You'll probably get varying definitions, but to me, the difference is that gender has no bearing on whether or not I'm attracted to someone in the slightest. For a bi person, it would matter, but they're attracted to multiple genders (potentially in different ways/for different reasons).

Sounds more like a simple preference to me. I don't really consider trans people of some separate gender classification.
But anyway, that explains things. After seeing it on tumblr, for the longest I thought it meant they liked almost everything, lol.

Neither of those proves women's bodies are innately more attractive, it only attempts to explain why more priority is placed on attractiveness in a woman. Nor does it explain how and why 'preferred' looks and body types/shapes have varied so wildly across time and space. A 15-year-old size zero body is probably less physically fit to carry and bear a child than a size 10 twenty-five-year-old, for example. In Renaissance Italy, the fashion was for women to pluck the hairs on their forehead. Today that would look to us like a woman was balding. In the 1920s the fashion was for women to have very slim, boyish figures with flat chests and narrow hips, and women who fit that mould were feted as attractive. Other times, hourglass or pear shapes have been sought after. Even today, people's tastes about what constitutes a beautiful or the most beautiful woman can vary widely.
How healthy a person is perceived to look, consciously or unconsciously, does play a role in attraction, but it is not the only factor. Evolutionary psychology is largely speculation in any case.
As for older women, since most human interaction is not undertaken with the express intention of producing a child as a result, there is no earthly reason why older women (or anyone else) should be shown less. People aren't just commodities, and women aren't worthless once they go through menopause.
You're right people are not just commodities and that there is more to us than a set of primal urges but these things still heavily influence our culture. Little naggings that make us eat the chocolate cake or smoke the cigarrete when the rational mind knows it's not good for us or become overly focused on cleavage.
The size zero model is a fashion industry thing, it is heavily influenced by gay tastes and it's why it's one of the places that is more likely to have overly sexualized men in adverts, few people find size zero attractive, it is unhealthy although unlike obesity it's harder to tell with clothes on, the almost universal traits that are appealing in a woman are wide hips, large breasts, slim waste, smooth features, small nose and a few others I can't remember.
What society does is not always a good indicator of what is appealing, for instance the modern call for models who aren't as ideal so that some don't feel as bad.

Right? If gay males are creating an ideal image in the modeling industry based on their preferences, why do male models all look skinny and sickly but gay porn models look muscular and ripped? So, a woman's appeal is based on how fertile she looks. And the fashion industry is crazy because of the gays.
Cool story bro.
I've always assumed the fashion industry wants skinny models because they view them as little more than hangers. Not saying that makes it right or that it doesn't lead to issues in how women view themselves. Just saying that I thought that the skinny model thing was grounded in practicality, not that gay guys think skinny ladies are prettier.

I've been thinking about that too! Not to mention that men's fashion would be so much more interesting if the gays actually ruled everything.
Yeah, I think it's all about how the runway models are props to showcase the clothes. The models used in real advertising are usually skinny, but they're not THAT skinny.

Gay for pay? Yep. Still, outside of twink, bear, and daddy porn, the average gay porn guy is pretty muscular. So are the guys in gay-focused ads. Not really 'fashion model' skinny at all.

Yeah, that's my point. If 'fashion model skinny' was an ideal for gay guys, then we'd see similar guys in gay porn and gay advertising. But we don't. We see muscle hunks and gym bunnies for the most part. So I don't think that skinny models are because gay guys find them to be the attractive ideal, so much as skinny models are effectively living hangers.

Okay most of this thread is pretty repulsive, picking apart women's bodies as if they were a commodity...

Can we not shame people of any size, please. Size 0 person can be as beautiful as size 12 or size 22 person. Size 12 person is probably the healthiest "by the books" but all three can also currently be leading healthy, productive, happy lives, too.

The actors are cast so that they will appeal to gay men. I would think that's obvious...

Yeah, this is what I meant by that. It doesn't matter if the guy is straight or gay or anything in between (or outside). If there's a particular body type that is being cast dominantly in gay porn, then it's likely that this is the type that is found to be attractive by a large portion of that demographic. Big hunky muscular guys are what sells in the gay community (generalization), so it's unlikely that fashion models are skinny because of a gay ideal. That was more of my point.

This! Besides, size is only a number. My sister and I have the same size (which is awesome because I get to loot her wardrobe), and we have very different body types.

Yeah and bara / gei comi (gay comics for men) are distinct from BL manga (m/m romance comics for women) in that the characters are muscular and very macho-looking.
