TW also started as ARPG and I wouldn't say TW2 was dumbed down if you compare it to TW1.

 

Witcher 1 had combat stances, attributes, more skills and deeper alchemy. I could link you to the Codex review if you like, which is a place who like hardcore RPG mechanics. They were not gentle with the Witcher 2 in their review.

Well maybe, been awhile since I played both. It didn't seem radically different to me though, although TW2 indeed had less stuff. And attributes were just additional ability trees in TW1 as far as I remember e. g. intelligence was basically a magic tree.
