I'm a little absent minded now and then, and I don't notice when simulacrum takes effect. Then, sometimes, I see my health low, panic, and pop a potion. Then the timer runs out, I die anyway, and my potion was wasted. Could we make potions unusable during this time? It would be a nice quality of life buff for the Necromancer.
Could we make healing potions unusable while under the affects of Simulacrum? Bioware pls.

That would be nice. I've done that a few times, thinking that I had just been brought back to life with death siphon, rather than simulacrum.

If anything we should be telling Bioware to remove the ability altogether.

This happened to my necro friend i run with three times last night. i know health potions are not exactly rare, but without being able to upgrade the base number carried they are precious on higher difficulties.

Actually no, only because someone is a little absent minded now and then is no reason to change it. I for example use Health pot on Simulacrum. You know when I am low on health and need to cast one more WB or revive. Do not be absent minded, simples.

i think if you recover HP when you are in simulacrum
you should not be dead afterward .
the same for heal on kill which you auto revive

No. There is already two skills that have some kind of "second life" to them. Unyielding and Guardian Spirit already do what you ask in their own way. Simulacrum is fine how it is, but I agree with the OP that potions should be blocked while it's active.
I have wasted so many potions due to Simulacrum... So many potions.

It's not just about absentmindedness. Sometimes simulacrum forgets to make me look like a ghost, which means I'm not sure if I'm standing because of that, or if I got revived via death siphon.
Either way, if you are a ghost, and your body is lying on the ground elsewhere, where did that potion that you used come from anyway?

So what and who cares? ;)
The point being that you are trying to take away option for using health potion for Simulacrum because and I quote (again):
I'm a little absent minded now and then, and I don't notice when simulacrum takes effect.
or

Where to the first the advice is obvious and I've given it and to the second, well, Simulacrum forgets? Sound like game design issue to me not issue of disabling option. Talk to devs, they are allegedly back in business. Well, not today of course.

And you are not the only one. See above. I do understand what you are saying and it happens to me too, however, the solution proposed is in my opinion about as good as other implementations of solutions in the game - amateur at best.

I would like this as well. I've only wasted one potion, but its cause I saw my health low, and popped the potion just as the deathblow was dealt, so it ate a potion on me.

I don't think that mentality is in line with the rest of the game's design. For example, when you use an ability that misses or has no effect when you use it, it doesn't go on cooldown. If it did then I could accept that this is some hardcore sh*t and i should just be more alert and aware. But it doesn't. So, to me, that says that they don't want to punish you too much for small errors, such as hitting an ability as the enemy dies, or just missing your mark. Bioware thinks that the average cooldown is too valuable to be taken from you for no reason, why should the same not apply for one of the only 2 potions I can have in a mission?

Has anyone tried a regeneration potion while in simulacrum to see if the healings tics after you fall will pick you up?

No, but I think I'll give it a go now.
Edit: Tested, no dice. Remained dead. Further more, no regen effect on revive by team mate. Regen potion should be disabled during Simulacrum as well. I would say healing mist should be too, but it's possible to heal an ally with that. (Though I have never seen anyone so selfless.)
