Like topic sais at times my companions just suddenly drops in health like down to 10% health left? what is this bug? i'm not talking about if i jump over a cliff or run down a mountain. I'm talking about when i'm walking on plain ground, with no enemies or such around..

This is a very annoying bug and it happens to me a lot. And since dai don't support healing means i need use healing pots everytime it happens, and we are super limited on health pots...

So @Bioware could you look into this and fix it? it don't make sense at all..

I've had this happen to me too. Mosty in the Hissing Wastes and one of the jungle maps. You just walk around and suddenly a companion yells and their health drops, but there is no indication of what causes it (like you say, no aggro, fall damage). I was wondering about it too.

It's physics damage.

For some reason they take phantom falls sometimes and get damaged (I think it might happen when the game has to warp them to you). It may be related to enemies and critters that occasionally take fall damage when they spawn in (and since physics damage apparently counts as player damage, they immediately aggro on you).

The game drops us into the world, I suppose so we don't go knee deep on spawn in, which used to be a problem I saw modding worlds

This is prob not helpful but I use regen pots to top up health

It's always amusing to watch Vivienne fly in from the sky when you load a saved game. :)

If they get too far away they will warp to you but get dropped from the sky. In the Hissing Wastes sometimes going over a sand dune they will take fall damage crossing over the top. The animals will sometimes do it too and then aggro on you.

Yeah this is something I've noticed, I'd say this is a bug that should be fixed. It's polish, but still important.

I've never seen it happen in 130 or so hours playing between my two playthroughs on the PS4.  Maybe a PC specific issue?  Health bars don't even pop up unless in battle for me.  If my character falls off of a cliff, I'll see the red numbers for how many HP they lost, but thats all unless he/she falls into an unplayable area.

It isn't just a PC issue.  It happens on Xbox 360 as well.  Fortunately, it doesn't happen too often.  However, it should still be fixed as part of a patch.

I play on PS4 and its not common but it does happen. The one where the respawning causes damage happened maybe once and wasnt major. The Hissing Wastes thing hurting my companions happened a few times but the animals hurting themselves was actually common. I'd be walking along, get near some animal near the summit of a dune and bam, see damage numbers pop up and it'd aggro on me.

I have faced this problem from time to time on both PC and Xbox. I just chalk it up to them stubbing their toe and it apparently hurt....alot.

This happened to me a bit as well - mostly when I'm going down hills.

Pff - the first time it happened to me, I had Varric, Cassandra and Solas in the group. Varric and Solas had that conversation regarding humans setting things on fire (again) and how they were around to make sure it doesn't happen, Varric lost a whole lot of his health. I just assumed Cassandra smacked him with her shield which is why he lost the health and not Solas.

Last night Viv managed to fall off the path somewhere in Valammar, and must have been trapped by a surface above as well. She started going through a loop of: fall down, scream, go up half a screen until blocked, repeat ad infinitum (to misquote Blackwall). This was quite funny for the first five seconds. Single key presses to change character, go to map etc. did nothing. However increasing frustration leading to multiple thumps on the keyboard eventually got me to the map screen and a quick trip back to Haven.

Now I don't feel nearly so bad about dressing Viv in plaid. Wonder if I can create a baggy plaid combat suit for her?

I would pay to see that in action!

To be honest the controlled character receives falling damage, so it would seem to stand to reason that the others should as well.
Makes sense if you ask me.

My issue is that it doesn't happen when falling, it happens all the time when just walking - especially somewhere like the Storm Coast or in the Hinterlands near the river where area is rocky by design.  It's like the AI gets hung up on it and causes fall damage.  But never fear, you can just use a mage to cast Regeneration and...wait, nvm.
