Is anyone having this problem with an ATI card?  I'm using an Nvidia card, and the few specific mentions I've seen are NVidia as well.  I don't see it as a graphics issue so much as a programming/logic issue.  It seems to me that if it were a matter of rendering the interaction key would still work even if you don't see it.

I've been running the game at minimum resolution in windows mode, and that alone is very frustrating since my screen resolution is 1680x1050.  I find myself with my face inches from the monitor just to see what's going on.

Is there a way to know when/if BioWare is even aware of this?

I have a strong feeling the problem is within the game's programming, and am beginning to doubt whether this issue has to do with graphics because people are getting through the game flawlessly with good specs from what I've seen on threads and then they just lose the ability to see the blue reticle and some point of the game.

I hope to God that BioWare is aware of this.

Are you saying you can't interact on your desktop but on your laptop you can?

Hey all,

On my computer all I have to do is press Esc to bring up the menu screen, the "Mission Computer". Then, Esc out of it back into the game and immediately press space while looking at the square. Anytime there is a recalcitrant square just do this move. To the menu and back and quickly press space.

Hope this works for you :)

EDIT I see some of you have discovered this as well.  I don't find it a hassle at all.  I did skip out to window mode and various resolutions initially and doing so improved things.  Updating my drivers helped as well and I can play fullscreen now with rarely any problems.  I have no issues executing the menu move quickly and under fire.  But of course I don't personally know how your computers are.

Lucky... <_< So envious of you now. And I'm still having troubles even with my current conditions and using that darn [esc] [esc] trick.

I am on the Horizon mission, I have just been confronted by some enemies and am trying to access some comm relay. I am able to access the Mini Game but my selection button ( originally space bar, now left shift ) will not select the "correct line of code" when i find it. I have tested this multiple times through the game, but now it has stopped me completely, i cannot hack anything in the game, and I cannot leave this planet without hacking the relay. It is not a hardware problem as the keys work all the rest of the time. and my computer has more than adequate processing power. I have re installed the game, tried windowing, and changing resolutions, I have tried 2 keyboards, as well as going back to previous game files, oh i have also tried defalut mapping, and restarting the game and trying hacking other items. I seem to have exhausted all of my own ideas and the ones in this thread and elsewhere i can find. Any ideas bioware?

Thank you

So, not even a single tester played (for let's say 20 min) with alternate keybindings ... I guess the forum moderators get some free beers from QA :)

This is so annoying as I only have 3 Fingers on my left hand, space is needed for backpedal. I Can't stand rebinding the keyboard every time I encounter a minigame.

BTW: Please show the active binding on the help-boxes ("Press [key] to Open XY / Pickp XY / Pull out your hair / etc") they are showing only the standard. This would make the second beer beer, this time from the programmers :)

I have this same problem as well. Even with 800x600 resolution, it still randomly won't allow me to interact with things sometimes. It also manifests itself in combat, not allowing me to target enemies sometimes.

I just wanted to put my name on this as also suffering these issues, but only when I'm in a resolution other than 800x600. Works fine in that resolution, but if I actually wanted my game to look good, its unplayable.

Hopefully there will be a very early patch release which fixes this.

Well I have to admit to being at a complete loss as my laptop runs it great and my desktop has this issue, which for the life of me I dont understand. My desktop is way more powerfull than my laptop.

800x600 did nothing for me... defaulted space bar back and nothing. I have to agree it would be nice if the menu dynamically updated the help menus with the set key-binding.

Have to admit though aside from this one issue, the game does run silky smooth and much more enjoyable then my first time play of ME1 on the Xbox360.

Running on:
Vista 64 SP2
Intel Q9450 @ 2.6 GHz
8 GB RAM
Nvidia 8800GTS 512MB (Driver Ver: 196.21)

I stick with my initial findings. It is true that a few people I know have not had the issue that this current thread addresses, however I have a friend with nearly the exact same specced laptop, he has never had said issue, and I have. It cannot be the laptop itself nor any hardware attached to the computer running the game. It's odd, however, that this problem is selective and only seems to target random people, despite the quality of their specs. It has to be an issue with the game itself I see no other option. Hopefully BioWare is working on something, I just wish they would make some sort of announcement, after all these are THEIR technical support threads...Odd that they aren't doing much SUPPORTING

Agree, agree, agree! I did post this thread originally believing it to be a hardware malfunction but it's NOT after realizing such; so I had updated my belief to thinking something is wrong with the game about a couple of days ago. I've been keeping up to date with the thread as much as I can with getting new advise as well as offering it. And I'm tired. Now... uh, BioWare...? Hello? Please, tell us something... been a tad too quiet.

Yeah! Bioware needs to get on this ASAP, and get a patch out yesterday, I mean really, with as many that are having this problem, you would think that they would already have figured out everything and sent out a patch, or at least an "oops srry, we will get right on that'...

Hello all,

Just wanted to add my voice to the frustration.

I am also stuck on Horizon since I can't hack the computer.

I have submitted a question to EA support 2 days ago and have not heard back from them yet.

It is insane that a control problem in one mini game has rendered ME2 completely unplayable for me. My only option now is to sit around and wait for a patch or a community work around.

Agreed. Even a "We don't quite know what this is, but we're working on it" is better than the utter silence of the last days. This bug is making the game nigh unplayable for what seem to be a number of players.

Please, Bioware. Let us at least know you're working on it. =)

EDIT: Should also add that 800x600 diminishes the problem for me, but it's still annoying.

Maybe it'd be worth renaming the thread to "Target Bar Bug", to be more specific and get Bioware's attention?

I cant believe how shoddy this release has been compared to Dragon Age. I never had any issues with that or believe it or not ME1. But I waited to play it as it was an admitted port. I dont know why Bioware says this isnt a Ported version. It seems to have all the standard ported issues. I also dont understand why they arent talking. Is EA (which to me is a huge problem) making them sit on there hands til they rake in enough cash or what??? With Dragon Age they had patches out a couple of days after release to fix bugs.

Hey again guys. After lots of 'testing' (read: playing nonstop) I've got an idea of what the problem is.

Maybe Bioware will be able to release a patch to reduce the issue, but it seems to be due to the graphics card overheating.

When I first played on max settings I couldn't select anything without going in and out of the menu and hoping to catch the blue square as it flashed by, but reducing it to 800*600 and taking all the extra shinies (motion blur, film grain, etc) offline it works fine for around 2 hours before the problem starts to appear again, although at a lesser degree for about an hour or so.

Checking around where my graphics card is located (working on a laptop here) and it's incredibly hot. Save, QQ and leave it to cool down for a bit, then it runs fine again. So I feel pretty confident to call it a graphics problem. Maybe a patch from Bioware could help to reduce the problem, but I don't think they'll be able to stop it completely.

Any of you guys using laptops, it might be an idea to get yourselves a cooler pad, desktop users should be able to find something to cool their graphics cards internally. I do hope that Bioware can find some way to work around this in a patch, but I suspect it's down to just keeping our hardware cool.
