Bartrand brought Red Lyrium into the world, not Varric. That was a pretty huge plot point in DA2, actually.

And even pretending Varric did bring the idol back with him- how was he supposed to know it was bad? Bianca was well aware of how horrible the stuff was when she decided to look into it.

Even if we don't blame Varric, he blames himself. I just keep wanting to hug him.

I didn't have any issues with Bianca. I wasn't at all miffed by the threat, finding sweet she cared so much for Varric. Enjoyed meeting the woman behind the crossbow name, and seeing her and Varric together.

It amuses me how many alpha personality types in this thread are frothing at the mouth because a character in a video game threatened them and they can't respond to it!
That's actually more acceptable if you're just salty that Varric would rather be Bianca's side dish than your main course. :D

Isabella threatened Hawke when he got together with Merril and I never started a thread about how pissed I was.  Because I knew Bianca and Isabella meant well.  OP prolly doesn't understand context.

Yes, I find threatening my husband's co-workers that I will scoop out their eyeballs always lends that je ne sais quoi to any company picnic.

When the police arrive, I always tell them I meant it in a sweet and caring way, not a batsh!t crazy, psychopath way. It doesn't seem to help, though.

Considering on my Qunari where his head would be that would be awkward and I dont think Varric would enjoy it.

The threat doesn't bother me. It was along the spirit of look after him.

I do have a problem with Bianca leading Varric along but he's an adult. I do have a problem with her attitude in general.

Oh god yeah I had Larius too.

Who would trust someone that looks like he did? O_o

Someone that probably is just as "intelligent" as Branka

Really, who would not feel secure with him?

I found her to be a cool enough character that I get why Varric hasn't been able to move on, despite the fact that he desperately needs to.

The threat didn't bother me too much - I get that it was said because she cared. And on my female dwarf playthrough, who would have swept Varric off his feet if the game let me, I played it off that she was (rightly) threatened by how much more awesome my character was compared to her.

Well, if your husband and his co-workers were all part of an elite military squad that was seeing combat on a daily basis, you hadn't seen him in over 10 years, you had only just met his squadmates, and and he was about to leave again for an undetermined amount of time, I think you might be a bit more passionate in your demands that his commanding officer keep him safe, if not using the exact wording Bianca did.

Maybe he wore a mask/hood, heck, maybe he talked with Corypheus' voice, which we know is as smooth as butter.

I don't particularly like her because I don't particularly know her, but they didn't seem to have an angsty relationship at all.  He loves her, she loves him, they get together when they can and when they can't they do their own thing.  Honestly, the whole star-crossed lovers angle is normally much more dramatic but it seems Varric is relatively content with the situation.  It's not like we catch the guy crying into his beer.

If he's fine with the situation who are we to wag our fingers?  He doesn't want to move on and he's fine with it.  If he were lonely/sad/adjective it'd be another matter, but outside of his regret at decisions made...he's a pretty chill dude.  It's kinda pathetic from an outsiders view, but whatever works for them.

Since my spouse used to be in the USMC and deployed to Iraq on multiple occasions, I actually might have more of an understanding of this than you.

If someone's wife/GF had threatened to scoop out someone's eyeballs we'd all think, "Are you a psychopath?" not "ha ha, how cute."

I wasn't saying it was cute. I was saying that I can understand where she's coming from.

I simply imagine that, unlike the situation of you and your spouse, she's not actually married to Varric. In fact, just being in the same general region as him risks a Carta clan war. She works for what is essentially an organized crime ring. Being a member of the Carta, she's likely used to both using and receiving threats to get things done, and she has very little she can do to assure the safety of Varric despite her feelings. Coupled with the fact that she clearly loves him but hasn't seen him in over a decade, I imagine there's a real, palpable sense of frustration and desperation that comes out in her character. I felt the threat conveyed that extremely well, despite the fact that for most Inquisitors, it was unnecessary.

Psychopath? Sure. Understandable? Absolutely.

Our modern society is much different than Thedas's. People in Thedas deal with violence - and the threat of violence - every single day. It's routine for them. Many of us rarely have to consider our own safety, so we're able to treat threats from others as something other than mundane.

Plus, she's surfacer/loosely connected with the Carta. So personal threats of violence are very much a normal thing to them.  That said, after pulling her and Varric's bacon out of the fire yet again, and we mostly let her off the hook for causing most of this mess, her first words to me are a threat?  I just kinda side-eye and go, "Ok, w/e lady."

If the threat is A-ok because Bianca's a Carta member, then why can't Cadash (who grew up in a Carta crime family) respond to the threat by basically going "Come at me bro" ? Would make sense due to his/her background, no? Or how about Adaar who's a mercenary? S/he should be just as comfortable with using threats and violence?

Bianca can make idiotic threats all she wants, that's fine. What's not fine is the Inquisitor standing there like an even bigger moron, unable to react one way or another. Especially when standing there slackjawed is way out of character for him/her.

I wish that the game had a Cole/Iron Bull option where you could help Varric decide whether he should stay stuck on mooning over Bianca and not getting on with his life, or to encourage him to stick with her. It would have been great if you then saw two sides of him as the fallout. If he cuts the connection, he becomes a competitor with Bull when it comes to bedding the ladies of Skyhold but also becomes more cynical and uncaring about the consequences. If he stays with her, he remains mopey and lovestruck but admits how devastating lonely he's been for all these years and how, though he loves her, he'll spend his life never getting to really be with her.

I would chose to help break them up though, cause she pissed the hell outta me.

So how far back are you willing to go? Is it Leandra's fault as well? She failed to convince Hawke to stay in Kirkwall, and the expedition would probably have failed without Hawke's involvement.

Nope. Just those four. Anders, Bartrand, Hawke, and Varric.

I haven't done the Bianca quest yet with my Cadash Inquisitor. I really wish there were Dwarf exclusive dialogue options in this quest.  Because you are right, a Carta dwarf wouldn't take that **** lightly.  Lmao.

"Bianca dear, you see these painstakingly crafted dragon bone daggers on my back? How bout I pluck out *your* eyes and feed them to *you*?"

Know what difference is with Isa and Bianca? Isa is your crew, she is your party, works with you and is your friend who made this "joke".

Bianca you meet only once, she uses you to fix her mess, later tells you truth she is reason how Cory got red lyrium, she doesn't feel sorry one bit and goes with card "Well it's fixed now so what" like her mess never did any harm or is still doing harm and then a person you wish to "punch" in their face makes this "joke".

Now that is main difference! Because Isabela never made such joke after she betrayed you, hell she even stayed out of Hawke's sight for 3 years drinking alone for what she is done, she had enough face to not show up infront of Hawke after what she is done while Bianca has enough face to even ask "so what" after your discover her mess.So now compare two and two and see that beside "selfish" part they have nothing in common.

If I had to compare Bianca with someone I would compare her to both Anders who is most like her and Talis as well.

I wouldn't consider someone who threatens to castrate you a friend. Merrill's friend yes since she is protecting her, but not you.

Isabela is only a friend when she returns with the book and during Act 3. Before that, she is not a friend.

I think what's irksome about Bianca's threat, is that you the protagonist have been fighting by Varric's side and protecting him this whole time. If Varric is killed by a red Templar powered by red lyrium that she supplied, is she really going to come back and attack the inquisitor?

Point was Isa wasn't person that you wanted to punch in face for messing whole thing up...at least at that time! Plus you knew Isa for years.

Bianca is random stranger that messes everything up,admits it and doesn't bother with "real sorry" part and as I already said countless times she goes with "Now it's fixed so what" like her mess never did or is still doing any harm. Now that kind of person makes that "joke" when all you want is to punch her in face.

And as someone in here already mentioned,we get to judge guy who threw ram at Inquisition but we don't get to judge Bianca who messed things up like she did...hell we even judge dead Florianne but not living Bianca.

It comes out of nowhere and it isn't said in a joking way. A part of me feels that the writers were trying to make Bianca somehow seem badass or funny or TEH AWEsomeSAUCE!11! but it just serves to do nothing but annoy me.

Yeah, the comparison between Bianca's threat and Isabela/Leliana's is way off. Bianca's threat is more like if Donnic threatened Hawke after he married Aveline. But Donnic is too awesome for that kind of stupidity.

Btw, I don't get how it's "cute" to make threats like that. If my partner threatened my colleagues or friends like that, then I would be seriously freaked out. It's not romantic, it's creepy in a "s/he's a psychopath" kinda way.

I kinda equate Bianca's threats with Blackwall's speeches about honor and doing the right thing.  "Really guys? You don't get to say that kind of thing to me."

Also, I can imagine how that scenario would have played had Hawke been there, someone who has been fighting and bleeding by Varric's side for 10 years.  Snarky!Hawke would most definitely call Bianca on her BS.
