Because....curses on the map designer....there are three (!!!) books with Codex entries in that room - it's the locked room on the left on the lower level of the Chantry building if you don't know what I'm speaking of - and it appears I can't get those books with my main Inquisitor who is a mage. That....sucks.

So, is there a key to that gate? Or any other way to get in there? It doesn't help that these Codex entries are really important background information, namely "Andraste, Bride of the Maker", "The Black City" and "The Disciples of Andraste". Yes, you can buy them later in Val Royeaux, but that's not the same.

Grr.... *fumes out of the ears*

If you recruit Sera, you can ask her to open the locks in the basement of the Chantry.  If you choose not to recruit Sera, you can't get to it if you're not a Rogue.

Edit:  She'll open all the locked doors in the basement.  The room you want in, and each of the prison cells.  So you can get to two lootable items and, i believe, another codex entry.

The book merchant in Val Royeaux sells all the books you miss, including those 3.

Sera after recruiting her, in her dialogue options, when talking to her in the pub, is unlocking doors, in the cells.

The only broken doors, are on Wicked Minds and Wicked Hearts, where you need a rogue inquisitor to open, because they are in the court area of the mission. That mission is bugged because you cannot open every door. Including the mini quest doors, there aren't enough Halla tokens to also get at the important information.

Yeah I was a little irritated by this at first with my mage, until approaching Sera and noticed the dialogue option about the lockpicking.

Just because you can't open every door in Halamshiral, doesn't mean the mission is bugged(though, that locked door by Morrigan's room is rather annoying)...  I like that the player can't open all the sealed doors.  It requires me to think about what is more important:  Treasure or controlling Celene.

Ah, thanks for the hint about Sera!

As for the inacceassible room at the Winter Palace, that's not a concern. There's just equipment in there (read: nothing important you can't get elsewhere)

Even if the loot isn't worth it, it still could be sold. The one in the Winter Palace does annoy me because I can't tell Varric, Cole or Sera to unlock that door in the library when I play as a mage or warrior.

Nice, never knew you could have Sera unlock those doors. I always had figured there was never a way to get in there.

I have never seen any dialogue from Sera about lock picking and I exhaust all dialogue with her at Haven.

Same. I talked her butt off and she never had that pop up.

I think you need a certain level of approval or something

Interact with the door after Sera joins. That's how I get it.

This. You need to try the doors yourself before the conversation option ("I need some locks picked") with Sera appears.

Nope.
I guess it's a combined thing: interacting with doors and approval.
I tried the doors and the dialogue option didn't pop up. Now I'm bringing Sera around, helping little people in the hinterlands. I hope this will get me enough approval.

I've noticed if your on pc and you try just with the mouse click it doesnt work. You need to actually have it make the circle interact graphic on the door and then use whatever you have set to use on your keyboard. This will actually get you some party member remarks as well if you try to interact with any magic/lockpicking points

Thanks a lot, mate. That fixed it for me.

Immediatley after recruiting her then finding her in the pub, providing you have been to the basement cells detecting the doors in haven first.

The point about the Winter Palace is why wasn't there equality? The same with dragon killing, I must have gotten around 6 daggers, wait they dual weald, right?

You cannot get to the information and complete the other Halla doors. The only mini-quest i complete was Blackmail hunt. Elven conversation were bugged painful to listen too, sounding like, somebody slurping for the most part, because that is so important. Coins were annoying because you had to stand on top of them before any detection. I doubt there was anything epic in the fountain, other then pointless degarding approval which isn't raised again on finale.

I think it only bugged me because there aren't any doors that are exclusive to a mage or warrior to open as well.  If each class had a door to open it wouldn't bother me at all.  Its the same feeling I got at the start of Dragon Age 2 when you had that locked check that you needed to be playing a rogue to open.

There are 3 class specific operations in the game Rogue - open locks, Mage - energize various things light/make bridges/remove obstacles and Warrior - smash things.

So imo it's more that you have to have these three classes in the game at all times with you, than anything else.

In the court area of the mission on the Winter palace. You cannot send, Varric, Sera, or Cole to open those locked doors because they remain in the court. Until the combat part of the mission. No equaility. Forcing me to play as a rogue to find their secrets, which amount to some rusty weapon or armour. I was however curious? Looking for more Halla tokens to get into the mini quest doors. Because I didn't open 3 of them, one in the courtyard near the fountain, and the choices on finale of the basement, preventing me exploring the bottom tier of that dungeon map.

I got the information about Celene's fetish granny porn, asserting domination of her station on all those poor stable boys. Yikess. But being a closet girlfriend to Briealla, that picture is getting worse by the minute. Off with her head. But I really needed the agent gained.

I fully understand the mechanics of utilizing the other classes to do their jobs. I do not understand the concept behind any mission, which I cannot fully complete due to error. Any Dragons which drop the most epic daggers. Heck I didn't get 6 staves, one handers, two handers, or bows from them, only countless daggers. I rarely used an archer or dual weild to kill any with though.

I agree that that Court door should not be rogue only since you can't ahve a rogue there unless you are one. Or if there should be an option to ask either your companions or Lelieanna to open it (she is a rogue too.) for you if you are a warrior or mage. Loot off mobs and chest is RNG (randomly generated) so, that's just the luck of the draw as to what you get. Save before a fight or loot that offers the chance for great items, if you don't get what you want, reload and try again.

I am referring more specifically to what happens during Wicked Minds and Wicked Hearts when there is a door only a rogue can unlock if during that segment there was a blocked off passage for a warrior to break down or a barrier for a mage to get through I would have been alright for each class had a doorway only they can get through.

I don't mind that there is a bonus for our rogue friends out there. Ìt builds up to create yet another reason to attempt an additional playthrough with a different class.

If they are going to make certain parts of a mission class-based (during the main story quests of the game), then they need to make other missions warrior-based and mage-based as well. That makes it fair all around.

Having to bring one of every class into your team to get all missions is one thing- leaving out stuff if you aren't the right class is another.
