Here's the official list:

Baldur's Gate 2

Dragon Age: Origins

Neverwinter Nights (not the campaign, the whole package and experience)

Jade Empire

Star Wars: KotoR

Mass Effect 2

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Baldur's Gate

Dragon Age 2

Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect1

So it's in the bottom half, but it's better than their outright stinkers.  And bear in mind that even their stinkers are way better than most other studios best games.  The weakest game on here, ME1, I'd still probably give a 7.0 out of 10.

From all of the replies it looks like generally Mass Effect series > Dragon Age series

Sci-fi is more popular in general. It's 'cause of Star Wars and Star Trek, which have been around for decades, allowing parents to influence their kids. With non-written fiction, fantasy only has LOTR and the Hobbit, and the books ruined people's ability to appreciate the movies. Mass Effect has been around longer, so it's garnered more popularity. Plus, western culture people seemed to have gotten excited over ME's graphics when it first came out, since most never played Final Fantasy and it was the only western game with good story-telling at the time.

Mass Effect 2 was apparently 10 times better than the original, which would've helped.

Actually, the main reason is 'cause "herp derp! gunz is awsum!" Just look at Call of Duty. Hugely popular, purely 'cause you get to shoot people. I think it technically counts as sci-fi, or at least as a war genre.

This is just my guess.

I Preferred ME1 over ME2 I never even got far in ME3 it was very bad to me..

I prefer Fantasy over Sci Fi but i think Sci Fi is easier to get done better..

sometimes i can't decide which series i like more.  i generally place DA over ME because i prefer fantasy games.  both had wonderful storylines and i was very invested in my characters as well as the companions/squadmates, but what ME has over DA (for me, anyway) are all those feels.  as much as i love DA, it never brought me close to tears or made my throat tighten because i knew i was about to lose a valuable friend (eg mordin, anderson, legion etc) and the citadel dlc (minus the evil clone thing) was genius.  i want DA to evoke the same emotions in me but at the same time, i don't want any of my companions to die >___<

I'm going to get torched for this here, but I have to put Mass Effect 3 at the top.  That game was a work of art.  I felt they really captured the gravity of galactic extinction and the enormity of trying to win against nearly impossible odds beautifully, and I had no real issues with them pulling a Kobayashi Maru for the ending, because I felt that it fit (didn't care for the Starchild though - could have done so much more with that particular section).  It is an ending I appreciated more and more on subsequent playthroughs.  Not all stories have a happy ending, and I realized about 2/3 through that my Shepard was probably going to die.

1. Mass Effect 3

2. KOTOR

3. DAI

4. ME2/DA2 (tied)

6. DAO

7. Baldur's Gate

With the exception of BG, I have thoroughly enjoyed each BioWare game I've owned, some more than others.  BG came out when I was in high school, and I hated it so much that I swore I'd never pick up an RPG again, much less one from BioWare.  I was gifted KOTOR for Christmas, and didn't touch an RPG from any studio again until DAO (had previously played the free demo).

I like the Mass Effect setting more, but Dragon Age has produced better games. Go figure.

*snip*

It's okay Epyon; ME3 is actually really high on my list too. That game was beautiful and well done in my opinion, and I'll even go so far to say that I approve of the ending. All your decisions, everything you do... all boils down to three choices. Probably closer to what would really happen in that situation; being Pro-Cerberus in ME2 shouldn't effect whether or not Destroy works, etc.

Anyway, here's my list:

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Mass Effect 3

Dragon Age: Origins

Mass Effect 2

NeverWinter Nights

Mass Effect 1

Dragon Age 2

SWTOR

Keep in mind; most of these are also my favorite games period. SWTOR being last doesn't mean I dislike it; I love it. I just love them all! xD

This exactly. The Dragon Age games are better made. I loved ME1. ME 2 was okay but with Shepard in it I was hoping for more of the crew members from the previous game to be there with her which is what failed that one for me ( although the suicide mission was one of my favorite missions of all, as was Lair of the Shadow Broker but not enough to rate the whole game higher ). ME 3 was fantastic - until the ending, argh not even going to go there.

The dragon age stories have been so much better done, as have the characters and romances over all ( Citadel DLC at least helped the romances for ME3 a little ). How can they get these so right for some games and so wrong for others is beyond me. If they had the smoothness of the character romances and development in the ME Series and the awesome quests it would far out do DA for me. If they stop killing my main character without giving me an option to keep them alive ( no, breath scene doesn't count ).

I greatly prefer science fiction over fantasy for the most part, and the former is usually a bit more relevant, hence its greater popularity. Despite this, I prefer Dragon Age to Mass Effect for a number of reasons that outweigh how much I value the genre. I have a greater level of freedom with my protagonist(s) throughout the series that Mass Effect simply does not permit, which is a big part of what makes these sorts of games fun.

People might have an easier time relating to Mass Effect. Or sci-fi could be more popular than fantasy. It's a bit odd to see since I generally prefer Dragon Age to Mass Effect, but it's not disconcerting to me.

Last in my book, simply because it is the only BW Game I didn´t care to finish. May change if I play it again in the future.

It ranks pretty low. Not even in my five favorites... which are: ME1, ME2, DAO, KOTOR, BG2.

Reached the end and my position remains as previously posted

10/10 Dragon Age:Origins

9/10 Star Wars:KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Dragon Age:Inquisition

8/10 Mass Effect 2

7/10 -

6/10 Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3

where 5/10 is merely okay but unremarkable -however, every Bioware game I've played is better that that.

Both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 had a big problem in the final choice was a bad one presented by a dislikeable character - though both had serious problems throughout the game.

as it should be the Mass Effect games were a lot better in my opinion

its hard to compare though since we played as one character throughout the three games

the level of attachment was a lot higher than DA for me I also thought the games were a lot more consistent sure ME1

was different than 2 and 3 but it still feels like one big game to me on trilogy replays

DA on the other hand can't decide what it wants, DA:O was a classic RPG with a voiceless protag, DA2 tried to be a poor man's Mass Effect and

DA:I a poor man's Skyrim (which I really hate)

Mine...

Mass Effect Trilogy (2, 3, 1. In that order.) Mainly because playing the first game is a chore for me. Despite the strange audio cut offs on the end of a sentence (at times, ps3) in 2, it's still my favorite.

KOTOR... never get sick of it. And I know Obsidian did KOTOR II, but with the story patch that someone did for it... might as well give it a shout out.

Dragon Age (2, Inquisition, Origins) I like the story in Origins better then the other two, obviously. But I've played it so many times, the combat is slower then how fast I want to move :P

SWTOR. I liked the class stories, but not the mmo aspect of it. It was a still a good game though, enjoyed it... even subbed for a while! But only because I was tempered by years of playing WoW.

Jade Empire. I liked it, but I want a sequel, dammit!

I haven't played Baldur's Gate, either one. Mostly because I tried to play, and my computer was like... 'lolno'. Then again, my husband still has the original disc versions and that's what I installed. So... maybe I'll buy them on Steam, or something.
