Point being?

It literally never would have happened without Anders killing her direct superior.

That act and that act alone gave her authority to order annulment.

It's not a matter of having the authority. I don't really care about that, because many people can do reprehensible things that they are technically authorized to do.

Lol Meredith accused every single templar recruit of "falling to blood magic". You think the opinion of divine mattered to her? Do you think anything mattered to her?

Of cource Meredith was insane because red lyrium but so was Orsino. If there was option to walk out I'd have taken it, too bad that you had to chose from two bads.

Difference is that Orsino wasn't supposed to be fought if you sided with the mages. The devs have said that they needed another endgame boss so mages fight Orsino anyway despite his whole "with you on our side, we might have a chance after all". Plus, Orsino doesn't go crazy until after Meredith tries to commit genocide.

How could I?

Indeed, I recall him using the word "robes" and making overtures towards my Hawke as well.

Don't forget how if you play a female Hawke and choose to fight the Templars, he not so subtly implies he plans of raping Hawke after the fight. Gee, how can anyone not support the Kirkwall templars /s

Really? I rolled a female Hawke but I don't remember. What does he say exactly?

That and Alrik's harem of Tranquil Mages with a Final Solution to broaden his choices.

He essentially goes along the lines "Kill everyone but her, I have uses for her"

On my first playthrough I kept Karras alive with help of Varric, apparently I was "First Enchanter Hawke" and so on... when I heard this always killed him ever since.

I've seen a cutscene where he also does it to a male Hawke as well.

Well at least we know he's an equal opportunity creep, as Alain can testify.

This. Gaider himself confirmed that the mages in the Gallows were completely innocent of anything to do with Anders. Thus, siding with the Templars means you are perfectly content committing genocide against innocent people for an obviously insane despot. Don't forget that Meredith ordered the annulment at the start of Act 3 so she always intended to kill everyone in the Gallows, Anders finally gave her the chance to do it.

Id have 0 problem wiping out the Kirkwall circle considering it was full of mages who immediately used blood magic & demons when attacking

Yeah he was part of the group that opposed Meredith and they kidnapped someone to make a point. He is the only one capable of freeing the kidnapped and he does it.

So what exactly do you care about?

I care a great deal about the law. However, being lawful in and of itself does not mean that I will automatically support it. Sometimes, some laws are sh*t and should be done away with. So while Meredith may be well within her authority to invoke the Right, my belief that her invocation is unjustified makes her authority meaningless to me.
