o.o I'm actually in the middle of throwing around a TES fic.

I got the basic premise.

Just...not really what I want to do with it.

Um....the Harrowing is designed specifically to force you into circumstances where you may get possessed, whether by force or through trickery, you must resist or fail, or if you take too long, die.

There is no failing it and not ending up possessed.

Then, uh, yeah, kill them if they're possessed. Posession is... bad.

At that point it does become rather necessary. That's why I'd as soon give them the option to just forgo this whole thing. Unfortunately the only way to do so with any safety seems to be Tranquility.

Mages should pick leaders who aren't idiots. The argument in DAI against their freedom isn't their magic or the risk of becoming abominations; it's that they clearly seem incapable of leading themselves.

bad leadership is the problem with many factions in general within DA when it comes down to it, the only ones who dont seem to mess up everything they touch are yourself or people you placed in power

Leadership wouldn't be a problem if all of them were free once they passed basic training. It probably wouldn't be practical to have a mage school in every village but one in each area at least. Splitting up the mages around the country would probably solve most of the issues since it would make them identify as as part of the area/country/village first and not just as a mage.

I also think the game showed that most mages are pretty harmless except for the risk of possession. Honestly the mage rebellion was tragic. It was like they gathered up a bunch of literary professors for example and dumped them off in Siberia and told them to live off the lands. Most of them had zero experience and knowledge on how to survive on their own. Even with the magic I don't see the great harm in these people when all but a few are not that talented to begin with.

The Mages Choir sing aloud....

I just want to be free
I just want to be free
I want to be free of all the hurt
Free of all the pain
I want to just end these lonely hours
End these lonely days
I just want to be free
I just want to be free

Inquisitor Adrastia uses a gun and she is a psychic (which is literally mage of that franchise). Which is why she is my favorite character, she is the Inquisitor. The fate of galaxies  hangs on her say, exterminate or let live.

For every free mage there is a tevinter mage coming up with crazy ****** magic. If they want to live in Fereldan or Orlais they should abide by the rules and be regulated if they don't like it they should go to tevinter

Adrastia has very little on Commisar Ciaphas Cain IMO. He and Jurgen would show these phychics what's what.

Even in Tevinter there are rules and regulations for mages to ensure that no mages will step out of the line, or upset their better. Hell, they even have their own Templars although Tevinter templars answer to the Imperial Chantry, and the Magisters have significant political influence over them, and they only step in when mages go too far. There's no such things as place with absolute freedom, that's bullshit.
