I wasnt one of the people having huge issues.. Im still on my 1st playthrough though, so im still discovering. While i had a few crashes easriler.. Now that ive gotten skyhold and so on, its happening so often that i cannot progress.. I even tried creating a new character, and cannot get through the character creation process!

Can we get an ETA, or even some acknowledgment that youre going to fix the game.? Its clearly some bad coding, as stated in the DirectX error box.. This is ridiculous.. Theres literally a list of issues, and i cant help but feel this game needed (n ot could have benefit from) but NEEDED a few more months in development.. This kind of stuff should be illegal.

The game crashed to the desktop and you get an error message indicating some DirectX problem. Basically, the Frostbite 3 engine tries to do something with DirectX that is communicated poorly. ;)

I solved that on my computer by lowering some settings to high. I shouldn't have to but it seems that made the difference.

I solved that by toggling a graphics option called Ambient Occlusion off. It was either that or going windowed fullscreen, after I did those things I've never seen the error ever again. I prefer windowed fullscreen so that part was just an afterthought I'd forgotten at the time.

Not exactly an ideal fix in the former case but it removed my errors. :)

i was able to play for over 80hrs in Sp, and another 20 or so in mp and only had it hapen 2-3 times.. now its happening every 5-10mins suddenly today.. wtf!!! Idk if its something that worsens as you progress or what, but i am lvl 13 only been in Skyhold a shortwhile.. idk... This sucks though.. Its completely rendered my game unplayable.. And not just tat particular character... Ive tried creating a new one 4 times sine i posted this origionally, and all have ccrashed with the directx error

Try turning off Ambient Occlusion, Post Process Quality, Post Process Anti-Aliasing and MSAA

If that works without crashes, turn each of em up a little bit.

Also keep Meshes on Ultra and change textures up/down until your satisfied with fps, but meshes on Ultra is necessary because it cuts off view distance if it's set any lower... I think it actually ends up hurting performance.

My 0 crash play all day/night settings:

Mesh Quality - Ultra

Tessellation - Off

Texture Quality - High

Shadow Quality - High

Terrain Quality - Ultra

Vegetation Quality - Ultra

Water Quality - Ultra

Ambient Occlusion - HBAO Full

Effects Quality - High

Post Process Quality - Medium

Post Process AA - Medium

MSAA - off

Runs 60fps unless in high pop areas or high veg areas or high effects areas, so minor dips but mostly smooth, but that's what I get for keeping HBAO Full on, it's so lovely though.

My rig:

i5 3570 @ 4ghz

GTX 670

8G Ram

SSD

If you have an Nvidia Card in the control panel under "manage 3d settings", i changed these settings:

Power management mode - Prefer Maximum Performance

Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames - 3

Texture Filtering - Quality - Performance

I need a listing of your computer specs and current graphics driver. Sounds to me like you're over extending resources or your driver is out of date. Most likely it's crashing the driver because you have your settings too high. I'd check the temp on your card also. if you are over 75C you're going to notice some serious issues. I crank my fans manually.

If you set it to performance you're over-riding game settings?

That i am not sure. I felt i noticed a performance difference with the max pre-rendered frames though.

I get this regularly - I've also been timing it and you could say it happens every 30 mins, 60 mins or 2 hours.

The game crashes and you get the direct X error. Every time the same DX Error. If settings are lowered it just seems to take longer before the crash, hence the timings above. I'm writing this now as the game crashed 30 mins ago, but really , I just want to be playing the game I paid for.

I did also see that this was related to the cutsceens running at 30 fps? There was a recommendation to change the default cutsceens fps in the .exe file to read 60 instead of 30.

I'm not that tech savvy though, can't find the dam file....

Secondly - I'm running a rig well above the recommended max....why am I gimping my rig just to play? This should run on Max Ultra without any issues! And I did and its amazing, and it crashed on 15 mins exactamundo.

Running

Core i7- 2600K CPU @ 3.40 hz

16.0 GB RAM

64-Bit OS

WIN 7 Home Premium SP1

NVIDIA GFORCE GTX 760

Update:  In the last 24 hrs, ive had SIX total shut downs! Not just CTD's.. Im talking complete shut down of the entire Computer! Its always during a cutscene, or War Table.. I had a few in my 1st game of 178 hrs.. But this game, im only on 40hrs, and its happening at every, single cutscene.. I leave the Gametime.maxvariablefps 60, on.. But this is ridiculous.. This game is gonna end up frying something on my computer!

PLEASE FIX YOUR CODING! Obviously you created some catastrophic error in the process! FIX IT!!! This is beyond ignorance. You know this issue is here.. You should never have sold us something so incomplete..

This issue was created, or made worse with the last "patch". I made it through the first 60 hours of this playthrough with hardly any crashes, then came the patch. Now every time I enter a cutscene or dialogue there's about a 90% chance its going to CTD or complete PC freeze. It will occasionally crash at other times, but for the most part I can play in the open world and explore for hours on end. However, it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get through any cutscenes. When I played "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" it crashed 16 times in 3 hours.

Changing your settings may have some impact, but this is a serious issue that needs to be fixed.

My rig:

i5 3570 @ 3.4GHz

16GB RAM

Samsung SSD

nVidia GTX 970

... and I can't run on max settings? Insulting. Fix your game please.

Its official.. Im no wunable to play the damn game!  Or atleast watch a cinematic.. I dont get it.. This is my 1nd play through, and i had only a handful ofd problems my 1st one.. But this one, #2, is faaar worse!  Its not only doing the directx errors, its completely hsutting down my pc for EVERY...SINGLE... cinematic cutscene! Every other time i goto war table, its doing it as well..

Im also having far more graphical errors, and falling through maps, getting stuck above, and below rooms/environment!

So what the decision is, is a beta for "new" content? NO... fix the original!!!!!

Ive just upgraded to i5 as well jerome... And i also cant play on high, though im above the "suggested" specs.. Not minimum...Suggested.. WTH is this crap?!?Im far beyond counting shut downs now.. Its  every cutscene!

If your PC is shutting down, it sounds more like a hardware issue rather than a fault of the game. It could be that your PSU is on the way out - if the voltages are off, certain scenes in game could be exacerbating the issue, leading to a shutdown. You also haven't mentioned what your temps are. An overheating CPU can and will also cause a shutdown. Do you use any temperature monitoring software? Another potential problem could be your GPU. Any of these three items could be causing the issue you are experiencing. If you have the ability to swap out the PSU (and GPU if possible) I would give that a shot first to see if the issues persist.

It really doesn't sound like an issue with the actual game - if there are any defects in your system, the game is bringing it out and will likely continue to get worse.

While possible, I find this highly unlikely. These issues didn't become so frequent until after the last patch. Playing other games will tell you where the issue lies. Furthermore, the fact that it happens most often during cutscenes and war table is another red flag for the game. The cutscenes and war table are far less hardware intensive than open world exploration and combat. Yet as I stated, I can play for hours without crashes in open world. The moment I start a cutscene, there's about a 90% chance the game is going to CTD or freeze my PC.

I was responding to Rizilliant, where they mention that their PC is actually shutting down.

Also, I've noticed that cutscenes actually run my system harder than open world and combat. I can audibly hear my fans speed up when entering a cutscene. The most labor intensive are cutscenes in the open world, such as the scenes with Harding when entering a new zone for the first time.

A complete shutdown on one's PC without automatic-restart is usually related to CPU overheat...

True, DA:I burns away and stresses hardware resources on one's PC, but the issue is actually a personal problem... Proper AIR cooling chief, and/or clean off the dust in your tower.

That fix is caught somewhere in a limbo between nvidia, origin, frostbyte 3, ea and windows.

The temperatures are running at a safe rate.. I was finally able to get beyond the long cinematics leaving Haven after 7-8 gameplay hours.. i deleted 3 unused created characters, turned off Ambient occlusion, and post processing?, multisampling, etc.. Repaired the game.. Put Origins in Offline mode.. Skipping most of the dialog, combined with these other changes, i was finally able to get past it..  Im not overclocking either..

As jerome mentioned, these were not issues that were present previously.. Ive got almost 400hrs logged in Inquisition, and only on this most recent character have they become this bad.. I think in the 1st 178 campaign, i had a shutdown once, maybe twice.. I play, and have layed seveal demanding games, and play them maxed out.. Since its not only me, im inclined to believe it is indeed the game.. I keep my hardware up to date, purchasing replacements yearly... I may not be the most experienced person, by far, but my wife understands well, whats going on.. She does the upgrades herself, and built the entire rig piece by piece...

Again, if so many others werent experiencing the exact same problems, i would agree that it was hardware related.. Its only happening during the cinematic cutscenes..  Never during conversations... War Table seems to only be the Diretcx error..  I am using an Nvidia Video card..Im told this is partly cause, however, still with the games programming, not the card itself..

I have an open tower, with a glowing blue fan, so can see clear insde.. Werecently installed an i5-4690K, 3.5Hz 6Mb processor, and an H60 watercooler.. Its not overheating, and is 100% dust free

@ Mcpartyson:  The settings may have helped.. I wasnt sticking around to see if it happened again, but i was finally able to get beyond the long scenes leaving Haven..  In game settings.. Not the Nvidia settings.. Much of that part doesnt allow for manual skiping, so youre stuck watching it... That song by entire army is nice, but having to sit thorugh 10+ times was a bit much...

It's still possible that in the past 400hrs of gameplay your system was fine, but since then something has gone amiss which just happened to coincide with the most recent release. I just find it hard to believe that a game can be blamed for an actual system shutdown. That almost always has to do with a hardware issue. I've never done it myself, but I've read plenty of stories about people having problems with swapping out processors and properly seating a closed-unit liquid cooler (I have an H60 myself). With the H60, my system idles at about 29 degrees C. While playing DA:I (everything on max) it will hit around 65 degrees. It could also be that your graphics card is starting to fail. Other games may be fine, but it could just be something about DA:I that is exacerbating the issue. In time, the other games could very well cause similar problems.

Have you tried running any stress tests on the system (outside of DA:I and not other games)?

what stress test would you suggest?  Im at a complete loss, and would love to rule out everythng..

As for other things i do, that do not cause any ssue.. Dawn of War 2, (all 3 of them), Skyrim (heavily modded), Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs, Diablo 2&3, Dragon Age Origins, Divinity:Original Sin, Assassins Creed 4, Torchlight 2, Hearthstone, Fable TLC, Path of Exile, Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 1&2, Witcher 2, Borderlands 2, Titan Quest, Aarklash:Legacy, and a few others..

Thats not my entire library, just games ive played in recent weeks... None of done anything similar..

Raptr has me running at optimal settings as well, and ive even tryed some Game Booster crap..
