Is there any way to get around this bug? Where you have killed all the enemies in a zone, but do not receive a key so cannot advance. I've always ended up quitting, but maybe there is some dumb way to get around this bug.
It was a fairly rare bug, but I've ran into it on three occasions today. Very frustrating.
Yes there is a simple fix to it. You delete the pos dlc.

The trigger is not conclusively blamed on just the Elementalists as a class,
but the combination of Firestorm and Dogs (Wolves/Hyenas) seems to be asking for trouble.
We know a patch is inbound ('Soon' TM) but in the meantime:
These are not perfect solutions but may reduce glitch occurrence to tolerable levels.
Yes you could uninstall the DLC - I'm not going to mess about with that as a patch is coming...

You simply delete or move the DLC folder out of the Update folder to play without the DLC. If you want to play with the DLC again, you move the folder back. You act as if the process could mess the game up technically.

That's an unrelated glitch.
I've watched the other 3 party members jumping around, hitting boxes, pumping magic at the ground, for several minutes now, to no effect.
I thought it made most sense for the host to graciously and promptly back out.

Not in my experience, no. xD
Sometimes you'll get lucky and it's a creature that bugged and you can find it on the map somewhere and pump damage into it until it dies (but I've had giants and gibbering horrors that just refused to go down)...but more often than not the level just needs to be reset, seems like. I will agree that it does seem to be an issue with specific maps, though, as I've had it enough times on a couple of paths that I just go 'Oh no, not this again' when we enter the level.
I say delete it and have your friends delete it. On the Trashbox One, I have had it bug out and not even load the dlc, therefore I couldn't connect to my friends games but I could still connect to plenty of randoms, so deleting the dlc shouldn't mean you won't be able to find public matches if you don't have friends to play with.
The Trashbox did it to me when I went to play Destiny last night and my friends and I finally sat down and figured out how to remove dlc and reinstall it (when/if you want to reinstall it) on the Xbox *cough* *trashbox* One, I can tell you how if need to know.
I too am getting this problem. The really sucky thing is there was issues with Archers 1 hitting your guard off, and taunt/aggro not working properly. The dlc fixed these, but then added this you can't complete the level bug. So either you delete the DLC and go back to the original bugs, or chance glitching out the entire level and not getting your xp.
I seem to get this bug primarily on the Tevinter Ruins. It is almost exclusively there for most of my runs that have key issues. The above tips are very good for getting around the issue though.
