Meh.  I just report what I hear.

I feel pretty fortunate that I didn't have to deal with this personally.  I had a rough enough time growing up gay and that's as a biological male who identifies as a male.  I couldn't imagine what it would be like to feel as if my gender identity didn't match my biological sex.  I can only go by what I hear from others who have experienced it first hand.

I just mean the terms themselves.  It feels like you can spin a wheel full of random Latin and Greek prefixes, append the word "sexual" to it, and you have a 100% chance of hitting something that has no less than four Tumblrs dedicated to it already.

Yeah, I'm still not 100% sure that I can explain demisexuality.  It involves a romantic attraction continuum and I'm not sure if I totally get it still, even after having numerous dialogues here about it.

Oh don't worry, I don't judge you for it, lol. Can't blame the messenger. But man, just when you think you've heard everything, tumblr or bioware shows you otherwise. Interesting place, these forums.

I think that, for the purposes of the game, bisexual and pansexual plays out the same way since the game doesn't allow you to be explicitly trans, gender fluid, or genderqueer.

Well I guess that's one good thing about the inquisitor being almost as much of a lifeless lump as the Warden lol Lots of room for headcanoning that the game doesn't squash. I am currently playing a dwarf who is attracted to men but does not gender identify; i.e. does not consider herself a man or a woman. Is fine with the female pronouns because that's what's been used all her life. So right basically myself :D

Although I think once Blackwall starts doing all the "my lady" stuff it will turn both her and me off; I wonder if I'll get a chance to ask him not to call me that. Probably not.

Now there's people that don't identify as male or female? What are they, dragons? I've heard of otherkin, lol, and that was a hoot to deal with. Never anyone that didn't identify with male or female. That's not even possible... there's only two options, the red pill or the blue pill, LOL. You can pick one, the other, or both, but neither?

Morpheus is confused.

agenders (people who don't identify as any gender), also known as genderless, nongendered etc, aren't that much different from asexuals in that just as asexuals don't have sexual feelings, agenders just....don't fully identify with the traditional male/female identity.  there are more than just 2 gender identities, something not a lot of people realise.  in addition to the male, female and agender identities, if you imagine that male and female are on complete opposite sides of the gender spectrum, you have a whole range of gender identities inbetween, which would include genderqueer or non-binary identities, which are more like umbrella terms for those who do not identify as cisgender.  agender lies completely out of that spectrum.

i, myself, still find all the terms confusing, but i tried to make my explanation as simple as possible.  i'm not very good at explaining though >___<

Why is it so hard to understand? You don't get turned on unless you really know the person. Like a demisexual person would not enjoy a hook-up. *whispers* I can personally attest to this lol

i understand the concept itself, but I get confused when some people say that it's a sexuality (like, heterosexual, homosexual, demisexual) and others say that you can be both heterosexual and demisexual -- heterodemisexual, I think).  And both are coming from demisexual people and I don't know which to go with.  That's the stuff that I find confusing.  When there's conflicting ideas coming from people who identify as such and I want to understand better and can't.  I just leave it with "Well, I guess it's different for different people", but that doesn't feel satisfying because I'm a know it all and want to know it all!

This is pretty much my thoughts as well. I get what demisexuality is, it's not that complicated. But if you're only attracted to someone after you get to know them well but still consider yourself to be heterosexual as well, idk it kind of implies that you have a basic attraction towards the other sex. It's confusing, but I don't really need to understand it. I'll let everyone else define themselves and respect that. So if someone wants to call themselves a heterodemisexual, who am I to argue?

Yeah that is my take on all the terms and what not. They help some people figure themselves out... make you feel comfortable about who you are, perhaps for the first time in your whole life. Of course, terms can be limiting, too.

I believe most of these terms are an effort to escape these artificial binaries (male/female, straight/gay, etc.)

What's artificial about male and female? Gay and straight?

Oh for the love of everything that is holy.

Sexism is a serious issue, and it's something that harms both men and women. Saying that we shouldn't care about how women are represented in our media because men are overrepresented among the nameless npc's you kill isn't helpful. It's two very different kinds of objectification with different problems associated with them. So please stop this whole "my issue is more important than yours" crap, they're both important but they are different discussions.

Yeah, It's these kinds of arguments is why the Sexism debate in Video Games often goes nowhere.

I don't care what people call themselves, or what they do in their free time, I'm just more than a little annoyed that there's an unwritten expectation that I'm supposed to keep up with all these new definitions or some people will think I'm an insensitive lout.

Lol I wish someone would try to hold me to that expectation. tbh, you'd need to take a whole class just to understand the mentality of people living with some of these classifications.

I asked to sate my curiosity, but there is just entirely way too many labels for anyone to reasonably be able to address all these people the way they want, especially if you throw in the non gender specific pronouns people made up...

Like instead of she, it was zhe or some ****. When you start making up words that don't exist, that's when I start tuning out, tbh.

Yup.  Labels are great most of the time, they are a wonderful tool when communicating. That being said, the terms are artificial and will never encompass every single individual or be a perfect fit for everyone. But as fringe as some might find some of the terms, they're a helluva lot better than just saying straight/gay/bi or male/female/trans.

It's just a pity we have to use them at all. It really shouldn't matter who you are or how you choose to define yourself. But the fact that we have these discussions is a step in the right direction.

Yea, there's way too many out there. I'll stick to only believing in Hetersexual, Asexual, Homosexual, Bisexual, and Tran-gender.

i agree....at this point, i don't even know what sexuality label i fall under myself.  i settled for just calling "i'll like who i'll like."

i do agree that adding more gender pronouns can be confusing, but hey, if someone wants a special pronoun, that's their choice.  to each their own.  personally, i prefer they/their or just she/her, since it's just simpler that way.  as long as i'm not referred to as 'it', it's all good :D

This I sort of agree with. You shouldn't get your head chopped of if you make an honest mistake. On the other hand, I have no respect for those who knowingly use the wrong term about someone. Like referring to Krem as a female. He is male, what he has or hasn't got in his pants is irrelevant.

From how it was explained to me, if one was to make a sexuality graph demisexuality is not on the same axis as just heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, pansexuality, etc. Those would be on say the x axis. Meanwhile the y axis consists of asexuality, demisexuality, and verisexuality(I was told this is what the 'regular' sexuality is called). So with these two axes set up, everything else falls into a spectrum between the columns and that's how you get things like ahomosexual, demiheterosexual, etc.

So both people are right, just one is referring to the column while the other is referring to the spectrum.

It annoys me to no end that this is even a thing, but I do agree there's no need to purposefully antagonize. I try to stick to just saying Krem because I don't agree with that, but I do slip up quite a bit, because this is alien to me. Not the understanding of it. I get it.... that sort of thing would NEVER fly here in the south, though. Not in your life.

But it's kind of like when teachers at school ask if you have a nickname and people respect the nickname.
