The post:

The whole Thedas thing is a tragedy and only now I see it. They want to tell stories about their world where we are something they want us to. Well, that is not that different from, let's say KOTOR or BG right? No, wrong. It is very different because now it is not George Lucas mythology, or Wizards of the Coast, it is THEIR world and their passion will drive them to do stupid things like making this game "for everyone".

Useless info:

My girlfriend never played a RPG game before. She loves Inquisition, I believe she played around 50 hours, yesterday she played like 10 hours. She doesn't know what each stat does, she doesn't need to. She doesn't even know what each skill does, there is no need too. It either, works or doesn't work, well in fact, it works, always work.

Why is DAI so awful? Well of course, the first point that comes to my mind is EA greed. But then, I'm sure Bioware writers want people to play their story. Not their game, their story. That's why they made a game so simple you require no knowledge to play, not even basic understanding of its rules. Seriously, my girlfriend have no ideia of the game's mechanics. But it is normal, when you write something great you want people to read it, in this case, play it. The more the better. And as when I made this same point previously, you don't want to share your story with only a dozen virgin fat nerds with 40 years old living in their momma's house.

Yeah, I made this point before. But now, seeing my girlfriend playing it is a huge proof of what I said here before. It is dumbed down and it is made for non-RPG people. She enjoys it. Perhaps she buys the next Dragon Age, it will be made for her, not for me, never again. She would never ever play any of the old RPGs, nor would she play Divinity OS, or Wasteland 2, nor any other true RPG I have in my PC or my notebook. But she plays, and loves, Inquisition.

Oh, she loved the other fake RPG I presented her, called Diablo 3, I guess that says a lot about Inquisition. As her experience with games being liking Naruto fighting games and God of War series, well, again, what does it say about Inquisition? If someone who doesn't like RPG likes it, it is clearly not a RPG. She hates RPG, she loves Inquisition. (It started with DA2 in fact, my previous girlfriend who hated Origins and RPG in general loved DA2, the games she loved were Saints Row the Third and Devil May Cry - oh, and of course God of War, and well, she also loved Diablo 3, I really can't understand how people deny DA is going the action way since people who like action and hated previous games now like the recent games...)

Ending:

So you would rather a boring game your girlfriend would never play and that would make Bioware go extinct due to low sales? Of course.
Are you insane? Yeah. Since Inquisition was released I had a mental breakdown and I keep on lashing out like the sky in this forum as if it made any sense at all.

Games don't need to be challenging or have the need for the player to understand the intricacies of it's mechanics. They just need to be fun to play.

Exactly. People put too much emphasis on titles, themes, stereotypes and other such jargon.

I dunno, that's just me. I'm easy going, I enjoy a game exactly for what it is rather than look for reasons why it could suck. I don't measure them up to previous games either...

And what's wrong with Diablo 3? Game was off its ******, man.

But it's back to opinions/subjectivity; people are furious because they want a *real* RPG and clearly Inquisition and Diablo III are impostors, or something.

Meh. I don't give a toss. If it's good, and I happen to like it, then it's good. It's healthy to broaden the mind, anyhow. You miss out on a lot if you stick to one particular style of gaming. ;)

I tried looking it over a couple of times, and most of it didn't make sense to me (and I still can't figure out what George Lucas is supposed to have to do with anything.)

All I can come up with is that you used to like Dragon Age, so it was good, and now you don't like it but your girlfriend does, so that means that it's bad and dumbed down.

I'm sure that she appreciates being used to make that point.

I feel really sorry for your girlfriend...  <_<

1 - How the hell is more people playing the game a bad thing?

2 - You can't play the game without knowing how it works on Nightmare mode. You can on easy. So different people can enjoy the game in the ways they enjoy.

3 - There is no such thing as a "fake" RPG. This might be an RPG you personally don't like, but you are not the authority on what constitutes a "real" RPG.

4 - My boyfriend who hates RPG loved Origins, and won't play Inquisition. So I guess that know means inquisition is a real RPG and Origins is fake??

I would rather have DMC combat and Bioware storytelling this would be perfect game for me.

I wouldn't call DA:I not RPG.But 3 and DA still don't have direction.3 games and Bioware still don't know how Hurlock, Qunari or Elf look like. DA:O origin. When DA2 ok this is different, I like story so I guess I get use to it. DA:I damet fine I make it on easy and enjoy story, and it's running simulator. :(

So, Instead of making actual logical points about what is bad about the game... you are just babbling about how this isn't an RPG and something about 40 yr Olds and virgins and mothers' houses... and something about an imaginary girlfriend but I kinda stopped paying attention. Well said. You just capture the voice of the Internet.

What I'm taking away from this thread is that you have a rather patronising view of your girlfriend and her abilities and interests.  And possibly that it bothers you that you might enjoy something as 'stupid' and 'frivolous' as she would.

I play pen and paper RPGs with various rule systems.  I played, and loved, old-school RPGs like Baldur's Gate.  That doesn't mean every game, or even every RPG, needs a complex stat and skill system.

DA:I is a story-focused RPG, and Diablo is an action RPG/hack and slash.  They both have a place and a market, and the fact that they don't require a lot of stat counting doesn't inherently diminish them, any more than chess is a weak game because you can't decide for yourself how each of the pieces moves (well, you can, I suppose, but then it's not really chess.)

God it must be suck to be so angry over a game for no reason.

summary

DAI is not as you would have wanted it to be, so Bioware sucks.

Correct?

Are you sure that you are not one of  (by your words "virgin fat nerds with 40 years old living in their momma's house.")  Them?

Why do people who have so little to say take so long in saying it? Just saying "I'm a True RPG Gatekeeper and everyone else is having wrongbadfun- fight me!" would have worked.

Because... people like to attempt to inject the idea that they have superior intelligence and authority by typing out long, tiresome paragraphs made up of pseudo-intellectualism and word salad. It's a little like.... "role-playing". ;)

Wait you have a girlfriend who likes to play Inquisition and you are upset? You found a game that both of you can talk about , play and you are upset?

My wife likes to play Jeopardy and Scrabble. Guess what I like to play Jeopardy and Scrabble because we can use it to have time together, which then leads to other togetherness.  I believe in the adage Happy wife. Happy life. You should be happy your girlfriend is enjoying DAI. You should be saying to yourself I think I see an opportunity!

There are many, myself included, who would argue that George Lucas selling his company to Disney was the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the original theatrical release where Han Shot First.  Lucas' passion drove him to do stupid things like create Ewoks / Jar Jar Binks so Star Wars could be "for everyone".  The Clone Wars series, originally on Cartoon Network, at least somewhat made up for those 3 prequel abominations.  Look, CGI EVERYWHERE!  And Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition is actually a fun action RPG on PS3.  None of that auction house crap...

Since Inquisition was released I had a mental breakdown and I keep on lashing out like the sky in this forum as if it made any sense at all.

I sincerely hope this comment is hyperbole like the rest of your post, as that's a serious thing to say.

No, lashing out in this forum makes no sense at all.

Games have evolved, gamer taste has evolved, technology has evolved.

The niche-interest stat table filled hardcore RPG is not what AAA games studios are interested in

and frankly it's not what most people who play what we now call RPG's

(debate the semantics if you will, but if most folk think it is an RPG, it is)

are interested in either, a truth you correctly identify in your post.

Baldur's Gate with next-gen graphics isn't going to happen.

Sure you can build a game with so many more story and role play options when your characters are only a few pixels big, with text.

What BioWare is making now is different, it is more a 'game movie' with some cinematic choices and party combat.

When I played D&D with 20 sided dice, back in the day, my imagination was the only limitation (oh, and the stat table)

but an action RPG can't be that.

Let it go.

Enjoy it for what it is, or do something else.

Be pleased that so many people enjoy it.

Whining on game forums does you no credit and wastes your time,

I struggle to see how you are enjoying making such angry posts about a game you clearly don't like,

and I struggle to see how doing so will make a Nug's whisker of a difference to anything you complain about and you know it.

I'm sorry if the above sounds mean, it's not intended to be,

but I'm not sure how you expect 'everyone' to respond to your thread .

Real RPG... really... in the year 2015 there are still those who would make this argument... ~sigh~. Please show me an official document that details every requirement for a game to be called an RPG.

RPG simply means a game where you assume the role of a character. Nothing more, nothing less and the rest are all open. If you are so cross with the "new and fake RPG" of today, go play Table Top RPG for the "real RPG" experience.

Bioware is a business and like all businesses they will want to make products that reach a greater audience.

You dont like the new direction Bioware is going? You dont like the new direction the gaming industry is going? I can respect that but you dont have to ridicule people who like it.

Oh my gf likes it, it must be bad..... best pray your gf never sees this post :P.

She likes you right???? So... you must be of the same quality of these "fake-rpg" that you despise so much.

A simple fix to this problem is for you to adjust your game difficulty level to Nightmare ( and enable Friendly Fire, for more omph) .

That way you have your 'challenging RPG', but you still can talk about same game with your gf .

Tell me more about how DAO was so horrible that 2 more games were made with high sales based off of promises of expanding DAO and being like DAO but even better.

Next DA game will be a big huge flop! Assuming everybody who made this game popular and a success waits 2 months after release, ignores all critics who don't play the game and ignores everybody who has only played a few hours of a the game.  Wait until many have finished the game and on the 2nd playthrough to know if bioware has lied a 3rd time or will have finally delivered what was promised.
