So one of my four characters is a "classic" dwarf warrior, with a focus on nice big two-handed weapons. Hopefully a lot less "safe" than my Knight Enchanter "main." A question though...
While I know Swords and Axes are probably better, since they have a nice AoE effect on their swing, what I want to use most of all are big ol' warhammers. It just seems so fitting and fun to me for some odd reasons. What are the best warhammers you can find as a drop, and what is the best schematic for them?
There is apparently a mythical schematic called the War Hammer with 22 metal slots, 2 Leather offense and 1 metal offense, but I've never found it from all my farming. That's the best maul I can think of. The Sata Kas-Iss schematic is easier to farm out, though it only has one leather offense, one cloth offense and a metal utility, as well as only 20 metal slots.
As far as uniques, I don't really know. I've never hunted for maul uniques (or really any uniques), simply because I find the Hossberg Twainer Greataxe schematic to just be the best 2 handed weapon available, and you can just buy it.
Oh both of those Maul schematics have to be farmed from t3 chests.
War Hammer schematic does drop unless I am remembering wrong... I am 99% sure I have the schematic and I don't use a cheat engine. Will check later to be sure. Materials are 22 metal for damage, 6 leather for offense, another 6 leather for offense, and 6 cloth for offense based on the wiki stats. So pretty good. Lionhead Maul schematic could be as good or better depending on ability preferences but I am not sure it drops properly even through farming. Stats are 22 metal damage and 8-6-6 metal for utility for its other slots.
As for uniques/rares, Mhemet's War Hammer is the best unique one and is found in the Arbor Wilds (requires a bit of exploring). I think there is a good rare one that can be farmed from tier 3 chests... Sundering it's called maybe? I think it is a hammer in the shape of a horse head with decent stats... not sure though as I largely ignore most two handers.
Edit: Call of the Dark is another unique maul that is good.

In my experience, with the right schematics and materials, crafted weapons are always significantly better than rare or unique ones found in the game. From about level 15 on ... I have never used a weapon I found in loot, as my crafted weapons are always more powerful.

Usually true. Though due to drop issues it is, to my knowledge, impossible to get the schematic for a good endgame longsword. Besides that though you can usually craft superior equipment. But yes you usually CAN make superior equipment. But some people don't like gathering rare mats to make truly good equipment so I figured list all options.
Call of the dark, havn't found it yet, would love to know what it looks like, I love Mauls.
Imo, the War Hammer ( 22 metal, 12 offense leather, 6 offense cloth) is the best option. It's a schematic that can be farmed (I have it). Can post a screen if you want to check the look of it.

Ah yeah, that looks infinitely better than Mehmet's warhammer at least, but designwise I think I preferred the look of The Whale.
