And what's funny is that if the circle system wasn't something to be feared, there would likely be less abominations. After all, if independent circles exist where parents don't have to fear losing their children to the chantry, they might be more open to sending them there and thus not keeping them which risks possession. I don't think the Connor situation would occur if Leliana's independent circles existed at the time.

Whether the Chantry should be involved with the Circles (which I gather is the issue your post explores) isn't really central to the point I was making.

Yet apparently it's okay for you to point out the Witcher universe to support your claims.

Way more similar setting.

Take a look at Oblivion. Mages in Elder Scrolls are able to go to their own academies with no mobs. You don't see the mages being lynched if given their freedom do you?

Were the people of the elder scrolls ruled by an Empire run by mages that practice blood sacrifice and brought about the near end of the world and mass suffering by bringing the darkspawn into existence?
Are the mages in the elder scrolls at constant risk of possession and are there cases of demon possessed mages going on mass killing sprees?
I was going to say something about Maleficar's controlling the mind of Kings but then theres Jagar Tharn....Maker your right, The peoples of Tamriel need to do something about their mages

Such is the reward for treachery and regicide you evil witches =P

Damn that was a tough choice though, thinking from a northern prospective at the time, wanted to throw those mages at Nilfgaard come invasion time. But ofc then I realized having a secure western front was much more important. Plus Radovid King of Temeria AND Redania if the north ends up winning?! Hell yes, Heck if that guy controlled the entire North I might even consider letting him have it indepedently

Ultimately though all must bow to The Empire.

Nilfgaard is governed by an idea that they have ''Elder Blood.'' It is easier Radovid create a witch hunt than the Empire. The witcher mages are well accepted compared to dragon age, meanwhile, the elves of The Witcher suffer more racism than dragon age ones.

I see I wasn't the only one doing my best to sabotage the Northern realms. I ranked up a respectable four dead kings plus Saskia by the end of my playthrough.

The problem is that TES doesn't have the abomination problem. Yes, there's still daedra worship and the dangers of that, and that did end up being what got the Mages' Guild disbanded between Oblivion and Skyrim, but that's not even close to the same order of danger. You pretty muchcan't destroy a city with Conjuration in TES unless you're really powerful, and at that it's almost impossible to do without wanting to. Connor proves that you don't need to meet either of those qualifications to do that in Dragon Age.

I do think it's also fair to point out that the town Connor nearly destroys also had almost all its knights stripped as they were off on a quest to find a mythological artifact.

I won't pretend that made Connor's job harder, but at the same time I don't see that making much difference. Knights who are specifically trained and empowered to fight mages have trouble with abominations. Perth and the others would probably have been lunchmeat.

That is how the mage rebellion should have been dealt with.

You don't coddle a rebellion. You crush it.

Also while I sympathized with the mages *before* they rebelled, I lost all sympathy for them the moment they started killing innocent people. The leaders of the mage rebellion were fools whose actions only served to justify the fears the rest of the Thedas had for them. Vivienne summed up their buffoonery perfectly.

Sure.

With the higher number of maleficarum running around, it would keep the Templars well-occupied.
