Each time Bioware releases a new game, they gift us with a new group of loveable, unique companions.

Here I want to propose an idea for a new companion, who could appear in a future game.

Basically it would be a noble orlesian rogue, who comes from a rich family. The interesting thing about him is, that he is kind of deranged.

He should be obsessed with ridiculous things like the taste of old cheese or the deformed arms of male elves.

It would be great if he could mention these things everytime you talk to him.

Of course he should be straight. Another obsession he has, should be finding a conventionally beautiful woman to procreate (and not for love!). But this plot should have a twist too, because he is so crazy, he thinks he has to break her will before she is ready to be his wife.

It would be great if he has a title like Lord.

Further he should insist that he is the rational one as often as possible, even though everybody (including himself) knows that he is lunatic.

What do you think of my idea?

I am afraid, adding a craazey companion for the sake of being craaazey might make the character "Randumb XD"

Only if he comes with a free bottomless pit of your choice so you can toss him in it.

No...While I like the idea, I wouldn't want a moron in my party. I'd like a rich ass noble who is full of himself.. or something like that.

I find it to be a splendid idea, at least partially, because we have already had a few good Orlesian champions. What about a Tevinter mage, or Ancient Elf aristocrat found in his white bedsheets with block of cheese? I'm not sure about the last bit about him continuously, literally reaffirming himself and others about his 'rationality' I do not think it fits the profile, unless you mean it in a sense that he always explains his reasoning in a way that may appear to cast a light of rationale.

What about highly intelligent females, I think that both thinking capacity and beauty are of importance when it comes to breeding. Oh, not to mention magic abilities!

Personally, I would not call 'crazy' such a superb treasure. Not to mention that 'crazy' fits commoners, aristocrats are 'eccentric'.

Yes, please, sapphire blooded mystic gentlemen should get a healthy dose of content in the game. It would teach many Inquisitors how to interact with their betters, also it would promote a harmonious hierarchy, where everybody knows their place.

Yes that is even better!

He could be an elf apostate mage and proclaimed himself Lord of the Dales.

He should believe himself to be very smart, handsome and funny, while having none of these qualities, obsessed with his arms and finding a woman that is worthy of him. Of course she has to be an elf too and of course she needs to be broken first.

He could be the avatar for all the players who dont understand that the elves in Dragon Age are not the elves of the Forgotten Realms.

Doesn't that sound great?

Bioware said they won't be adding new companions because it's too complicated

Of course a pathic loser like this character will never find a woman, because he is too demanding and every woman, who fits his criteria wouldn't consider dating such a weirdo.

But no, he should not be to a rapist, he should just have a really twisted interpretation of how relationships work. (And because of that never have a relationship) He should be creppy though.

Tsk tsk. After reading more about this initially well presented character, now,  I'm not so sure if it is a good idea to implement him. Dear ArmOfJustice, I fully understand your desire to see companion list widened, but your suggestion is a little bit out of touch with DA lore. I mean, I truly appreciate your passion, but similar model of arranged marriage already functions in the game. Considering how Tevinter Imperium copied a lot from Ancient Elvhes, it would not be surprising at this point to learn that they were practising selective breeding, in fact they most probably have done it on a large scale. Even modern elvhes know importance of elf-elf union, as stated clearly by Merrill, she speaks about preserving who they(elvhes) are, she speaks that it is bad to breed with other races, she even says 'not that they can possibly hate me any more' which most obviously suggests that such vile interracial union would bring hate on her pretty, pointy head. Elvhes cannot sip from the chalice of naivete and indulge themselves in 'love'.

Yeah, bring it. He sounds like one of the fops from the Suikoden series, with a pinch of Lezard Valeth. It wouldn't be fitting, but I would love to see it.

I'm so happy there seems to be support for my ideas.

I wrote a little dialogue to give you a feel how he talks:

The protagonist and his companions, including the Lord of the Dales, are in a little village, that was destroyed by bandits. A male villager approaches them.

Villager: Could you help me? The bandits took my lover with them. He is in danger. I would pay you a huge amount of money if you save him!

The protagonist: I will think about it.

Lord of the Dales: May I brighten your horizon with the light of my Rationality? We should stick to the traditional people, those who love the other sex. We could earn much more if we save those, because there are so much more of them.

The protagonist: But we could try to save them all? There is no need to choose.

Lord of the Dales: No! I see you fail to observe the obvious again! You promised to help me to heal the illness that blighted my people. Their arms are horribly deformed. We need to rush, don’t botch this, they ignored it, you should not do the same.

The protagonist (ironic): Yes! Sorry I overlooked the most important things. Thanks for keeping me on track.

Lord of the Dales rants about how normal selective breeding is. Nobody is listening.

I truly like this dialogue, but shouldn't Lord of Dales use [knife kill](unfortunately not present in DA:I) on the villager who dared to speak to a nobility without being asked first? Such insolence, such arrogance must be punished!

I would change: 'Rationality' to 'light of my reasoning' and 'promised to help' to 'I have obliged you'.

Solas would most definately listen, not to mention Dorian.

but, how did villagers get a hold of 'huge amount of money'? appropriated taxes? stolen? well, they sound like a rebels. burn the village, sell wenches and brats, thank the men with gallows!

Okay, I will admit it! I had a little inspiration for this character. Yes I based him on Sarah Jessica Parker. Nobody can deny it.

But still, now is the time for a douchebag companion. I know some will point to Carver, Anders, Fenris or maybe Morrigan. But none of these Characters are really douchbags. They are not easy to deal with, but they have good excuses for the way they are.

The Lord of the Dales should not have a tragic backstory to explaine his somewhat warped views.

He simply is self-absorbed and unempathetic, to counter this he should be self-confident and not react negatively if others joke about him. Think of the "Awesome Ego" trope.

My adoration for this idea continues its flow. I fully agree with the 'awesome ego' trope. He is a noble after all, why would he react negatively to a barking of a mabari or hissing of a bug; lowly cur and vermin are insignificant. At least this is how I imagine this character, Good work! I hope to learn more about The Lord of Dales.

This might be a joke thread, but if Bioware ever includes a companion character who is an Orlesian noble I hope they avoid a campy Monty Pythonesque portrayal. I'd want a serious companion rather than a bad French stereotype farting in my general direction, as humorous as that might be.

Loosely base him or her on some historical bad@ss, like this guy:
