Install seemed to go fine. However, when I tried to play, have received an error message "d3dx10_39.dll is missing". I am running Windows 7 Home Prem. OS. Help.

I don't want to uninstall because I've redeemed Cerberus Network code and I don't want it invalidated somehow.

For Support, I forgot to mention, my computer is 4 months old with an i7 quad core chip and GTX 285 Nvidia card. Plenty of disk space. I should meet or exceed all specs.

Something i always try is reinstalling drivers...

a bit of work, but seems to work rather well for such problems (for me). just make sure you use a driver cleaner every time you update GPU drivers. Every. Single. Time.

At least doing this fixed it for me :)

Had this same issue, figured out the solution. Disclaimer: "Solution" in reference to having solved the problem for _me_. (And as a note: Vista 64bit, E6600 Core2, 280gtx, 6gb ram, etc.)
Anyway.

1) Go to your "My Computer" or whatever you have it labeled as.
2) Right-click the disk drive with your ME2 disk (I had swapped to disk 1 at this point, so that may be something to consider), click "Explore" (for Vista/7, I think XP is still "Open" or something) to get into the disk's directory system.
3) Go into the folder labeled "DirectX".
4) Locate the file: DXSETUP.EXE and run it.

It may be silly...but the installer, _after you have installed the game_ removes the option of "Install DirectX" and it apparently isn't savvy enough to figure out that you needed to do that.
Again, it fixed the problem for me and got the game to actually load up. Now I have to fight with my Firewall for EA's account silliness...

*edit* Apparently semi-scooped. Ah well.

Regardless, my computer crashes whenever I try and install directx9.0c, using an updater or the install from the ME2 disk....
So I just wasted $60 on this game and I ca't even play it because of DirectX:(

Manually install the Directx from 2nd CD.

Update:

While trying to update the DirectX it stops at 1.0.2909.0/Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3Dx

Then it hangs my computer......

This sounds like an issue with the operating system, not Mass Effect 2.  Contact your computer manufacturer or attempt to restore the PC to factory condition yourself if you feel confident (remember to backup your data first)

Good luck

Well called them, nothing Dell can do considering it is a DirectX problem. I have looked up every single fix possible and none of them work. I hang whenever it tries to copy 1.2909.Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3DX

*** Possible Solution ***

My problem is solved. Let me retrace my steps for some others. When I installed ME2, I cancelled the install of their DirectX. I recently upgraded my system to Windows 7 64 and it contained DirectX 11. I was afraid what Bioware was going to install. I tried Syriquez’s idea, but my system had 5 different DirectX setup files including “64” and “64x”. I did not know which one to use. So, I took Dman1191’s advice and installed DirectX from ME2’s second disk. It took longer than 5 minutes. I left and come back 15 minutes later. Whatever it loaded worked. The game came up and loaded. Very nice. And, my computer says it still has “DirectX 11”. So, thanks Dman1191, I appreciate the help.

Does anyone have any ideas at all?

I mean it's been 5 hours since I got the game and it's still the same damn error...
