What are you going to do with slaves anyways? :D

Wait... don't answer that.

Blood sacrifices

While I don't think they should get rid of slaves if we visit Tevinter, I'm not sure if we should get to play as a Magister who owns slaves.

Blood sacrifices

Well, that's not very creative.

I expected pineapples.. and bleach. Or something.

If it did, I wonder how they would work in the race/class angle. The only way you could have a magister 'origin' story is if you were a human mage. Maybe an elf mage, at a push. I wonder what the other classes and races would be though.

You certainly wouldn't be a Dalish elf, since Dorian says the clans tend to stay away from Tevinter. So perhaps a slave? Dwarves would be interesting. Qunari would get all kinds of sh*t from the Tevinters, I imagine.

I would guess that a game set in the Imperium that offered race/class combinations would look like this:

* human warrior/rogue - noble born in a powerful mage family, but without the magic yourself; there could be a story about your lack of magic causing you to lose out on your birthright/favor with your family

* human mage - noble born mage in a powerful mage family; a story could be about you trying to rise in the Magisterium/fight the power in the Magisterium

* elf warrior/rogue - I can see a Spartacus style origin here where you go from slave to power because of your battle prowess and leadership skills

* elf mage - maybe a story similar to the Sith Inquisitor origin in SWTOR?

* dwarf warrior/rogue - Not sure what to do here?  I'd say lyrium smuggler, but that's awfully similar to the dwarf background in DA: I

* qunari warrior/rogue - Again, not really sure what do here?  Maybe something to do with the Tevinter/Qunari battle in Seheron?

* qunari mage - maybe an escaped sarebaas?  Rather than submitting to your fate, you flee and that puts you in Tevinter? (although why you'd go there, I'm not sure; maybe fleeing from the qunari via Seheron?)

These are good ideas. I always pictured an elf origin in Tevinter being an Antivan slave. Think less Spartacus more Gladiator. As for Qunari, go straight up POW. Dwarves have embassies in Tevinter and is Tevinter's lyrium lifeline. Dwarves are recognized citizens of the Imperium.

I don't want Tevinter, Seheron or Par Vollen. Playing in those regions can easily limit race selection like Dragon Age 2

Yawn. Ooo lets free the slaves because its immoral. Booooo! Op, you suck. Ever heard of politics. Wouldn't surprise me if you follow the Qun. Then again all followers of the Qun are slaves.

I doubt DA4 would all anyone to play as a power hungry slave owning magister, PC's generally ain't allowed to be truly evil anymore, they're just a "pragmatic anti-hero" at best now :?

Meh, I don't see why not, it's not like they'd be treated much differently than servants. Soldiers. Background npcs you can't really interact with like in Skyhold.

That's interesting.  POW qunari is a great origin.  So is dwarf ambassador.  Both would be stories that we've never really seen in the DA series before (for the protagonist, at least).

If its like that then I don't really mind. So long as it doesn't turn into "hurr hurr rape slave" button.

Because I'm sure there are some people who would enjoy an option like that.

I can see rockstar doing something like that. Not really, but if anyone did, it'd be them.

But Bioware? HA! I'd sooner expect to see Griffon mounts, or confirmation the maker is real. Not that I need confirmation, it's rather obvious he does in some capacity or another.

Indeed. I'm indifferent to the slaves thing, as long as they're there if we go to Tevinter.

I personally think the kingdoms of man should fall and the empire of the elves re-imagined. Not elves that are smug and destitute, but strong and ethereal. Necessary, in the face of true evil. No rifts.... tears... If men want to reclaim they must find their core. Fight tooth and nail out of a dark age to redefine themselves. Dwarves should rediscover the magic in the stone they live with but ignore as a whole. I picture a dwarven  complexity that doesn't exist. A re-opening of the roads. Shuffle it up... time for a big one. An elf that isn't a Che revolutionary but a being of immense power. I guess I like the realm of fantasy not running with an expectant cliché.

Go big or go home, I see bioware up to the task. They've inspired me to write let's do this!

It will be a cold day in hell before I see the elves being rulers of an empire.

I highly doubt that putting a player in the shoes of slave-owner would sell many copies. Audience is very touchy on this subject, and for the right reasons.

The fact that the Sith warrior class (who owns a slave in her/his story)  in SWTOR is very popular disprove your claim.

@Rob... if you want to win big you have to start from the bottom. Men can't be on top and end up on top... There's too little story there. A game where they hit rock bottom pulls life into a series. Maybe elves coming up means tevinter gets rolled... then in a follow up all the kinddoms of man find a common ground or even a savior in the maker's name. The dawn of a new age is what the series needs.
