But how does one know if they are the 'Good' kind of poster?!

For the past couple months, the majority of the conversations here have been... off-putting to say the least.

A lot of people seem to enjoy it though, so does that mean I'm the 'Bad' kind of poster?

/confused

*Edit*

A big problem though is that trolling is promoted here by people. I don't know if people realize they're doing it, but by responding to a troll, you're giving them more of a reason to do it.

You get a like because I hate this behavior and it is a very common occurrence around these parts!

Lol, im gonna make a confession here, and dont hate me for this, because I swear im reformed, but I have 4 warning points. And all of them are from the short period of time I was posting in the dai sections.

Since I switched to off topic I haven't gotten a single warning.

Most of us have broken the rules at some point here. I think its actually better to trust those that HAVE had infractions in the past if they show they're willing to work towards making this place better and aren't self-serving or just trollin' it up.

In my case, I've been suspended before, several times over the years. Can't count how many times, I haven't made a note of it. Sometimes I was suspended, sometimes I was just given a warning, etc etc. Never was it intentional.

Since the switch, I've done nothing of negative note.

There are some posts that I have disliked, but if there are any posters, I do not recall them.

but trolling is fun. so is running a circle or posting pictures that has no relevances to the thread among other methods.

Another thing of note is reputation- Stay here long enough and you'll build one. Make sure its a positive one.

YEARS ago, I was reporting the occasional troll or rule break, whatever it was. And I remember a dev/mod in response to me talking to him tell me that when I first was doing that, he was suspicious.

I didn't like that I had set that reputation. I didn't want anyone thinking I wasn't being genuine.

These days, I have NO clue what they think of me. Jessica Merizan thought highly of me, so that was nice. Even gave me a shoutout when I showed up to one of her streams/podcasts she's been doing lately. But I always loved her and how she posted here. :)

Nah, it really isn't. That kind of thing derails threads with good/great subjects and gets them closed. That in turn makes moderators or developers agitated, and that agitation makes its way into other otherwise innocent threads. It just hurts. It helps nobody. Its partially why the devs have gone dark on here.

Fun can be achieved positively. Defaulting to negativity to have fun is what makes this place less that it should be. If someone keeps doing that, they have no place to complain about how this place should be better as they are contributing to its current state.

I agree! If serious all the time, then there will be no fun....

You can be silly and joke around without necessarily trolling.

Its just that some people either can't tell the difference, or don't care and troll because for them, thats hilarious.

They don't realize how it actually takes away from the forums and makes them LESS fun. We're dealing with the after effects of trolling right NOW.

Big difference between fun from positivity and fun from negativity.

the fun part of trolling is watching when people go shitface with your trolling.

Yeah, negativity. My point exactly. We don't need it. Rather, we don't need more of it. We have too much as it is.

Back in the day at least it was promptly dealt with and curtailed. Now its like Bioware's letting this place go whatever way it will, relying on reports from fans instead of mods/devs coming across issues naturally and dealing with them appropriately.

Almost everywhere is better than 4chan. Thats not saying anything at all.

And the problem isn't how tame it is;the problem is that its even here in the first place.

But this is the "OFF TOPIC" Section.... it's the one place people can come to unwind, it's not supposed to be serious.

That kind of talk is what I mentioned earlier. Nothing's gonna change if you don't believe in it and work towards making it happen.

You absolutely can stop that sort of thing. Its that kind of thing that keep some people from being here, or send others away. That shouldn't happen. We absolutely can prevent it.

The question boils down to is Order versus Chaos. if we are actively trying to prevent negativity, when do we cross the line with prevention of that said negativity?
