I do want to do a second playthrough, to make different choices, have another romance, and try to get platinum. But since there is no new game plus and when I think of all the pointless side quests, of all the running around for nothing, etc., I just get turned off. Took me around 165 hours for my first playthrough and I certainly will not put in that much time again for a second playthrough.

I should have done my first playthrough in nightmare mode. Would have made it possible to just play on easy on my second playthrough for the story without having to worry about leveling up. But if I want to get that nightmare trophy, I would have to redo everything to gain levels.

Why isn't there a new game plus? Why must we redo all those pointless side quests and war missions? Bioware needs to put in a new game plus allowing you to keep you items, money, levels so that you can just concentrate on the story. Really, those side quests need only be done once.

I did my second playthrough on Nightmare for the plat, and it took me 65 hours. I was level 19 by the end of it and I romanced Cullen for the trophy. I skipped pretty much all side quests after doing enough of them in the Hinderlands for power. It's only hard in the Haven section, especially at the culmination of it, but after that you'll be fine.

Don't do the side quests. They're just filler. You get most of your power through closing rifts and finding camps anyway.

I like to do the main storyline of each area, maybe pick up some agents, maybe some companion quests. But the endless fetch quests? No, not again.

Choose the side-quests you desire; the ones that fit your character's goals, and skip the rest. Take Codex XP Bonus perks, explore more, skip areas of no interest, etc. The game does not control the RP; that is still controlled by the Player.

I rarely use New Game plus, for me the point of starting a new playthrough is to change something about the character I'm playing.

I enjoy starting a game again with the opportunity to play a new gender, race or class, which I can't do with New Game plus.

My first playthrough took me about 95 hours and I'm in the middle of my second. For my first playthrough I did pretty much everything, so now I know which quests I don't need to bother with, which ones are just an excuse to explore and which areas I don't need to spend much time in.

I still expect my second playthrough to be long though, I'm not rushing through the story.

I also will be doing certain quests based on the Inquisitor I'm RPing.

My Human Inquisitor was a Noble who wanted to help people, so she romanced Josephine and did everything people asked her to do.

My Qunari Inquisitor cares for people she knows, but she is very goal oriented, if you ask her to do something that won't help her ultimate goal, then suck it. She is currently falling for Sera because she makes her laugh.

I've got a female Dwarf playthrough to do next and then a male elf, each of those will do different quests depending on the personality I give them.

Sorry to hear that OP, that sucks. I kinda have the opposite problem - there are a bunch of different things I want to try that makes it hard to work which way to go in the next play:

Templar supporter human warrior
Human pro Andastrian
Knight Enchanter (human or elf)
Solas romance (as apparently it's excellent) which means female elf
Cassandra romance (as she's awesome)
Qunari warrior or mage that follows the Qun
Traditional dalish elf

Damn my stupid human rogue! I could've done half of this on the first playthrough and mopped up most of the rest with a female elf mage second! At this rate I'm going to end up spending half a year playing this game!

By the time this is over I may not have any friends left...

The game would have benefited from some ruthless editing. I think they could have lost at least half of the content and the game would have been better for it.

My problem is that I've started a second playthrough already but can't bring myself to finish it. I changed up a lot of what I could about the story environment, sided with a different faction and had a totally different DA Keep world import, and I'm even skipping much of the side content to focus on story. I don't know, I just don't find this particular playthrough as compelling as my first for some reason. Might just try to restart with a new Quizzie.

But yeah side content is definitely mostly a skip for me.

Just self edit. I ruined my first play of ME1 by going absolutely everywhere and doing everything. The story got lost amongst the hundred planets I explored for no good reason. After that playthrough I never visited more than a handful of side planets ever again.

And there's other people who like goofing around and doing the filler. Something for everyone.

I was motivated to do a second playthrough, but then played the last quarter of the game as an Elven Inquisitor who romanced Solas. It was so fitting and sad and beautiful that I can't bring myself to start another playthrough as another character. It feels like it will never measure up to what I experienced this playthrough.

They needed to edit during production. If they had cut some of the side questing, they might have been able to devote a bit more time to, oh... Corypheus, perhaps?

The OP played 165 hours and payed probably $60. Which means he payed something like 45 cents per hour played.
So even if he doesn't start a new game and never touches DAI again, I think that's a pretty good deal as far as entertainment value per buck goes.

Don't then. Nothing says that you have to.

I had no motivation to play again DA2 after I completed it once............so I didn't.

There's not something for people who appreciate a finely crafted, somewhat well-paced experience with a high concentration of good quality content.

It's fine if they want to be the McDonald's of gaming, and it's fine that that's what a lot of people seem to want, but I ain't gonna pretend they deserve a Michelin star for it. If they want one of those then they need to stop cluttering the plate up with ****. It's very much their job to do that, not mine to eat around it.

Imo Bioware should concentrate on quality rather than 'value' / hour count. Going for the latter doesn't play to their strengths at all. Every time they attempt any kind of padding content or try to rely heavily on the strength of their gameplay alone it is a failure. That's just not what they're good at.

My first play through was about 90 hours but I was kind of sick of the game so I skipped oasis and the big deseet zone entirely. I restarted twice now but keep taking breaks. The story loses steam after you reach skyhold.

I got 190 hours total out of the game so not too bad for the money spent. I think I got the same out of DAO and DA2. I only finished DAO once in its entirety and got bored part-way through Orzammar on my 2nd and 3rd attempts. I finished DA2 twice in its entirety as the game was shorter and didn't have any content long enough that I would be bored mid-way. I have a third game started as a mage but I miss Bethany so I dropped it.

DA2 and ME3 so far are the only BioWare games I think I will finish more than once.

This was my feeling after ME3, but for different reasons. I didn't touch the franchise for over a year.

I don't get this at all. I played DAO several times and played the hell out of ME and ME2, though I admit the missions get boring once you've been through them a few times. That's why it's good to stop for awhile and go back to it. I started a 2nd play of DA2 and ME3 but never finished. I barely got into the 2nd ME3 before I didn't feel like bothering. The end was that bad.

I wish the choices mattered a lot more in this game because that is what makes replaying the game feel like a new game, out of all the dragon age games the choices in this one matter the least i think, unless im missing something. I like the game but i feel like im done with it, where as i replayed the crap out of the others. unless they fix the banter bug im done i believe.

Or you can combine some of them:

Pro Templar Andrastian warrior human who romances Cass (I mean you already get a high approval from her with these choises)

Elf Knight Enchater who romances Solas (he likes Knight Enchaters and Rift Mages *wink*)

You get all the exclusive content and you don't need to playthrough the filler as many times as you should if doing them all separately, so you won't get bored. Win win I say

I hear what you're saying OP. I really was not fond of the game on my first play through at launch, decided to give it a go again to see if time had mellowed my frustrations with the game. I'm up to the point of recruiting Sera, and can without a shadow of a doubt say DAI is just not the game I was hoping it was going to be.

The characters are cool, especially Cass, Sera, and Solas, but my frustrations with story, and certain game systems just make me meh. I like the world, lore, and characters in the DA series, this game though it's just not my cup of tea.

There is no point to do another playthrough, nothing changes game/story wise. Choices are not actual choices and different romance do not bring enough content since they do not affect the story itself.

Are there not two divergent paths you can take?

This games needs a way to expedite the War Table Missions seriously no bonus/filler mission should take 13 Hours to finish and theres a few long ones there should have been a way like spend 5 Power to make a 13 Hour Mission into a 13 Minute one.

Gameplay wise the change is so minimal that there is no need to bother.
