The Warden was more or less forced to become a recruit, Hawke had more of 'I'm the only competent person in this crazy arse city', and even Shepard had more of a 'it's my job and someone has to do it because i'm military feel'.

The only problem I've ever had with the Inquisitor is that, up until Skyhold, when the role of leadership is more or less thrust upon you, you had nothing really tying you to the Inquisition.

Granted, there's the memory loss thing, and the Herald of Andraste thing, and the anchor, and the Breach, but even Cassandra and Leliana say you can go if you want (Though they imply that it will be too dangerous for you to do so). Perhaps there should've been more of a personal stake in the holding.

I agree, it would have been nice to have more of a personal reason to be there doing all their damn busywork. Instead you just have to go on "I just wanna help" headcanon which isn't enough for me to be running around for these people. It's a shame that the Inquisitor doesn't seem to have a personal story at all. My Warden wanted to stop the Blight but he also wanted revenge on Howe and the Wardens were his best shot. Hawke had his family to look after. But why is the IQ doing everything he's doing before Skyhold. He's just some mook with an anchor to close the rifts and everybody needs him to speak for their God. I can at least headcanon a reason for the Human IQ but why wouldn't a Dalish IQ go back to check up on his clan and seal the rifts so they can travel and still Leliana to contact them when they've gathered their mages or templars. Why would a Qunari care or a Dwarf? It reminds me of the wartable mission where a Dwarf says "Oh so there's a hole in your precious sky."

I do want to keep playing the IQ though and hopefully get to know him better than what was given to me in DAI.

Thats the basic hope. Not only that the inquisitor can grow into a more rounded person and capable leader, but get a few more crowning moments of awesome.

(Oh and the point about the cousland revenge plot is an excellent one - that added so much to my game. Its why it makes it so hard to choose an amell as my canon playthrough as he doesnt have that incredible side story woven into the main plot. Having a cousland behead loghain for his part in your families murder felt awesome!)

I will concede this though: making Erimond tranquil as the inquisitor was GREAT. Especially as a mage, and how the first reaction you see is other pissant mages going "HAOW CUD U!?!!?!111! :("
