All I know is that anyone who thinks the perceived problem will be solved by making every LI playersexual wasn't around for the DA2 arguments about playersexual characters. If Dorian were playersexual his characterization would suffer heavily. And I would be annoyed at having another angsty mage LI.

read my post....I specified that and v decried the mentality of complaining about the characters being hero-sexual

This whole issue strikes me as bizarre since I know that the majority of players make character of both genders and do gay, straight and bi romances. This includes straight males, most of whom appear to have no problem with doing so. I mean, it's no different than going to a movie with a female protagonist and from what I've heard, there are quite a few straight guys who routinely play female character for....reasons. (Booty reasons ;) ) I don't think I've ever heard one of those guys saying that he was skipping content.

I especially don't ret it when I routinely play male character while being female. I really enjoyed the Cassandra romance.

That punishes those who are interested in another set of perspectives

Perhaps characters who aren't Andrastian could also be beneficial to exploring new perspectives, since it would be nice to explore some of the interesting cultures that inhabit Thedas through the viewpoint of a character who our character can befriend or romance.

The only people with legitimate complaints about romance options in Bioware games are dwarves (or dwarf players who are really annoyed for rp reasons). Solidarity with my dwarf playing brothers and sisters.  One day Varric will learn the error of his ways, and Scout Harding will stop being such a tease.

Otherwise you've got options. Two is the exact number of straight male romance options in DA:O and DA2 (and for that matter Mass Effect). In each case at least one character was bi-sexual. I don't understand why the alarm bells are suddenly ringing with this game.

Exactly my thoughts as well, I don't get it. Well I do actually, but I don't like it. These reactions are happening because people are upset that there are more LI choices for female players. Nothing to do with there actually being limited options, since it's the same amount of options there has always been otherwise.

No, for female *characters*, not players. There are as many LIs for male *players* as for female . As in all of them.

Why are "straight males" attacked whenever they express an opinion on these forums?

Why is this allowed?

What is wrong with everyone?

Double standards.

It's 'racist/misogynist/ignorant/whatever' if a 'straight white male' (which is just a generalization) complains, and they try to make petulant excuses for their power.

Whenever someone else does it, it's meaningful criticism of the white patriarchy who try to keep everyone else down.

As a straight white male, I'm not trying to keep anyone down. I'm just acknowledging that some people who think I am believe that they now have a right to be more equal than me.

Lol can't say I sympathize for the OP receiving vitriol. He/she asks a painfully obvious question with a thread title that implies less than satisfactory feelings about the romance (keyword: limited).

OP should not be surprised people assumed he/she was complaining about something that hardly deserves complaint - that is, the quantity of romances (the quality of them is another discussion).

To reiterate the reasons of  why this doesn't deserve complaint, atleast in my humble opinion: All of the previous male DA protagonists have had atleast two fem romances. DA:I didn't stray from that. Why is this anymore "limiting?". So what if female IQ's have more options? It's not any indication of some sinister agenda to oust male players. There are already so many games where you can play as a man banging women. If there were to be any game where the balance was tipped in reverse for once (and by accident in this case, since Solas/Cullen were added last minute) it would be a Bioware game. They always had a particularly visible female fan base.

You might as well make a thread asking "Has anyone noticed that the Witcher's Gerault has no male romances? Like wut? Witcher romance so limiting wow" and see how that goes

Hey, sport. This is a video game. This is not about "rights" or equality. This is about what you are personally enjoying/not enjoying in your leisure time. Don't make this more than it is. If you don't like the available romances then your right as a consumer is to not buy games from Bioware anymore because, guess what? There's going to be gay/bi relationships in near-equal proportion to straight relationships. Now you know, and now you can make an informed consumer decision. And that, my friend, is the limitation of your "rights" in this matter.

Cassandra and Dorian are also the best romances in the game.

Naah. People are just tired of what many of these white straight male gamers company their complains with. I would have no problem if people were just genuinely sad that some character are gated from them (=Sera) or they aren't attracted to their options. But when it goes to sexist comments on how ugly Cassandra and Josie are, how unsexy they are, how they don't want to romance character who is bisexual (there is some like this, they only romance straight female characters), how entitled they are to get more than anyone, how they simply regard that lesbian and gay PC has same options than them, how they make these "homosexual agenda" threads..

There is nothing unfair in. getting less options in one game. If this was repeating patter like it's usually is for straight female/gay/lesbian PC's then it'd be unfair but luckily that's not case in DA series unlike it is in most games. At least you got 2 sure options to choose form, same can't be said on notorious ME3 straight female romances. And even more unfair is that there is no gay LI until ME3.

It's like Inception. Like there's a troll somewhere hacking into the minds of these folks to get them to post about the same topic repeatedly. Oh and in b4 the inevitable lock.

it's 13 pages long...m unless someone spazzes out it's not going to get locked. Given the quantity of similar complaints then maybe SOME people at Bioware feel that it's worthwhile to listen

If someone is indeed listening, I'd like to congratulate the writers on crafting some wonderfully entertaining characters and apologise on behalf of those who would publicly bemoan the romantic (un)availability of any one of them.

No doubt about it: Gaider and his team did a brilliant job with the cast of Inquisition. Thanks and well done!

Naah these threads are always locked eventually. Mods are just little slow at the moment, they let some threads live little longer. Females everywhere thread got over 70 pages before it was locked although most of that was off-topic (it was fun though :P).

I'm not saying this is about rights or equality. Plenty of other people did. In fact, I said nothing about rights or equality or how I felt. All I'm saying is that I'm noticing a double standard from the SJW/LGBT audience in how they react and interact with people who post different opinions to them. I'm making no statement on how I feel on the issue, and indeed, I'm really refraining from making an stance. As I've tried to explain, I'm just calling out a double standard that exists where the ideology and feedback of some people is attacked because of what's in the content of their message rather than the intent of their meaning, which is functionally similar to what everyone else (who aren't getting attacked) is saying.

I can't help but feel you're shoe-horning an opinion onto me, just so you can be apprehensive towards it (or being intentionally misrepresentative of my point). I'll clarify my statement again, this time with more bluntness:

Some people give critique, complaints, or feedback on the games, they're attacked. Others do the same exact thing (altering only the content of their message), and they're hailed as a righteous crusader (or more likely some much less grandiose but still appreciative value). A double standard exists, and people here are indulging in it.

Yeah, and this is the umpteenth time a thread about this subject's been brought up. I definitely don't think they're going to let this one carry on too long. Maybe they liked the recipes in the other one after everything went to the Fade.

You've spent multiple pages on this thread whinging that straight men get the shortest end of the stick, when they have the exact same number of options as gay women and gay men - two. You implied that straight men had it the worse in terms of "exclusivity" because there's only one straight woman (as if a bisexual romance LI is somehow less satisfying), completely ignoring that there's also only one gale male and one lesbian.

Are you too self-absorbed to count things that don't concern you or are you simply convinced that being a straight guy automatically entitles you to more than what anyone else has, and anyone who says otherwise is trying to be "more equal" (pardon me while I facepalm that bit)? Or perhaps this is all just a poor attempt at trolling, which would give me some hope that this thread isn't as ridiculous as it reads.
