I am torn between cassandra and leliana(would be softened leliana) as the next divine.

To begin, Vivienne is out of question because she's not my cup of tea, and I believe things need to change, not be restored back to what they were.

I almost want to choose cassandra, because I do believe in having a circle, and that magic needs some sort of oversight. However, cassandra just doesn't seem like a good fit for the divine. She detests politics( you see this if you bring her to the winter palace mission), she has no background in the game, and lastly seems to rash to have such a responsibility.

Leliana on the other hand, I also am not fond of being the next divine. One, I don't believe in absolute freedom of mages, I believe that's a slippery slope, and one that could lead to serious conquesnces. Let alone most of the stories you gather in codex or reading the various books, show that mages are often better off in the circle than in the real world, because people fear magic and mages in general( for good reasons). However, she wood be a good a divine in the sense, she loves politics and is as good in "the game" as anyone else. Also she has been running/ruling a huge spy network, which speaks on her ability to govern.

I was wondering what yours guys opinions were, and who should be the next divine?
As a note, I am romancing Josephine so I don't care about cassandra becoming divine because I am not romancing her.

From your priorities it sounds like you should plump for cassandra.
I prefer hardened leliana personally though.

I have a feeling Cass would be great partially because she'd despise the political bullshit. She's not gonna get caught up in all that, she's gonna focus on what's right.

Though I think Vivienne may be a better option than you think, because while she is conservative, she is also a Mage. Just a great precedent

I would love to pick Leliana, as I think she's the best of three for the job and she is one of my favorite characters in the series. However, (DRAGON AGE ASUNDER SPOLIERS), at the end of the book I can't stand any of the mages who seem pro rebellion, especially Adrian and Fiona. I think they have taken the wrong path in violence. As it wiill only separate themselves more and more from the rest of world. It's hard I would pick leliana in a heartbeat, if I didn't fear she would destroy the circles completely and key the mages run freely. As much as it saddens me to say that, magic is to dangerous to be left unchecked.

Yeah I don't know about vivienne, she is to consumed by her own agenda.. Just way to close minded, and I think that's dangerous considering the power she would be wielding. It seems like the moment you meet her, she is only interested in the inquisition because of the notoriety and power it will bring her in the future.

Then pick Cass. There is no other choice, my dear.

Cassandra is the only one suitable for what you are looking for. And she does it better than the rest, but after she has stabbed a lot of books and punched people in the face.

Yes I see what you're saying. I should probably pick Cassandra. But at the same time.. It feels like I'm wasting Cassandra by making her divine. She could do so much by rebuilding the seekers, and being out in the world than she could do behind the sunburst throne.
....................................................ASUNDER SPOILERS BELLOW.........................................................

The three of them are poor choices
if only Wynne was alive, I would love to make her divine.

Indeed, and I don't consider her the best choice, but I actually think Vivienne DOES care about the plight of mages.  She recognizes the need of templars but considers them a tool.  Imagine a mage with that attitude reforming the Circles.

She's not the greatest person, but she has first hand experience of what it's like to be a mage, considers Circles necessary but in need of a little reform, and seems to care about protecting the common people and her mages (perhaps motivated by selfishness but still).

I wouldn't write her off, is all.  Though I do think Cassandra is the best choice.  Also she can totally rebuild the Seekers if she's Divine; in fact she has more power to do so.

So what are your reasons for thinking cassandra is better than leliana? Not that I disagree, just curious.

Personally I think Cassandra is by far and away the most reasonable candidate, a perfect middle ground between Vivienne and Leliana. I also trust her more with the role; she doesn't want it, per se, she goes for it out of a sense of duty. She's going to do what's right.

Have you seen Cassandra's Divine image? She's not wearing a red hat and robe slogging through paper work, she's decked out in full armor and brandishing a sword. She's the badarse warrior Divine of the bunch, doubt she's going to be anything like her predecessors in that regard.

Cassandra unlike leliana she have vast knowledge about mages and knows how dangerous they are when leliana have hardly any knowledge about magic.

No I didnt .

But from the way she talk and after doing that seeker quest.......

I didnt even choose for her..I let her decide her own Path . And Leliana would be better as the Divine....for this quest seem to be coming since DAO .

while cass spoke of seeking what the maker had for her so unknown...thats why I would feel bad tieying her down to being a Divine when deep down she doesnt know whats her true Path .

And as ya can see it isnt who is best for the job for me , but who has been modeled best by events for this Job . While cass could be good and badass...I just see her better as the head of the Seeker then a Divine .

I worry she's too middle ground, I always wondered would anything change until one side won? I mean it seems like the templars want it one way mostly and now the mages want it another way, can either of them find a common middle ground?

I agree, I thought this was the story meant for leliana, to become the divine one day. I just worry, with her allowing mages complete freedom that could spell disaster, especially since I think the upcoming game theme going to be unlocking the mysterys of the fade/ancient tevinter and elven magic. The last thing we need is a bunch of mages running around when crap is going down with the fade.

Each to their own, then, Leliana as Victoria just feels wrong to me.

I just feel like the best ending for her is to 'lay down her burdens' like Justinia's posthumous letter said, rather than just go and pick up even more. Meanwhile, Cassandra rising up as the leader of the Chantry just clicks for me.

well I would agree with that..if we had a better choice . I feel the same way toward cass...

So if we let both cass and leliana lay down their burden and go have their life...

Who is left ?

Vivi...

Anddd that never gonna happen . No way

Cass seems like the divine who will need the most help in the future. She prefers direct approaches and no belief in politics so she will likely have trouble if a sublte approach is chosen. Leliana and Vivienne are adept at politics so they have a better chance of not needing help.

Viv could be a great divine if she was more open minded...she's rational, a Mage, and brilliant. However, I can't help but think she has some hidden agenda, and we will see her in the next game. I think that's why she wasn't a romance option, because her story is yet to be told, and they didn't want a romance to complicate things.

Yeah but the chantry is supposed to be above politics. Maybe cassandra can reform the chantry back to its principles, no bullshit.. Just aiding people In need and overseers of magic.

I go with feeling...

And she has none . The place of Divine need someone who reach out to the peoples (even if I dont agree with the chantry at all)......after everything that happen . And while Vivi is amazing as a mage , as a tactician , and very smart . She lack Warmness...she has none . She care but in a superficiel way . the chantry will be even more detached if she take the chair .

And everything that happen in the Past..and the blames that the chantry didnt do much to solve this or that issue..this would be bad in the Long run .

Again..thats just my personal view on things .

Supposed to be is the key word. Turns out the reality is that the Chantry is involved in politics whether it likes it or not. As least Leliana is able to convince people to her side while Cassandra requires the Inquisitor's help and has to make concessions or violently puts down revolts if she hates the Inquisitor.

Cassandra is a new kind of Divine. I think the fact that she couldn't give any less of a sh*te about pomp and ceremony and petty squabbles is more of a plus than a negative.
