Okay so is the only difference between an AOE weapon and a "normal" weapon, that AOE does damage to an entire area and the normal just to one enemy. Does AOE weapons therefore suffer any disadvantages such as decreased damage to a specific enemy?

Thanks for any answers! :)

I think there is a limitation if you for example shoot an arrow into a crowd.

If some of the creatures are imune to your fire damage (rune) it will not harm them. But in general your AOE damage should affect all enemies in the area.

I think, in general, the Non-AoE weapons have a higher damage per hit than the AoE weapons.  IE: An AoE weapon would do 101 damage per hit, a single target weapon of the same tier would do 119 damage per hit.  This means that when using attack abilities (that all scale with weapon damage) those abilities will hit harder.

I wonder if there's really that much of a benefit to AoE. Most times you're only fighting 3-4 enemies at once, and that includes archers and mages who won't conveniently ball up for you.

My personal experience is that If you deal with a group of demons, wolves (or whatever) your damage is much higher than a single shot.

I can't say what damage multiplier my bow uses, but it certainly works. I couldn't have drained so much health with higher damage single shots during the same time period. You can take that to the bank, as they say.

I don't know how things work for other weapons and abilities. I can only refer to the 'Explosive Shot' I constantly use with my bow.

The short answer is no. There isnt a disadvantage.

The long answer is it depends.
aoe could means more agro which might not be desirable to some.
sometimes non aoe weaoons do less damage, the mauls for twohanders tend to do a little bit more damage per hit, but this is only on a case by case basis. Dual blades for example dont seem to have any disadvantage besides the animation change which some may not like.

Okay thanks. I just wondered because I have a like really good AOE weapon but I have another normal which is almost as good.

Thanks for the answers!
