I'm not going to tell anyone to play anything, but I played through DA2 three or four times and loved it.
Should I have played DA2?

Just read the wiki for DA2, probably a better experience than actually suffering through the game.

I have to say that the DA2 hate is completely unfounded. Aside from recycled maps, everything in it is superior to DA:I. If you enjoy Bioware games for the ability to shape your main character, DA:2 is by far the best. DA:I may be large, but it's also empty and without personality.

The question you should be asking is: why not? The money really shouldn't be an issue. Given that the opinions about DA2 on the BSN are so varied (some love it, some hate it, some think it's a bit meh), you'll never be able to decide based on what anyone here says. So why not try it for yourself?
In my opinion, it was a great and truly memorable game, albeit quite a bit unfinished (low-budget, extremely short development time). But don't pay attention to my opinion - go out and form your own!

Well if you've played Mass Effect 2 then technically you've played a better version of DA2 since that's what BiowarEA tried to make DA2.
