(Just note, I don't mean this for the enemy for DA4, just speculation for the future.)
So, I was just mulling over some of the old information with new revelations from Inquisition and thought about a new villain or threat that brings some things together.
What has been told:
-A Circle First Enchanter was able to use the blight for his magic without being a Warden and was able to enchant pendants and a dagger to accelerate the blight or repel it.
-The Architect was able to accelerate the blight past the normal Calling period for the Wardens which turned them into something like a hybrid (not quite human/dwarf anymore, but not fully darkspawn).
-The darkspawn are able to live for a long time, being sustained by the blight, as is seen with the Ancient Darkspawn and Cory.
-New creatures are able to be spawned from the blight, as is seen with the Children.
-There have been cults surrounding the darkspawn and the blight.
What Inquisition has shown:
-The blight is even infecting lyrium, which is supposedly the physical manifestation of the Fade in Thedas.
-There are the Promisers, people who seek to end the world. Not connected to the blight, but just showing that there are people like this, seeking to create a new world from the ashes of the current one.
-Raw red lyrium will make people crazy moreso than normal lyrium, but it can still be refined and used for more power, even by the Inquisition with its corruption runes.
So, I was thinking that with the chaos that has happened, would it be so crazy a possibility that a Circle mage was able to figure out blight magic from either notes or tutelage of that First Enchanter that was before Irving in Fereldan, who was able to harness blight magic? That seeing the Fifth Blight and the Breach that this mage would sympathize with the cause of the Promisers and see that the blight is the new world? The mage would see that the blight is not just death, but a new life that is merely in opposition with the current world and the Fade.
This villain would be able to create the previously mentioned enchantments while mastering the blight magic, then possibly turn him/herself into a darkspawn hybrid thing like Utha. Then this Blightlord would seek others to follow and possibly change so that they can live in the new world, while seeing the darkspawn as a means to an end. Obviously, if the Architect is still alive, it/he would join as it fits its/his view and beliefs.
The reasoning for this group would be that there are two worlds at war, the current and the possible new one, and one has to choose which one to live in, the current chaotic one, or a clean slate, and that the Children show that the blight isn't just death, but a possible new way of life, possibly not even needing broodmothers in the future after the purpose of the darkspawn is complete. Whether that last part is possible I have no idea, obviously.
This group would almost be like the evil twin of the Grey Wardens, their version of the Promisers. Initiates having pendants that repel the blight until they go up the ranks (to avoid being a ghoul), then they go through their own joining, then given pendants to accelerate the taint, then later go through their own Calling ceremony where the new high ranking members are changed to their final form or whatever. They could possibly have long lifespans like the darkspawn and no longer need to eat.
I'm not entirely sure if this is possible with the lore, but it is just a thought I've been having and wanted to share.
Any thoughts? Anyone want to see blight magic looked into more? Isn't Blightlord a stupid title, what would you prefer?
I understand wanting other stuff focused on for DA4, maybe even a new Qunari Invasion, but this stuff could be for much later stuff, like DA6 or maybe just in the books. I would think their ultimate goal after spreading across Thedas would be to have a War on the Fade, where even it will fall. No more demons, no more gods, clean slate... or possible rise of the last two Old Gods...
(I know there is poor grammar and run on sentences in here, but it is late and don't feel like correcting anything, sorry if any English majors get a headache reading this.
