So I am now permanently stuck in the Horizon Colony waiting to arm the towers. Until this bug is fixed in the game, you are not able to advance. I Have tried every work around and nothing works to make a selection in matching code mini game. The story has be enjoyable so far, but such a tedious little bug to stop the experience has been, well rather sour.

I still play at full res, full screen on my laptop with most other settings disabled. I just completed the game on normal last Thursday. It's unfortunate that for some the esc in and esc out of the menu then space bar spamming isn't working. I used to quick save and quick load before and that did the trick for me but the esc and spacebar spamming made the game playable and enjoyable despite its flaws.
Aside from the highlight issue, most of the time I can't use the charge skill because the oval reticule does not appear on the target and the status bar for enemy shield and armor appear briefly at best. In all honesty the bypass mini-game always drives me nuts...lol
Here's to hoping Bioware gets it's act together for ME3.

Kyrono have you tried the Esc - Space spam? (you know, go to main menu, get back in and press space fast and often)
Thanks and I did try it along with the other ideas posted, but still no luck. I feel a patch is the only answer.

It is incredibly frustrating and I have stopped playing the game. I cannot even get past the first 10 minutes of the game due to this issue.

I am pretty sure Bioware is ignoring this problem.
This thread has been going for 13 days and there are 137 replies to the topic. Also, there are multiple threads that address this problem one way or another. But maybe Bioware just missed some of the complaints about the problem.
The game is really good otherwise, but I get the sense that Bioware outsourced this problem to Flagship Studios.

Seems as if the only thing to do is to wait and pray for a patch to be released soon. Shame that such mistreatment of customers (not even acknowledging a problem that makes the game unplayable for a number of people) on the part of Bioware should tarnish an otherwise excellent reputation.
Please, Bioware. All I'm asking for is a "We're working on it.". That would at least give me some peace.

Here are the instructions:
Right-click on the Desktop and choose New and then Folder.
Insert the game disk into the drive.
Exit any autoplay screen that may appear.
Open My Computer.
Right-click on the CD-rom drive containing the disk and choose Open.
Click on Edit at the top of the window.
Click on Select All.
Click on Edit again.
Click on Copy.
Close the window.
Right-click on the New Folder on your desktop and choose Paste.
The game files will now copy.
When this is complete, remove all disks from any drives.
Open the New Folder.
Open the Setup folder.
Double-click on the Setup icon that looks like a computer.
The installation should now begin.
Gonna see if that helps.
They also said that not many, or not enough (by their count anyway) people had problems with this to warrant a quick fix, like with the Cerebus codes issue. They said that Bioware should get around to patching it eventually though. Just dunno when "Eventually" is.

Eventually I'd like to actually see the graphics this game is supposed to have, but at 800x600 it looks pretty unimpressive.

This had better not be an excuse to dismiss or ignore the problem. I don't mind waiting for a patch, so long as it does fix it, but when an actual patch will be released would be good to know -- a time period/guess of a date when we should be expecting one would be at least good.
This is really effecting our gameplay and if they truly cared about their customers, who are also fans, being satisfied with their products, they should acknowledge it and do something to at least alleviate our fussing and stressing over something so small yet cumbersome. Work-arounds have stopped working for me even at a very low resolution of 640x480 in windowed mode! So pretty please, BioWare, put your concerns around this as well. I really want to play ME2 on my PC as do others having this issue.
In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy myself on my PS3 with games that actually work.
