Anyone else getting this? I followed the instructions to the letter. It looks great in game but my FPS has tanked to half and it stutters quite a bit while running around. My PC should handle it so I don't know what's causing it.

windows 7 or 8? also, using RadeonPro to run SwetFX? Whos settings are you running?
I think its essentially a guarantee when using middleware that you will lose some performance. There is no such thing as any kind of software where performance is not lost when another layer is added in.
Its hard to believe SweetFX can half his FPS, a couple FPS, sure. He will just have to do some tests himself, by turning SweetFX on/off, and then by removing it, and run the game clean. Then try SweetFX again.
Try using K-putt'e Config and see if the same thing happens. Do other games work fine with sweetfx?
Hi there friend! ![]()
Don't worry, we'll get it working together. Just follow the steps below and it should work without a hitch!
1) First of all, delete all of the SweetFX files that you currently have in your DA:I root folder
2) Download this version of SweetFX: http://goo.gl/W2kZQQ
3) Extract the archive and only copy the following into your DA:I folder:
a. SweetFX folder
b. 64-bit dxgi.dll (from the X64_dll's folder)
c. SweetFX_preset.txt
4) Download Lostis' preset into your DA:I folder and rename it to "SweetFX_settings" (without the " " of course!)
5) Launch the game and check if SweetFX is running by pressing the Insert (Ins) key
The game shouldn't give you any more trouble after this. Please try these steps and report back with your results, but most importantly - don't panic, we'll find a way to make it run flawlessly eventually! ![]()
You can also find further information on running DA:I on the PC, including notes on enabling SweetFX, in this other thread I made: http://forum.bioware...the-pc-version/

Thank you for the detailed post! I followed your instructions exactly. It's definitely not as bad as before, but still dropping 12-15 frames. The only difference is now i can see the difference just by enabling it in game. Before, the fps wouldn't go up until i took all of the folders out. Now, the fps counter reflects the change just by hitting the scroll lock button to turn it on or off. I could deal with the 12 fps loss, but what's weird is the hitching. Is this normal? For example, I ran around haven in a circle a few times, both with the sweetfx enabled and disabled. While enabled the game would occasionally "hiccup". Especially apparent when circling the camera around. When the sweetfx is disabled, there isn't a single hitch. It's just a smooth run no matter what.
I almost wish I didn't experience the sweetfx. Now I can really tell the difference with it being it off; it looks so washed out without it lol.

No problem, glad I could help (at least for a little bit)! ![]()
I just had a look at your rig's specifications and it's a beast, no doubt about that. You really shouldn't see this sort of behaviour with SweetFX, period. Maybe a 1-2 FPS loss, but nothing like this. Now that I think about it, I know I had some problems myself with Lostis' preset in particular. He's got a LOT of effects going on in his preset and I think that's what's causing the issues.
Why not try Cookie's DA:I preset (which is the one I'm using), just to see how it runs compared to Lostis'? No need to change any SweetFX files now, just download Cookie's preset right on top of Lostis', overwrite his file when prompted and run DA:I again. Check if SweetFX is enabled using the "Ins" key, just like before.
It really shouldn't give you any further problems after this!
P.S. You DO have the Origin In-Game overlay disabled for DA:I, right? I am asking because that's been proven to induce microstutter in-game, not to mention conflict with SweetFX. ![]()
Now it's crashing on startup. This is happening with either preset in there. I double checked everything and it's all installed correctly in the folder. When I take the files out it works fine, but when I try to put them back in as described above, it crashes immediately when I try to load the game.
Hmmm, this is not going too well it seems! ![]()
How about you delete all of the SweetFX files from the DA:I folder, except for the SweetFX_settings.txt (either Lostis or Cookie's will do) and follow these steps:
1) Download this SweetFX version: http://www.file-uplo...in-8.1.rar.html
2) Extract the archive and delete the bundled "user.cfg" file
3) Copy over all of the extracted SweetFX files to your DA:I folder, minus the "SweetFX_settings.txt", which you've already left over from previously
4) Run DA:I and test if SweetFX is working by pressing "Scroll Lock" (SrcLk) on your keyboard
Please report back with your results and good luck! ![]()
I don't see a user.cfg file in there. Is it in one of the subfolders? It's just
SweetFX
x64_dll's
d3d9.dll
dxgii.dll
SweetFX Readme
SweetFX Preset
Sweet FX Setttings
Do I put these all in the DAI folder?
I downloaded and pasted the follows as you said but now nothing happens in game. I hit the scroll lock button but it doesn't enable the sweetfx at all. This is so strange, it seems to be fairly straight forward so I don't understand why I am having such trouble. I'm very sorry for wasting your time like this. Maybe I shouldn't even bother trying this.
I only know I had to delete that thing because it didn't allowed me to play in fullscreen without some directx error that I never had before I installed that mod! The mod is nice and all but I prefer my game "error-free" as possible especially since I never had problems in fullscreen before this mod.

That's because you used K-Putt's SweetFX version again, and not the one that I linked to in my last post! Furthermore, you didn't even use K-Putt's version properly this last time, since you copied everything over to your DA:I file, which you shouldn't have. ![]()
Powerplay's SweetFX version, which is the one I asked you to try to after you still had problems with K-Putt's, contains the following files:
- SweetFX folder
- d3d9.dll
- dxgi.dll
- eFX.ini
- SweetFX Readme.txt
- SweetFX_preset.txt
- SweetFX_settings.txt
- user.cfg
Delete all of the SweetFX files in your DA:I folder again, copy over only the bolded files from Powerplay's version and then try using Cookie's preset with it (rename it to SweetFX_setting.txt, just like before). To check if SweetFX is enabled, use the "ScrLk" key, not "Ins" like for K-Putt's version!

It worked! I still have a loss; but only like 2 or 3 fps which is totally fine. In skyhold facing out from the throne I am getting 78 fps at 2k resolution. Running around I am keeping at 70's. Checked the hinterlands and I am in the 60-70 range.
Thank you so much for your help!

Haha, finally! I told you we could do it! ![]()
Like I mentioned previously, 2-3 FPS is what you would normally expect to lose when using SweetFX with any game, not just DA:I, but that's performance well spent given how drastically it can improve visual fidelity! I, for one, cannot run games without it anymore, I just love it that much. Furthermore, your current performance is perfectly normal for your setup and resolution. I'm sure the game looks and plays terrific for you now!
Have a blast playing DA:I in its current state, you earned it! Should you encounter any other technical problems, head on over to the dedicated PC thread and we'll sort them out together, no worries! ![]()

Yeah once you experience it, it's hard to go back. It looks amazing. There are some places in this game with such awesome visuals. Thanks again for all your help!
I'm pleased it's working for you, OP.
(This complexity is also why I'm sticking to Console
)
