Fashion or function?

So this is an opinion thread more than anything but I would like to hear what people prioritize in their gear in general. We all know some of the best gear often looks less than great, not to even bring up material coloring. Beyond this some top tier weapons seem not to drop period. So I ask, fashion or function?

I opt for fashion above all else. I don't care how awesome my gear is, how much easier it makes nightmare mode fights (I usually play on Normal or Hard as a rule, still need to finish a hard all the way, dabbled in nightmare some), if I don't like the way my Inquisitor looks the experience just does not satisfy me. For example, I like somewhat heavier armors, swords, and kite and heater style shields. Most relevant here is the sword bit as the best swords seem glitched not to drop. Thus if I want to use swords I sacrifice damage. Not a huge deal on a tank but still, less than optimal.

Fashion freak too here...

Still prefer using the Warden warrior armor above my battlemaster gear, especially silverite one. Nice and shiny plate armor trumps the scaley battlemaster look. I might give it a shot with Dragon Bone soon though, the gold look isn't all that bad for the Warden armor.

If only there was a similar plate armor that was Inquisition themed...

As for swords, I like the Masterwork Engraved Greatsword with the Masterwork Jeweled grip. Thankfully, it has some decent damage too.

Since I mostly play on normal anyways, I can afford picking fashion over function.

Qunari Player - What's this fashion you speak of?  :P

On a not so-silly note, I tend to balance.  Unless it's a vast improvement, I'll stick with a look I like over stats.  Like my mage wore a Hat of the Inquisition that has +4 Willpower for the longest of time.  Only changed it out when I got the schematic and made one that had +6 Willpower.

I definitely don't color co-ordinate on my characters though.  Colorblind here.  I just try to make it look slick and good.

I feel you there. Templar and Legion armors are both, fortunately, good armors that I like the look of, especially in silverite.Warden and Free Army also look good. Battlemaster Mail with Mail Arms and Legs is passable. As for swords (from a sword and shield perspective) Dwarven and Superb Dragon are subpar in damage but with a decent hilt look good enough (masterwork nevarran is nice). I also like the Dragon armors from the perspective that they seem to be heavy leather and scale with plate hardpoints and it looks decent. Not super heavy as is my usual preference but good enough to use. I just wish the "main" armors for each class, this being the ones with arm and leg slots, looked better.

Yeah qunari got the short end of the stick... no unique armors, no helmets, some weapons seem like toys in their hands...

As for color I tend to stick with things in the range of silver, gray, gunsmoke... basically the gray spectrum with a preference for silver. Cloths and leather I tend towards blue or white. Not always mind you but even so.

Hehe, yeah, I feel bad for Qunari players. In my first playthrough, I put some different equipment on Iron Bull and after seeing the effect of that, I decided never to play a Qunari inquisitor lol.

Iron Bull actually looks better in most gear than a Qunari Inquisitor. Some of his variants actually look really good. And he gets a helm. Qunari PCs get... less than great looking armor and not a helm in sight. I get it, horns make helms a bit tricky. But would it be so hard to get a helm made? I mean Bull gets one. I guess they wanted to make qunari "unique." Or were just too lazy to make helm models for them. The latter seems more likely now that I think about it.
