I wish that you could revise the color scheme on the armor to not be dependent on what crafting materials you're using. I want to use dragon webbing... I just don't want to have to look at that orange color.

I am sure I cannot be the only person on these forums (regardless of what class you play as) that wishes the color of their preferred armor wasn't decided based on the type of crafting material they use.

Agreed, though i want that webbing colour for the cloth part on the warrior armour. I hope they let us choose our colour scheme, cause sure nevaritte might have excellent stats i refuse to wear pink.

Dragon Webbing is not the worst. Ever made an armor out of plaid weave?

It's so bad that my mage is wearing armor that isn't optimized, because I cannot stand the color of the material that would be better.

Why are all the armors you can loot from chests or enemies made with the WORST color schemes ever?!

Oh god! The plaidweave is just...a disaster. I cringed just looking at the preview of it on my Mage. He mind as well be the Court Jester wearing that kind of pattern.

Why couldn't they just implement dyes or something? Like a Dye shop, or hunt for the materials required to make that color? There are some colors I like, but I can't use because I don't have the required amount, so I'm forced to use an ugly one. Or that Dragon webbing. Great armor, not so great color. :S

Plaidweave, Dawnstone, & Dragon Scales.

All you'll ever need.

I agree.  It was a poor choice to link the color to the armor value piece for the armor.  They should have had a separate place for the color only.

It's realistic. The problem is the scheme not the idea.

Make Solas a Plaidweave Battlemage Coat and top it with a Seer Cowl - really ups his sex appeal. ;)

What also bothers me is the armor changing colors depending on where you are. My Inquisitor's coat is denim Blue in Emprise du Lion, and a nice Brown in Crestwood. It's also Blue in The Hissing Wastes, so it's not just the snow...

I understand your point and respect your opinion, but I tend to disagree fundamentally with the "it's realistic" argument. I am playing a game with dragons, elves, dwarfs, and qunari. Realism isn't what I'm here for.

I think most gamers that play RPGs really enjoy the customization aspect of their characters. By tying the color of your gear to what material you craft with, you hamstring the gamer into having to choose between visual preference and in-game performance.

I think the vast majority would agree that we'd much rather have more customization options and pick what material effects and what color we use over realism.

You can override parts of the color with the masterwork slot, although that's not entirely helpful either. I selected materials for a silver heavy armor and the masterwork material would have changed it to pink...

I think realism varies. In actual reality, the materials wouldn't give anywhere near the range you see (especially leather). But it's a good (fake) realism.

I'm all for, say, having a system of dyes that lets you change colour. But I like materials "feeling" real by being tied to a colour scheme.

I think a dye system is a good solution to this problem as well and based on the posts others seem to agree with you.

Example: Superior Battlemage Armor with Dragon Webbing = orange... I go out and collect resources or purchase a dark green dye from a vendor and boom... I dye that orange to a more preferable hunter green (or insert your color of choice here).

I still get the max protection of crafting with dragon based materials but I'm not forced to endure a color that makes my inquisitor look... well.. silly IMHO.

For all the Plaid Weave lovers and haters. And of course for the lulz:

You know, Blackwall and Iron Bull have some banter that relates to this. Not spoilering this since it doesn't reveal anything earth shattering.

Iron Bull: Hey Blackwall. What would your ideal blade be forged from?
Blackwall: Well, many famous Warden blades were made from Silverite. It seems to work well on Darkspawn.
Blackwall: And you? Clearly a man who enjoys a good blade. Bloodstone, perhaps?
Iron Bull: Nah, Bloodstone's great at holding an edge, but that sharpness leads to brittle.
Iron Bull: You may not have noticed, but I'm not a finesse fighter. I guess I'd go with Dawnstone.
Blackwall: Dawnstone? That's even more brittle than Bloodstone.
Iron Bull: Yes. Really damn pretty, though.
Blackwall: It's pink.
Iron Bull: It's PRETTY.

Hopefully a BioWare staffer might catch a glimpse of this thread and if enough people in unison voice their opinion for a dye system or some form of customization when it comes to colors on armor and weapons... we might be able to get some input on if change is possible in the future.  :)

I like plaidweave but then again I have an outfit appropriately (or inappropriately) named Flying Fruitcake for Dorian.

I just feel they should be able to take decade old NWN armor crafting style and implement it here. I don't see the problem with all the useless face combinations

Thanks for all the replies to this topic. It's nice to see that I am not the only one that wishes there was some sort of dye system (or something like it) in place to edit the colors of our armor.

I thought it was pretty creative that the armour changes with the different materials, but with alot of aspects in the game it feels like they came up with an idea an just ran with it almost rushed? Didn't take into consideration the types of players that enjoy the little things like colours of armour.

P.s.  The dye pack idea would have been great even as a stack..

P.S.S.  I personally don't want to be running around DAI with bright pink armour or bright yellow that looks like the 60's ambushed the game

I usually run as a mage and I like mage armor that stacks my mage relevant stats. So Draggon Webbing for example is an important one for me.

Dragon Webbing produces this (IMHO) hideous orange color that hurts my eyes to look at. It I want a better color, I have to sacrifice stats. That is why a dye system would be awesome!
