The current way gave mages a higher standard of living compared to a normal peasant apart from coming & going as they please, they'd really have something to complain about if they were stuck in a Qun type system

Hey, the Qun are the mothafuckin' shizzzz.

No because you automatically think mages cannot put restrictions on themselves. In Tevinter mage bad eggs are made tranquil. executed and imprisoned by mages in authority and responsibility of keeping mages in line. Hence I called on your absolute bias and double standard, like you are not even subtle.

One thing to note is that, generally, the bad eggs in Tevinter are just the losers in political conflicts.

I also find it rather strange how the Chantry hates Mage's, yet Mage's are special in that they are closer to the home of their beloved Maker? I don't know, I'd of thought the people who can interact with the home of my God would sort of be respected.

 * No longer the home of their God.

So the nobles of Thedas are all good eggs , correct? Their nobility is counted before than them being mages. They are noble first, mage second and as such their position of nobility grants them more power than any magic could just like in the south. At any rate there is no question that the Tevinter system of controlling mages is working better than south. They didn't have any rebellion and there have been no magical incident over there since the new Tevinter.

If you consider, mages having all the power and the entire non-magical having none as "controlling mages", sure.

The system and culture are two different things, as you well know. The system deserves a chance because all you have against it is nonsense paranoia. The none-mage system failed, now we we should try something else.

Yes people can get set up but there are true bad eggs such as those who think summoning demons is a good idea.

To control something doesn't necessarily meaning having it on a ball and chain.. The Mage situation is controlled by the system they have in place.

yeah but many mages pass their harrowing and go on to become possessed  and or turn to blood magic.

Yes there is that possibility but what do you suggest? going back to the way things were is out of the question  , best thing we could do is have templars roam the streets as well just in case , like the city guards.

Right, though I think I remember Dorian mentioning that the magisters in power practice blood magic and all that bad stuff, just they do it in private.  Obviously doesn't mean they're all summoning demons, but I highly doubt that it never happens.

Anyway, I don't think a system with mages in control is a great idea, though I wouldn't be opposed to a system where mages -can- be in control.  Hmm, I wonder.

I like the idea of Templars being around as protectors, not just in Circles or Chantries, but everywhere, just in case.

Indeed. Without change we will drown in age-old problems.

One rebellion in a thousand years of peace does not mean it failed.

Also, if your suggestion to prevent Abominations is to make society a magocracy, I'm not seeing people going for it. You act as if you can pick the parts you like about Tevinter and bring them South without also transplanting the parts you don't like without even considering the very real possibility the only reason what you like works is because of that which you don't like.

Well he also says using your own blood or willing participants is not a big deal, usually its a crime when the participant is unwilling. I was focusing on their methods of control, because mages do get back home once their education is complete.

Considering that my mage Inquisitor and her mage allies helped to save the world without turning into abominations, I think mages deserve a shot at governing thenselves. I think there should be some level of supervision, but nothing like it was before with tenplars in control. The templars may still be necessary to investigate and handle any problems that arise, but their scope should be very limited.

no, I agree... i just thought i would point that out. Them essentially turning into mage cops wouldn't be too bad, but as long as the seekers exist, I see no need for the Templars to exist.

I believe thats the only way people sleep easy , at least for the first few years this system is in place , there is no way most people are going to be comfortable knowing that their neighbor is a mage rightfully or wrongfully.

Ah true.  And yeah, I think that if a mage completes their education they should be allowed to come and go, or go back home, though I think them remaining a part of a mage institution of some kind is a good idea.

No it has nothing to with my liking. Mages in the south know quite well that they cannot have titles or lands, many just want to live their life in harmony with everyone else on Thedas. That will remain unchanged. With a system similar to Tevinter where a skilled and respected mage such as Wynne is head of a college and mages follow her orders. Remember that the college was always based on votes just like the chantry, esteemed mages choose their own leaders.

It didn't so much fail so much as was made to fail. People behind the scenes put motions into place that forced the templars (and mages) into action. People like Fiona and Adrian, but nobody is at more fault than Divine Justinia. She forced Lambert's hand, even after Fiona's idiocy and Adrian's callous scheming, there was a chance that nothing would happen. Justinia put an end to that.
