As a reaver...

Sword
346 dps - 281 aoe
11% arm pen
42 strength
And ofc abyss of doom chance on hit

OR

Axe
277 dps - 220 aoe
28% crit!
5% extra damage for each enemy within 8 meters

Now at first glance people may say Sulevin but that crit chance on dragon hunter.....damn that helps with rampage cool downs. Think I read somewhere even penguin prefers hunter axe.
And with the axe extra %damage they are not a million miles away in dps.

Opinions and/or maths comments welcome :)

I'm not 1337 enough for these... I use Slayer.

(I haven't received a lot of RNG love for 2h weapons)

Axe is better on the Reaver, Sulevin Blade is better on the Katari.

My reaver rarely needs rampage or barrier to survive threatening with the Sulevin Blade and ~ 20% healing on kill bonus. Keep in mind that you also have guaranteed crit from war horn, while dragon rage with abyss proc absolutely destroys everything.

Can't say about perilous though.

im pretty sure the axe will do a fair bit less damage, but the rampage cooldown would probably make it worth it to use over sulevine. I would love for somebody to mathcraft the damage/swing.

Blade's more fun on Reaver though. Swipe swipe suddenly everything explodes.

Assuming all other vanilla stats, Axe matches Sulevain for average damage when its passive accounts for about 8 targets. Armor penetration vs. "front loaded nature of crit damage boosting DPS" effect probably equal out.

So it mostly comes down to whenever you like vacuum or less downtime on rampage. Or if you promoted the rogue classes 52343243 million times, then Sulevain wins no contest imo.

You need at least 9 enemies within 8m to get to the damage of the Sulevine blade...  So it more comes down to if the other stats (e.g. crit chance) are worth it to your particular build.

Damage (not dps) adjusted by bonuses for strength, attack etc:

[WeaponDmg * (1 + CritDmg%) * (1 + FlankDmg%) * (1 + BarrierDmg%) * (1 + GuardDmg%) - Armor *(1 - ArmorPen%)] * (1 + Attk%) *AbilityMultiplier%

Sulevine = 329 (+ 11% armour pen adjustment)

Starfang = 301 (+ 11% armour pen)
Sundering = 287 (haft + pommel)
Mhemet’s War hammer = 282 (+7% guard dam)
Longbar Blade = 247 (grip + pommel)
Axe of the Dragon Hunter = 238 / 249 / 261 / 272 / 283 / etc  (+11.35/enemy , +28% crit chance)
Slayer = 239 (+7% crit chance)

Why BioWare guys thought such weapon would be a good idea.

So far (around 350k gold) only 2h unique I got was a lvl 8 sword, so I'm grateful I have the Slayer and the Sundering. They both dropped like a week ago on the same day, before there was  a painful Longbar Blade era.

I only prefer the dragon hunter because i dont have sulvian blade :D Sulivan blade is probably better on the katari but dragon hunter is significantly better on the reaver. The damage is roughly the same when you factor in critical hits anyway.

I can get 100% uptime on rampage providing there is enough enemies to melee. The crit chance is insane when utilizing flow of battle.

I don't have the Axe to try it but I looooove my Sulevin Blade. I don't even care about the crit chance on the Axe for my Reaver because I use the fear horn for auto crits on every mofo around me.

Not the right place to come out with this but one of my big dislikes on runs is having to chase down feared units. I like to get everyone into the same spot so I can AOE-damage them all. Thats why I love Sulevin on Katari, and if the proc hits at the right moment, you can kill 7-8 enemies with a few swings of the sword.

Definitely Sulevin blade preferred here, it's flat out just more fun with a great

soundscape associated with it.

I really don't like dying while rampage is active, so am a bit careful about it's use.

With a 10crit ring, plus unique cooldown neck, rampage is always up when I want

it for a pug threatening or coordinated group perilous.  The abyss proc occurs

multiple times per engagement (cc, plus sets up tight groupings for multiple aoe

crits), and the damage is high enough to make enemies disappear fast.

If you only care about having rampage up 100% of the time, then maybe,

the greataxe can be better for you.  But you'll be missing out on all that

great pull of the abyss audio!

For threatening the Sulvine is by far the best. It sucks up the group and finishes them quickly. Dragon hunter makes for chasing and much slower killing.
