ok so I get a computer can never be as good as a human player but it really starts to get on my nerves how much I constantly am correcting the Ai in combat, if we could queue abilities like in previous DA games it would really smooth things alot.
for example Ai dagger rogues especially who are always standing infront of mobs with the tank and getting hit and not flanking.
the computer seems ok with range characters like mages/archers but melee characters it just doesn't seem to know if it's attacking or running away half the time and likes to ignore my "hold" position orders and change targets to what i've told it to attack.
i agree, Ai does need fix or make tactics menu like in DAO & DA2, both had similar tactics menu, but even range damage dealers don't respond so well, if enemy comes attack them they do nothing, they continue attacking their target until they lost half of their HP & then they either try to get distance between them & enemy or use fade step if they have, well then Ai does need little fix to even if they change tactics menu
Set flankers to guard the tank of your party, not follow you. Let them use all of their stamina, and set parry (take parry for ai always) flank attack and stealth to preferred. I havent tried evade with the ai yet, but this alone pretty much sets the ai dagger up nice and neat
The guard tank option will set him to flank attack anything that is already attacking your tank. This prevents him from picking a random target and getting into a slugfest.the ai will actively move to flank.

good advice, but there still few glitches with Ai & Tactics, i have played/Finished 4 chars & i have manged, but that does not mean i'm happy with this glitches
Agree, OP. The AI, along with the keyboard/mouse UI are the two (could almost say only) biggest issues I have with the game. I managed to get myself to a point where they were working, kind of, but it is not intuitive in the way Origins and particularly DA2's tactics were.
It wouldn't need a whole lot more to be "good enough", just a way to say to ranged characters, "stay ranged". Far too often they come running in from the beautiful vantage point I have for them and get messed up.
As far as AI rogues, that I'll give you. But the hold command can work quite well
NOW WITH VIDEO
sorry about the low res and the slowdown, I haven't upgraded my video card in years so I run the game at only like 40 fps even without anything running, fraps hogged up what little wiggle room I had hence half to record at half resolution and still getting a fair bit of slow down, either way it isn't pretty but it serves the purpose.
Los and tac cam testing
my tactics settings in action
There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there about how the hold command works and how the follow behavior works as well. I've been testing this for a while tonight and have come to some conclusions.
1. The hold command is NOT overridden by AI behaviors like follow/defend.
2. Hold commands issued in tac cam are NOT overridden by switching back to action cam.
3. Hold commands are NOT overridden by line of sight
I tested all of these things by double click moving (which makes them hold once they get to where you moved them) Sera and Dorian behind a wall where I knew they would lose line of sight in tactical cam while having both of their behaviors set to follow the PC and then switching to action cam and engaging a group of enemies. Both of them stayed where I had placed them. I further tested it by engaging the entire group to begin the fight, then double click moving them both out of los in the middle of combat and again they stayed where they were. They even tried attacking without los as I was able to see Dorian cast a few lightning cages and Sera consume a few flasks off in the corner where they couldn't actually fight.
4. The hold command will be overridden if ANY other COMMAND is issued.
And I do mean ANY other command. Attack my target? Kiss your hold goodbye. Manually cast lightning cage on your ranged buddy? Kiss your hold goodbye. Hold will only really work if you've properly set up your tactics so that you don't have to micro-manage that lightning cage to begin with.
Conclusion, if you want to make use of the hold command in order to not have to micro-manage, then you need to STOP MICRO-MANAGING and it will actually work. And the beauty is with the right follow instructions and tactics you shouldn't need to micromanage them any way.
