So, I'm building my mage around the elemental talent trees. I had figured, why muck around with specializations on my first run-through of the game when there's so much awesomeness to be explored in the regular trees? I like to keep two mages in the group. So... At level 17, my build looks something like this:
Spirit
Barrier+
Storm
Energy Barrage
Chain Lightning+
Gathering Storm
Stormbringer
Static Cage+
Inferno
Immolate
Flashpoint
Pyromancer
Fire Mine+
Winter
Winter's Grasp+
Winter Stillness
The build itself works well as a high damage, high risk mage build. There are a few lines of defense in there, however. Static Cage and Fire Mine... *giggle* I'm taking my time with the game, trying to do everything, explore everywhere. I'm level 17 and I'm nowhere near doing Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts yet.
I like having Solas in the group because of my own personal biases. What would be a good build for him, given my inquisitor's tendency towards AoE damage output? I'm obviously going to use his Rift Mage stuff. My main concern is whether or not I should bother with both sides of the Rift Mage tree for him. I'm inclined to only focus on the right side (Stonefist, etc.)
Right now I have his Rift Mage abilities maxed out, except the focus skill, and I've gone down the left side of the Spirit tree to get Revival and Rejuvenating Barrier. I'm thinking of maybe doing away with the left side of his Rift Mage tree and putting those points in Winter or something.
