Hey everyone JoeTheQuarian here and today I decided to count down the top 10 overlooked Mass Effect characters. These are the characters that didn't get as much love as other characters yet crucially deserved it.

10. Wrex

Most here are probably thinking, "Wrex? He was like my best bro in ME" but according to Bioware only 36% of players got to see Wrex in ME3. Let me just say now: if you didn't see Wrex in ME3 then go back and replay the trilogy. Bringing him along is wroth it especially in ME3: Citadel.

9. Saren Arterius

With Martin Sheens flawless performance as the Illusive man in ME2 most players forgot about Sarens interesting struggle and realization of indoctrination. Throughout the books and games Saren was above all else ruthless and did anything to get the job done and he always generally thought he was doing the right thing up until the very end.

8. Space Hamster

If you haven't acquired the space hamster in ME2 or ME3 then you haven't played Mass Effect.

7. Jack

A lot of players hated Jack when they first met her including me. You really have to stay with her. Her loyalty mission really made me realize that he went through a lot and just needed a friend.

6. Matriarch Benezia

Much like Saren Benezia was clouded by other strong villains in Mass Effect despite her interesting arc of indoctrination. Her final words always stick with me. "No light. They always said there would be a..."

5. James Vega

Most ignored James before the game was even out when Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced as his voice actor but despite Freddies past experience in the entertainment industry he makes a really great voice for James making him funny (especially when giving nicknames to squad mates) yet still serous at times making it completely believable.

4. Captain Kirrahe

Kirrahe is one of my favorites on this list. No one could forget that epic speech on Virmire in ME1. "We will hold the line!" While he was memorable most players didn't take the necessary steps on Virmire to keep him alive and to see him again in ME3. I would strongly suggest saving him every time.

3. Feron

Being one of the few known Drell in Mass Effect Feron was much like Thane: a straight up Bad A. Ferons main appearance was in the comic Mass Effect Redemption but he was in Lair of the Shadow Broker.

2. Kaiden Alenko

Many consider Kaiden boring and uninteresting and saved Ash over him but I see him as a personal friend for my Shep especially in ME3. If you compare Ash and Kaiden Ash always judges Shep in saying he is some sort of Cerberus pawn while Kaiden is very understanding making him (in my opinion) the better friend.

1. Kahlee Sanders

Finally we've reached the end of the list and #1 is someone who is barely even in the games. Kahlee Sanders is one of my favorite Mass Effect characters in general and her main presence is in the novels. Kahlee is a top scientist working for the Alliance and has been on plenty of adventures. A lot of fans simply skipped over Kahlee in the books not even bothering to pick them up. Let me be the first to say that I usually NEVER read books yet I strongly enjoyed the Mass Effect novels (probably because of my shear ME fandom). Having said that I strongly suggest the Mass Effect books.

Agree with my list? Did I miss someone? Who do you think is the most overlooked Mass Effect character?

Kasumi.

A friend of mine actually has an interesting theory on how she'll actually appear again and be much more important than ever..

The lazy dock worker on Eden Prime.

His decision to take a nap while on the clock ended up saving the galaxy.

Zaeed.

Great character, has a lot to say if you talk to him after most missions, and his voice acting is incredible.

But gets mostly written off as a DLC character without proper dialogue trees.

What about the quarian Jona? We witness both his parents die. I tell ya, if there ever was to be a quarian with a grudge against the geth it's that poor kid.

I think it is hilarious that his name is Jona,

I wonder if that was intentional.

Speaking of novels - Gillian Grayson. We never learned of what happened to her or Idenna. I get the feeling we might learn more in the Next Mass Effect.

Also Admiral Xen. She really grew on me over time. Her performance as Tali's replacement is brilliant

Dr. Manuel from Eden Prime in ME.

So, I have to ask, because I am still wondering, Is Manuel from ME1 = Dr. Manuel Cayce from Firewalker? Frankly, I never understood the "story" behind the Firewalker missions anyway. The logs are just so jumbled.

As for the topic. Here are three characters, that only got dealt with in emails in ME3 who should have had at least a cameo appearance IMO:

- Emily Wong (the infamous twitter victim)

- Kal'Reegar (Talk about an awesome guy who got killed by email)

- Rana Thanoptis (I wanted to recruit her for the crucible project)

Oh, also, I would have liked to meet Mr. Thax, the distinguished Krogan business man from Illium. While he is only mentioned in a few lines in ME2, I think he was one of the rare examples that shows that Krogan don't all have to be stereotyped and that there is some individuality to be found in that species as well.

@Vazgen: I agree, it would have been great to see Gillian (and Hendel) in the games but I guess it was mainly Deception, that threw a wrench into that. In the end, I am glad that they kept the impact of that "novel" to a minimum, so that we all can silently forget about it.

I think it is supposed to be, though not explicitly spelled out.  It's the same VA doing Cayce's journal entries.

Yeah Zaeed was great. To bad his VA died though. :(

Saren and Benezia did have relatively little screentime, being the main villains and all.

But I agree the most about Kasumi: she's a unique character in ME: being the only really cheerful, carefree one. I think she would deserve at least a role in a real mission like Jacob and Samara. And if she had been romanceable, she would have been Miranda's only serious contender as far as my male Shepard concerned...

I never noticed that was the same Manuel from Eden Prime.

Kaidan is definitely an overlooked character. People say things about him that aren't even true.

Kaidan does not whine... ever.

He's not boring nor uninteresting, at least for me.

That's not the same thing as overlooked.

Overlooked is someone who is, ta-da, overlooked, as in not getting enough focus or screentime.

I wish Benezia got some actual development though. She's basically a mook captain who happens to be Liara's mother.

He's overlooked because a lot people decide to save Ashley instead because they think that what people say about him is true. (Stuff like ''He's always whining.'' ''He's boring and doesn't have any character development'' are not true.)

I totally agree. I don't know why people say the things they do about Kaiden when he's really just a general nice guy. Ash on the other hand constantly questions your decisions (Not that I don't like just she's just not as cool as Kaiden).

They were originally intended to be the same character, but that idea was later scrapped.  Many people (at least those who notice the connection) head-canon them back into being the same after all.

Kaidan suffered from being a bit bland in comparison to the rest of the crew in ME1. Sure he's a nice guy without any major issues..but that makes him a little boring compared to the ship full of aliens, and Ashley, who has a lot more personality.

I like Kaidan by the way. But I can understand why some people thought he was dull.

Lt Kurin.  Anyone who rocks into battle with pink warpaint/tattoo's is real hardcore. She deserves some more screen time for that alone.

Yo! You go girl!

You must have blocked the novel Deception out of your mind, which is understandable since it was terrible.

Never saw Kaidan again after Vrmire

really should replay the game with him alive instead of Ash just to see the character differences

I chose Ashley because I did(and my Femshep romanced Liara anyways)

My squad for most of ME1 was Wrex and Tali so even that wasn't it
