Seriously, can you put something in those chests that are useful. I'm not saying put tier 3 loot in there, but make it elf root or something you will use for sure.

I don't think there has been a single case of me opening them and saying, "Hey, I can really use that."

Maybe an inquisition perk could enhance these in some way.

Sometimes I find armour that's comically underlevelled but it has good upgrades attached to it. That sort of counts? :S

I figure they are actually red templar agents because they are clearly not sent to help me. I imagine i have all of them executed later.

I'd rather see resources like local metals or plant life. The stuff in that chest always goes to the next merchant I visit. I've never once used it.

Exactly, just a handful of local materials would be ten times better.

I think the problem is that they're just random treasure at whatever the area level is (I'm not sure how treasure scaling is handled).

So they have just as good a chance at having worthwhile loot as any other junk chest you find in the area. Which means you'll mostly find normal equipment, but it's still possible to get a schematic or rare item (and rarely some gold in addition to the loot)—but it's not necessarily going to be level appropriate for you.

Honestly, I wish they would just stop spawning after you loot the chest. (Though I guess you can exploit it by leaving an item in it.) It's annoying that they keep showing up with empty chests, long after I've forgotten how crappy the items were that they contained.

Yeah. I'd still rather have local resources like metals or what have you than the extremely random off chance of possibly a schematic or rare item. It would certainly be more useful the vast majority of the time.

Firstly - the contents of these chests should respawn. The fact that you can only loot the resources your Inquisition gathers for you once per map is ridiculous.

Secondly - agreed that local resources like ore, leather, cloth and herbs should be the contents.

I'd be happy if they actually had anything in them 90% of the time. Running around the Emerald Graves and not a single one of the Inquisition chests I've come across is actually lootable. It's not a case of them not respawning, I've litterally not been able to open a single one of the chests in that zone.

Had the same thing in the Hinterlands. And they all spawned close to each other in the same river bed. At the end, I had three groups of Inquisition soldiers with their feet wet, just a few yards apart, guarding an empty chest.  *headscratch*

One time in the Emerald Graves a pair of soldiers had buried the chest. I could see the outline of it with the search ping, but I couldn't loot it. :D

Items will sometimes get buried (there are several mineral deposits in the canyon in hissing wastes that were apparently put out of reach) or even lodged in the ceiling. The latter I like because I've had many time in the cave of parnasus where spider "ribs" get blasted into the roof of the cave.

I'd like to loot them once, at least. The other night, I came across one in the storm coast that was floating on the surface of a river. I couldn't interact with it.

One of my soldiers was walking around on the surface of the river too, which I assume was due to my divine proximity (I was after all standing right next to him). The other one was fully submerged - I think she might have drowned.

I think adding useful things that are in the environment, things specific to that environment, would be more beneficial. I enjoy seeing my troops there searching and greet me upon seeing me. Once, I did get a useful item, though: a blue item.

Nonetheless, adding specific random things from the environment that are useful to the type of character one is playing will be ideal; herbs or crafting materials better still and should always be a part of what is looted from that chest.

You're sure you've never looted a resource chest at the Storm Coast before? You can only loot one chest per map - not once per spawn point.

I'm quite certain I've looted a resource chest in the Storm Coast before. I justifiably (because Bioware) assumed the other separate and distinct chests I came across but couldn't loot were bugged.

I had no idea that this was the case. Is it ever stated? That's a silly way to do things if they're going to put more than one chest down.

The war table could give a continuing operation where you tell the soldiers in a region what to generally look for (like metals, herbs etc).  The RNG could generate loot in the chest based on that choice and what is available in the region.

I'm three playthroughs in and pretty certain that is indeed the case. It's ridiculous.
When I leave all the resource chests in a map unlooted, I can access any of them whenever they appear.

I've looted on the Storm Coast from those chests plans for Varrics Crossbow but majority is grey garbage and occasionally a plant, but I've found if I don't loot the chests and come back later I can't get into any of them in any map.

Scout:  Inquisitor!  We have supplies for you!

Inq:  Yeah?  Let's see what you got.

(Opens chest.  Sees an old iron dagger, some elf root, and some cotton.)

Inq: Oh.

Scout:  Did we do good?  Did we? Did we? Did we?

fionna__s_sparkly_eyes_by_shorttstuf17-d

Inq:  Er... Yeah... Sure.... Great... Great work there, team.

Scout:  YAAAAAAAY!

(Inquisitor tosses items in a river while the scout is distracted.)

It's not stated, but it's the way it works.

There are other encounters that spawn chests as well, and they are also single-use.

The encounter will repeat, but the chest can only be looted once (though I suspect you can exploit it by never looting the chests completely).

its even worse when you realise how useless your army is.

"Ok cullen send 2000 men to the Hinterlands surely whith those numbers we can gathet a vast amount of materiel."

2 hours later.

you have 1 elfroot and a bit of iron.

I would rather have those guys deliver stuff to me at Skyhold, instead of walking around with a huge chest, trying to find me.
