It's somewhat amusing that I'm taking time away from trying to farm fade touched ores and cloth to write this. I've been thinking about writing up a fairly long winded overly complex suggestion post then realized that I would likely cause the dev team to die of old age before they finish reading.
So to keep things fairly short and sweet.
Gathering:
Another poster had created a fairly large thread in these forums discussing how silly the Herald looks when the Herald is collecting materials. From a certain point of view I can understand story reasons and maybe even game mechanic reasons as to why the player has to do all of the resource gathering, but only to a point.
I really think some changes to the gathering mechanics would be useful for a future expansion or installment in the game, assuming we will be continuing our role as Inquisitor.
Suggestion: After the epilogue and Heaven, the Herald / Inquisitor should be able to just first time mine and mark the locations (Like we do for Quarry and Logging Sites) of all ore and herb nodes, and hunting grounds for certain types of animals. After that, it would be cool if the Inquisition picked up a Resource Collection Company. Give them, a back story, make them a rag tag group but please let them collect resources en masse for me.
I'd also like to suggest that the Inquisition's merchancs gain the ability to trade for specific cloths and rare materials, such as extra dragon related crafting materials, and extra rune related crafting materials for the Herald and the Inquisition at large.
I would also like to suggest that Dagna gain the ability to convert large quantities of excess resources into fade touched material.
In short:
Player maps the location of resources.
Npcs collect and trade for resources.
NPCs can also trade away excess resources for gold.
Both actions take time.
Crafting:
The crafting system in DAI is certainly a lot more improved than the previous games but there are still some issues in places. The biggest issue for me was the lack of freedom in terms of looks vs stats. I could look good, or I could have amazing stats, but I can't have both at the same time.
Suggestion: In addition to throwing loads of resources at Dagna to obtain extra fade touched items, I figure it would be a good idea if the Herald could throw resources at Harritt, the blacksmith and have Harritt use the resources you provide him to research new schematics for armor, weapons and modifications to armor and weapons.
In addition to unlocking all of the older schematics, Harritt could provide existing tier schematics with alterations to the crafting slots. Eg armor that might have a defensive slot might be changed to Utility. The idea being that the player has far greater choice in customizing their character both with stats and cosmetic appearance.
Additionally, Dagna and Harritt could also reverse engineer any unique looking piece of armor or weapons for the herald. It might destroy the original but open up options for more research and reuse some of the really awesome but not available for crafting, item artwork that exists in the game.
Note: each tier of resources is locked to the tier of schematics it can unlock. Meaning you use tier 1 resources to unlock tier 1 schematics and so on.
In short:
Throw resources at your blacksmith for random schematics. No more chest farming
Throw cool looking gear to your Arcanist and Blacksmith for more really cool looking schematics
