Been taking a break from DAI (been playing Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, i love that series) after i finished my third playthrough, it's so painful playing on a ps3 in that it only allows 30 saves in total, which means i had to kill my first char to make space. So i haven't been following my topic, otherwise i would of replied sooner..
After following what Hazegurl recommended she just said she was going to go back to Orlais as first enchanter to organise The Circles which would of ended up getting dissolved since Leliana became Divine Victoria. I only thing to add was i had Empress Celene on the throne with Briala reunited and made Marquis of the Dales.
It might have been a dialogue added later when the first few pictures of Vivviene were leaked and some groups a players started raging because she was black and, from what I read about it when it first start, they thought a in Orlesian culture, there was no way for a black woman to get a high status in that time period (even though its not in our world
). It got to the point where people were already creating beta mods that changed her to a white woman before the game even came out... The funny thing is, that I have no idea where they got the idea from. Nowhere, at least as far as the games go, do they say anything degrading about skin color concerning humans. Sure, they call the races degrading things, but that's based on a species perception rather than color. Even Isabella's skin is never 'looked' upon in a manner that suggests her skin color makes her inferior when compared to someone who was not white. I'm just wondering where these players got the idea that skin color meant anything.
ANYWAY
However, this doesn't mean that there are not any of those characters that do make it important. I guess it could be a mirroring of real-life scenarios. Some people, simply don't see the color of a person skin as much as the actual person. Others do. Some cultures see your ethical heritage of higher importance than your individuality while others are opposite. I think in a way, this is also Bioware's way of saying that social conflict extends beyond species, but can work its way into gender, social class, sexual orientation, ethnic heritage etc. Like I said, a mirroring of our world.
I agree with you, skin colour in DA universe doesn't mean anything, so i didn't really care that Vivienne was black. (And Kudos to Bioware for putting her in game, personality and colour and all). When i first saw her i thought Bioware was trying to make her look like Neferneferuaten Nefertiti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nefertiti) especially when i found out she was bald/shaved her head. Nefertiti was bald (I think the ruling class shaved their heads so their royal hats fitted better), dark skin and supposedly very pretty/gorgeous. However that last part might be more 20th century cultural glamorising and stuff.
Yeah if anything Nationality and Non Human Race matter alot more. However as to what bioware intended with Vivienne being a mirror to social conflict (gender, social class, ethinicity, sexual orientation) in the real world, i would have to read the creators comments and notes before making an opinion, since i didn't see/notice that much with Vivenne. Vivienne was power and power begets more power. Plus she also had the character design core of superiority which was unchangeable by the player as Tevintersuprematist pointed out in an early post on this topic. So it was those things i noticed about Vivienne more than other parts.
So yeah, she just outplayed me big time and I didn't see it coming. Smacked me in the head like a deer on a road late at night with a Peterbilt barreling down on me.
Thought I was just being nice to some friends of hers that were related to her recently deceased lover. Now, after all the conversation options were exhausted, I fear I may have just helped make her Divine. Kinda wanna stick my horns through a door or something. Or... through her.
I think if you give her the proper heart, it gives her more divine points, well that is what i got from it. While giving her normal hearts means she doesn't get any points. Well that's what i took from that scene anyway.
Bioware denying you a chance to put Viv in her place isn't the same thing as not being able to beat Viv at her own game. It's basically the same thing as watching a cutscene that robs you of your agency.
I hate Viv who is basically the same insufferable, hypocritical character as the old lady from Kotor 2.
Kreia from Kotor 2 was interesting, i did like her at the time those many years ago and when i followed her instructions i ended up making myself a Grey Jedi unable to specialise since that was only for characters that have high light or dark. However thinking back on her now, she is probably an ingame version of that nut Ayn Rand. Wannabe Selfish hyprocitic, use people and **** em all type of person. So i doubt i will like Kreia as much as i did when i was younger. However i digress, back to Vivienne.
True it would of nice to have some agency to counter Vivienne's arguements but i think only Solas can do that it seems via party banter, so beating Vivienne's endgame was the only option i could think of and i didn't want to create a topic of disliking Vivienne or wanting betting dialogue with her since those topics i think have already been done.
