Mages should be free. It is through being feared and shunned that many turn to darker arts to be more free.

Keeping them locked up from the beginning has the perspective that they are being protected from the fearful masses. However, the fear is caused by the Chantry, and the persecution is brought on by many who feel they are doing as the Chant preaches.

The Chantry made the problem that mages face, and a horrible solution.

Didn't see if this was said, but I am always reminded of X-Men when this comes up, with the question of how one should be treated for being born with an incredible gift. It was wrong in that universe, and it is wrong in this.

And to give everything a free pass serves no purpose to the collective well being.

Morals rarely have anything to do with the collective well being of anything besides the people up top who set them but don't follow them.

Yes?

When you support the faction that endorses rape, slavery, torture, and fanaticism for a hypocrite with a god complex, it kind of colors the kind of person you are.

How are those traits negative?

Edit: The cult of mars is from a cancelled game and is non canon, just so you know.

Okay, I understand that you disagree with several people on this issue. I disagree with many people on this issue as well.

But it's just a game. No need to go that far, and it is not necessarily true.

But heck, it's the internet. Type what you want. Just don't think you're going to like the road you traveling on with this frame of mind.

I'm sure your mom would be very proud to know you consider her as nothing better than breeding cattle.

I get the feeling this thread is going downhill fast. In fact it heading straight to the abyss. Please change its direction. We can argue and debate while staying polite and civil. The last thing we need is personal insult.

I have, But that has absolutely nothing to do with the point I made. If you think allying with Tevinter is better than allying with Caesar's Legion, well....have fun deluding yourself.

@thesuperdarkone2:  Like all despotic kratocracies... Ceasar's Legion would collapse after he died.

The NCR really just needs to grab some of the artillery from the airfield and shell the morons into oblivion.

People actually believe that don't they?

The dogma actually will die with him.

The collective expansionist culture dies with him.

The Legion dies with him.

It won't.

Lets just say first hand experience overrules Marcus.

And then get the hell outa' Vegas, Go home and sort out that BS with the Brahmin barons, and those morons Kimbell and Oliver. If they come back an actual competent faction they may be allowed to stay

Again: the mutants in X-Men (by and large) don't have the raw potential to be walking natural disasters that mages do. Curtailing mage freedom makes perfect sense in the context of the possibility of one going abomination in an isolated tower with nobody there to stop it before it waltzes into the nearest city. The reason I don't advocate this in X-Men, TES, and most other settings where certain beings have supernatural advantages that allow them to take advantage of their fellow man is because almost none of them pose the threat that an untrained mage in Thedas can: most of what a mutant or a TES mage can do can be stopped by more responsible members of their respective classes of superbeing, with only the really powerful ones ever even potentially threatening an entire city.
