After checking up the dragon age wiki (wikia) in order to know when my -a bit ruined, but otherwise magnificent- fortress would be fully upgraded, I went out of it once to activate the first phase of the reconstruction, then completed one of the main quests for the second (the only ones the wiki mentions). Now it seems to be mostly repaired....well, except for the quarters' access (even the scaffolding remains), a hole in the mage's tower, and that absolutely lovely big hole and rubble in the war room's access.

My question is...as I progress thou the game a bit more, will those get fixed, too? Or it's Bioware's idea of 'charm' to have an impressive cheddar fortress?

(Please, no more spoilers than necessary, thanks).

Sorry if that has been already asked, but I haven't finished the game yet, and I don't want spoilers. I don't want even to look on Google...

Well, from what I remember, all those things get fixed automatically as you progress in the game. At the end of the game all will be nice and clean and without holes

Nope, in my experience there will always be holes.

Sorry but no. Those holes will always be there. The upgrades you do are merely aesthetic and there are only 3. If you go around the castle there are lots of empty rooms falling apart and places with cobwebs that never go away. It amazes me that you have hundreds of people at your disposal and no one could clean up the rubble in front of the war room and it's just there for the entire game. Basically you have this huge castle and little customization.

Like the others said, no. What gets me is the hole that leads up to the Inquisitor's room, talk about a security risk. X) There are notes around Skyhold that explain some of the challenges they have in rebuilding, but the level of disrepair it remains in is still a bit surprising. I'm not unhappy with it really, though I wonder if Skyhold customization will be expanded in DLC.

That said, be careful as you are IN the spoilers section. Spoilers are everywhere!

You see that big hole in wall/roof along with rubble in the hallway to the war table? Yeah that always gonna be there no matter what you do and i've beat the game 3 times already, around 60 hours on the 1st, cant remember the 2nd or 3rd(dont really care). It seems like bioware just gave up on Skyhold during development, especially since they touted for months that Skyhold is your highly customizable personal fortress.

By the end of the game(or quite b4) you establish a huge private army and have power than can influence nations, but for some reason you cant fix a stupid hole in a wall. Whatever.

The rubble on the floor in front of the warroom is left there by my order to keep the me-The Inquisitor sharp and attentive. If I´m no longer able to jump over obstacles I´m senile and don´t deserve to rule the Inquisition anymore.

Same goes for the way to my personal bedroom.

It has a nice side-effect:

Tree assasins already broke their necks on the way to my splendid apertments.

Those tree killers are even more dangerous than the Antivan Crows.

There are a couple of big changes you'll notice after getting SKyhold, the majority of the repairs and such. Then you'll eventually be able to decorate the main hall with a style of your choice and upgrade certain bits of Skyhold with either aesthetic or functional improvements.

Yeah, the main hall is where it's at, and it's pretty cool, actually. I loved the Andrastian throne and all the Chantry statues.

Still playing and, nope, that stuff isn't getting fixed even if you claim umpteen quarries and log stands like I have. From what I can tell, the only thing that gets fixed is the main hall and a few guest bedrooms. There will always be sick people laying on the ground by the tents in the lower courtyard. And the sparring arena is always a small circle surrounded by a rinky dink fence that you could build irl by yourself in one weekend.

I went down to the crypt where the smaller library was after seeing some of the initial upgrades. Thought there would be a difference down there, but nope. There are still massive cobwebs there and in the passageway to the war room. I couldn't believe it. Alright, fine, I have to live with the gaping holes in the castle. These things take time to rebuild irl. But all the people I have in skyhold and not a single one could take a swiffer to the cobwebs? Heck, give my inquisitor the tools and she'd spruce up herself. If the inquisitor can go on silly little fetch missions for random strangers, then why would she mind fixing her own castle?

The lack of real and meaningful upgrades to Skyhold is probably my biggest gripe about the game thus far. It doesn't have to be the Sims but if you're going to give us a huge castle, why not let us have fun with it? All the talk about the Inquisition being this mighty new power and its BoO has literal holes in it.

No seriosly, some things in Skyhold seem to be left for later: The library, the tower with your room, the dungeons. It´s also strange that your character wonders what the different rooms were used for once and what he/she could do with them.

I'm hoping for a DLC dealing with Skyhold's past, present, and future.  Perhaps as to why it was abandoned at least twice, and why there in the first place.  Hopefully that will give us the chance to complete repairs.

Just as I imagined... :P

It seems Bioware has an incredible talent for stories and characters, but either they care the slightest for small details, or have the most lazy-*** betatesters out there (having in mind how people continuously magically vanish in the game, that's a most probable option, too).

If I were in charge of them I'd have fired them a long time ago, because I just don't get it. Don't they ever make a final playthought of their latest RC of their games or DLC's? How can't they catch those completely obvious bugs or oversights? Is there a programmer here, or a betatester that could explain that?

Ah, don't bother. I'm not even sure I want to know. Well, anyway, thanks for the answers to everyone.

With the amount of unused quarries and logging stands in the game I get the impression originally there might have been more upgrades to Skyhold, but maybe they were cut for time reasons?

It's a shame, the place would look so much nicer without all those holes, empty towers, and cobwebs.

I believe that some of Skyhold's disrepair and unused space can be attributed to content cut for time or resources, and some was always planned to ship unused so they had space for future DLC.

My problem with Skyhold is that aside from simply being the base of operations where all the Inquisition's forces are held it doesn't serve another function at all, when it could've been used for, oh I don't know: i.e. A meeting ground or even a ball as a way to make negotiations with other factions, or a place where you'd get to fend off an enemy force at least once in the game.

The fact that Skyhold is never threatened after you build it up is such a wasted potential.

Also, how the hell do people from the outside enter Skyhold??? All I see is a bridge leading to a gate leading to a rockslide. Is there an elevator or some long ass ladder everyone has to climb every time they need to leave Skyhold for another region? In DA:O Bioware knew it needed to be believable travelling long distances from country to country in Ferelden, so they simulated time skipping or symbolized it with the inky food prints across the map. Inquisition doesn't give a crap that Val Royeaux is in a whole nother continent. How long is the total time span in this game exactly?? 1 year? 2? 4!?

Also, how is Skyhold lush on the inside when it's in the same height as the surrounding mountains which are all completely covered in snow?

It seems that the Rule of Cool is an ever increasing trend in Bioware games.

~Maaagic. The funny thing is they could very well use that excuse since I believe Morrigan says that there's magic seeped into the stone of Skyhold. It's truly a wonder those magical walls don't repair themselves

I'm so glad there is none of that bloody foot prints in DAI, it was very tedious to wait for it make it course, I was constantly wishing there was a skip button for it.

The lush is explained in one of the codexes, btw.

There will always be holes, like that hole to the war room. Probably need to keep some of the holes to keep weaknesses in the infrastructure when it gets blown up in a dlc...

I repaired something like a templar tower, hospital, and herb garden, than my inquisitor's instructors vanished, I got all their quest stuff, making their quests complete via the requistion table, but what did I do wrong?

I love the way I can bellyflop off of the highest tower without taking any damage, but I do that without a horse anywhere else, and its a respawn.

The castle is an eyesore, save my andraste throne which looks all shiny. What the hell is the undercroft for? Taking up additional load times unlike any fort? I hate the place because I spend most of my time running around, to then run back to the war room. It is not quicker to use the fast travel there at all. Then you take somebody to your bedroom and Oh crap its another load screen...

Textures always take additional time to load upon entry of skyhold, loading after the load screen to the point of slow mo, sometimes they freeze causing another load. Although the date choice of the diplomat tends to speak in fastforward.

Where are the cells, because I really want to taunt the prisoners, inquistion and all that?

Outside, in the courtyard, just as you walk down the stairs that go to the throne room, you'll see a door on your right. That leads to the dungeons.
