Black screen to start, then windows error

I have been able so far to install the game and hit play, but as soon as I do that I have a black loading screen then a windows error stating that Mass Effect 2 has stopped working and it is checking for a solution. I am running Windows 7 32bit, I have a 1440x900 screen resolution and bought the Mass Effect 2 Deluxe Digital Edition from Gametap. I was also able to download the extra content, but have yet to see if it is in my inventory.

bump, the computer also states that I should put the game on 1440x900 screen resolution for better quality, but the game only goes up to 1152x864.
