wrote...

In neither case, not the poor CPU here, nor the poor GPUs above, was the difference from pre-patch to post-patch a significant matter.

I'm having the same problem. Could someone with a bit of technical prowess please help me. With a low framerate using FRAPS of 6/7 fps. Ive also updated drivers, closed down running programs etc.
My system specs are:
HP Pavillion
Processor: Intel Core i5 duo core CPU, M 460, 2.53Ghz
Physical Memory: 4GB Ram
Display Adaptor/Video Processor: ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 VRAM: 512MB
Windows 7 64bit
From what I understand these are the minimum system requirements:
Minimum System Requirements
Processor: 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory: 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Video Card: 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support).
Supported Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater.
Hard Drive: 15 GB
OS: Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
DVD ROM: 1x Speed
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input: Keyboard / Mouse
Recommended System Requirements
Processor: 2.6+ GHz Core 2 Duo Intel or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or better recommended
Sound Card: 100% DirectX compatible sound card and drivers
DirectX: DirectX August 2008
OS: Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Maybe I've missed something but I just can't fathom why the games unplayable for me. I hit most of the specs, I've also seen youtube vids of people playing the game on Radeon 5470 and it looking good. Mine looks like a shooter made in 1991!!!
Any help or light on this would've MUCH appreciated!!!! Thank You. I'm desperate to play it.

A Radeon HD with any "470" number in its name is inadequate to run games at the level intended by the developers. The minimum for the purpose is a "570", and that is merely a Budget model, which is intended to handle games at their minimum levels.
YouTube isn't at all a useful reference source, however, you should be getting closer to 20 FPS than to 7, so you have problems beyond just the Low Quality graphics card.

I had a read of both of your links. Thank you Gorath, it's enlightened me. Much appreciated. I must say I'm still a little disappointed an i5 core and a 5470 couldn't play this game. I've played other recent games on the system. The minimum requirements suggested it would run, but would performance would suffer.
That's something I could have lived with, but it's COMPLETELY unplayable.
It's very poor on Bioware and EAs part. I was thinking about buying it for PS3, but out of prinipal I'll be giving it a miss!!! Even though I'm sure it's just as incredible as the first!
But thanks again for your help dude!

Since other gamers have been using very similar hardware and getting far better results (although still not to a standard that I personally would accept) than your own, you still need to determine where your system is falling down by comparison. This thread isn't a good choice for your purposes. You need your own personal message thread, and a standard, completed problem report.

Ok thanks Gorath. As you can probably tell after a PC gaming hiatus since 2001, I'm a bit new to gaming on a computer these days...so much as changed. I will do that. Thanks again for your assistance man....it's helped a lot.
