I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this..It's like ten different company's giving away the "game of the year" award. I thought game of the year was supposed come from a single companly or maybe a dozen at most. I read through all different company's giving this game of the year to this game. Some company's didn't even give it to this game they gave it to someone else. Yet when you look on Dragon Age homepage. It flashes the "game of the year" I just don't know which company we're supposed to believe.

In my opinion. It should be like when they give the actors awards. You have three company's no one really cares about and one big company giving the offical game of the year award. That award should come from votes of the fans not from editors.
When this game came out. I heard so many good reviews. The company's I never even heard of before. Each one acting like the offical source. From Indie to IGN. If you just google dragon age news. You find at least a dozen articles by different company's all saying something different what they liked and didn't like about the game. I guess diversty is good. I just didn't realize be that many company's commenting all at once. I guess EA all gave them the game a month in advance.

Maybe they are all being honest and just like different things?
DA:I is definitely my game of the year. I know that there are many people on here who would not agree with me. That doesn't make them right and me wrong it just means we have different tastes and/or expectations on what a GOTY should be.

Yeah but votes from the "fans" could be rigged by certain trolls or fanboy wars so that wouldn't work.

Last year only other game that could compete with it was Divinity Original sin , the story was amazing. It was like playing Baldur's gate again. Thats the kind of story telling i like. off the bat you talk to a giant clam and off the you feel consequences for your choices. You can either eat it/set it free or sell it. thats what was missing with DA I , in DA I it felt no matter what you choose to say it led you to the same conclusion.
Graphics wise DA I was amazing , 1st time dragon combat was amazing. I paused the game out of satisfaction. I prefered that dragon combat to my years of harcore raiding since in vannilla.

When Inquisition came out I was amazed by how little negative opinion was on the forum. Sure, there wasn't much praise either, but coming from here that's like we were declaring our undying love for Dragon Age Perfectquisition: Game of the Millennium. So I suspect most of us love the game, despite its flaws, as I do.
Six weeks later, now that we've thought of bad things to say about it (Inquisition makes DAII look like a god-tier game? Come ON), it's getting some more stick. We're notoriously critical here, with a reputation even in the gaming community at large.
I believe Dragon Age: Inquisition is the best AAA big-budget game of the year. It has masses of content; a great story (not BioWare's best ever, but great IMHO); a fun, decently tactical combat system; impressive mechanics; enormous replay value; grand scale and THE BEST characters BioWare has ever written. That's saying something, because I thought Mass Effect's cast was just about perfect.
Game of the Year is a flimsy award, because when comparing across genres and marking criteria it largely becomes a matter of preference. That said, I don't see how someone who was disappointed with DA2 or ME3 can be disappointed with Inquisition.

Apparently a lot of people love it. I'm not surprised since I visit forums outside the BSN.

wait what?! I had them down as mid tier at best, ceratinly not better than the Mass Effect or DA:O crews, in indeed some of the BG guys (yes I mean Viconia, Kagain, Shar-Teel, Korgan, Edwin...hell most of them.)

If DA:I worked right, it would easily be my pick for GOTY. But I don't personally think anything so loaded with bugs deserves the award.

EA pays for reviews and whatever else. That is why it wins so many awards.
I think you just accussed a company of a crime, just like that?

Well there's been a lot of such news in the last years. I don't think it's a big secred these days.

I know, but the GOTY is still framed as the best game to come out in a specific year. DS2 may not be as good as DS1, but DS1 didn't come out in 2014. Hearthstone may be that, but that doesn't stop it from being more accesible, a lot cheaper (you don't even need to spend real money on packs or the Naxrammas bit, just play and you'll get gold anyway to buy everything. I'll admit the Naxrammas part is a bit hidden, but if instead of going to the shop you go to it's section you can buy each wing for 700 gold each, which is about a week's worth of completing quests.) and a hell of a lot of fun on its own right.
What I'm saying is that as videogames that came out this year, I think those are better and more deserving of the GOTY than DAI just from the top of my head. I haven't played every single game that has come out this year, my opinion is the same as other people here. DAI is good, is in my top 10 this year, but there are simply other games that rank higher on the list, hence the examples.
Then your first paragraph seems to negate a lot of the complaints about why Dragon Age: Inquisition shouldn't win GOTY in this thread. For if DS2 shouldn't win because you shouldn't compare previous titles a complaint like "because of past BioWare games" or "if no games are good this year don't give an award" for that is taking the scope out of games released this year.
I think the problem with this year in general is there were too many niche games that aimed for a very targeted audience and that hurt GOTY awards because it didn't appeal to nearly as many people. Another reason is burnout on genres I think one of the things that hurt Shadow of Mordor is that it shares many elements with other games that people are tired of for I know I have little interest in the Arkham games or Assassin Creed games because I am tired of playing them. Yes the nemesis system is a nice addition, but other then that I found the game to be boring to play. It reminds me of when The Walking Dead got GOTY awards, I thought it was good for what it was, but it was missing something to make it a GOTY for me.

As far as graphics, plot, explorable area, characters, and general content go; I can see how DAI could win some GotY awards. Even the bonus multiplayer is more addicting than games that have been multiplayer focused for several releases (like Diablo III).
However, I personally would not give that kind of award to a game that has a lack of stability on PC platforms that should not have gone past Alpha, and that has such a plethora of bugs that generally shouldn't get past beta.
The content is exceptional, especially compared to only 2014 games, but the mechanism it is delivered on is really shouldn't have been sold in stores. Too many PC gamers are unable to play the game on high end gaming PCs, even though they paid good money for the game. So far there is an official response from EA that states that people should not overclock their GPU, and should use the recommended specs (specs which are specifically causing game freezes that make the game unplayable).
For me it's a controversial reward. Yeah they would deserve it if the game worked across most up to date PC platforms (or if it just wasn't sold for PC at all), but I don't think it's right to reward a majorly unfinished and bugged product.

is it a crime to offer the most expensive goody bag and only give them to people who give you good reviews? You have to work very hard to find a company that doesn't do that now. In any field it is why reviewers are starting to have to prove they aren't accepting this 'gifts' (and holidays studio visits etc) before I trust the review (for this reason I wont trust Angry JOe if and when he reviews Witcher 3, he has accepted studio visits.

It's worthy of GOTY. But if you only read opinions on BSN then you'd think Bioware delivered this generation's equivalent of E.T. from the Atari 2600.

I think we need a part of the forum called 'speculation' or something where griping doesn't fit. The constant complaining in every part of the forum is both depressing and undeserved. Sure, criticism is important, but there's no escaping it and it gives a very false impression of opinions outside this forum. I'd like to discuss the game without wading through quite so much of this. How is this thread productive?
