While I do like ME1 and I think the story in it is better than the other two games, I prefer ME2. I found the side missions in ME1 much more annoying than scanning planets in ME2. Though I have no idea why the hell I liked that in the first place. I have completed ME1 five times, but I've lost count how many times I completed ME2. But the last times, I added resources with the save game editor so I could skip the planet scanning. I figured since I had done that so many times, it wasn't cheating ;)

What I really like about the second game is the amount of crew members you recruit and most of their loyalty mission and I missed that in the third game. But I guess story wise it wouldn't have made a lot of sense to do that while there is a full our reaper invasion going on.

I also thought the concept of the suicide mission was great and I really still enjoy playing it.

ME3, there is a lot of things I feel it lacks, but I do enjoy the combat system and the citadel dlc is simply amazing and I can't get enough of it. But then there is always the end. Which I dislike, most importantly because then it's over. :D

I never completed ME3. I technically stopped trying once I realized there was nothing in front of FemShep except death, but that's really just the emotional excuse. The functional excuse is that I couldn't go anywhere in the Galaxy Map anymore because I could no longer escape the Reapers. Such an idiotic minigame.

The first two I must have done 50 times each. I finished every DLC for those two except Arrival, which I skipped because I was so hot for ME3 and I take a dim view of games where entire missions fail the second a pin drops in enemy presence. Pretty much covered Splinter Cell for me too.

I can't remember what DLC I bought for ME3. Not much.

Shepard doesn't need to die :)

And what about the Reaper mini-game? You should only be sent back to the Normandy when they touch you, I believe. And you can still escape the Reapers. If you have trouble with it, just make sure you go to a system with a mass relay and enter it from the right side, which will place you directly next to the relay and you can escape easily.

And if you have the Reapers everywhere one the maps, completing a mission will get rid of them, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I actually find completing no.1 the hardest. For a number of reasons: the mako exploration does my head in. It's got MAJOR issues on PS3, like it crashes ever mission, the ending you have to not use ANY skills other than shooting or you can't get past the Saren fight, my ps3 just freezes and dies multiple times. The UNC collection quests do my head in as well although they are completely skipable.

I didn't know they disappeared after mission completions nor did I notice that the Mass Relays always appear on the right side of the map. I'll have to look into that. Getting caught by them constantly got very annoying. I think it was the combination of having to refuel and run from Reapers. At one point I could no longer get to a refueling station and simply got caught every time. It's been a while - I can't remember the precise order of events. Only that the minigame made it no longer worth the effort.

Especially once I'd realized that single player had indeed been slaved to multiplayer opposite everything that was promised, and that without multiplayer there was no way to survive the end game. I simply lost interest at that point and went back to repeating ME1 and ME2, albeit with reduced enjoyment since it could never be the same as when I felt it was going somewhere.

Thanks for the info though. If I ever see a revival of my wish to finish 3, I will keep these things in mind. Right now I think it's on a drive from a computer I've since replaced several times. I know all of my ME1 and ME2 saves are.

If you download the Extended Cut, which is free, it lowers your EMS needed for Shepard's survival. No more MP needed (luckily) :)

The only problem I have is during the fight with sarenhopper. The game has frozen a couple of times on my ps3

Unless I'm doing something specific in ME1, I just do the main missions to get to ME2

I died for the first time against Sarenhopper for the first time for about 5 years the other day. I should have levelled up a bit more before going to Ilos.

The only mission I tend to avoid in Mass Effect is the one with the Husks on a spaceship. It can get really annoying at times when they start to rush you, fall at your feet or float in the air, and Shepard just keeps trying to melee instead of shooting the other attacking Husks.

Mass Effect 2 became a lot more enjoyable for me when I used the saved editor to just give myself all the resources I need. Cerberus brought me back to life and gave me a spaceship. I think they can spare some minerals.

In ME3 I tend to just do the main missions and ME2 character related ones. It just feels like an endless slog of shooting galleries and if I wanted that I'd play a Gears of War game which do it so much better.

The Gibbed editor made ME2 a lot more fun, as you never had to want for money or minerals.

Not to mention Paragon nor Renegade.  I treat my crew and allies Paragon, and go full Renegade on the bad guys - seems more realistic to me

These days all I do is trilogy playthroughs.  I will start out a Shepard in ME 1 and will stick with that same Shepard from the time their boots first hit the ground on Eden Prime all the way until they meet the catalyst.  I also keep that Shepard the same class through out all three games for the sake of consistency.  It admitedly makes for a long playthrough but it is so worth it because it keeps things that happened with that specific Shepard in previous games fresh.   When someone brings up Virmire in ME 2 or ME 3 I still remember doing virmire with that specific Shepard very recently.

I don't play on PC so no fancy editors for me but since I always import from ME 1 when I play ME 2 I find that the import bonuses make scanning  pretty much unnecessary for the first several hours of ME 2, when you combine that with the upgrade that you can get from Miranda scanning really isn't that time consuming.  I don't find myself scanning until I hit the second half of the game.

You certainly do need some kind of motivation for the second game... I kept mindlessly scanning planets because I was absolutely sure Kaidan would rejoin my crew as long as I kept doing the missions. And he never did. ._. Sadly, that was my main motivating factor throughout that whole game. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as ME1. I don't think I've even played it once since I finished my first playthrough.

The save editors work for the console versions of the game too.

I make things hard on myself when I do full trilogy runs, because I insist on reaching the max level of each game before progressing to the next, and ME1 is easily the most punishing to do this, because unless you can edit something manually in your favor, you have to do a second playthrough in order to reach level 60. I've tried everything and killing every single enemy on foot instead of with the Mako and even used the Noveria dialogue exploit to max out my renegade and paragon so I can get both missions and still couldn't do it in a single play. Needless to say when I finally got my main Shepard's ME1 complete playthrough completed, I never attempted that again with any other character.

With ME2, at least I only have to do it once since I just have to get to 30 and it's fairly easy to get everything done, but damn do I hate planet scanning. ME3 I find I can replay the most.

I just play ME1 and finish at around level 32 or 33. There's really no difference importing a level 60 character except the level the player starts at in ME2. Depending on my ME2 playthrough, I might finish at level 16 or higher. Very rarely do I import a level 30 character into ME3

I don't think I could finish the games at those levels without skipping quite a fair amount of content, which is something I'll never do.

Wow, I like to do thorough playthroughs but I can never go that far.  I am content with importing a level 50 or so.  I only started bothering with the asari writings due to the dialog we get with Conrad Verner in ME 3.

I'm sort of a collection hound so I had to get them all, even though I didn't think that anything would come of them. I didn't even remember what the Elkoss Combine license did, but I bought it because it was there and my Shep was gaining more credits than she could spend. I was pleasantly surprised by Conrad's dialogue though. I totally forgot that I even got them. I was amused that meager busy work across barren rocks sort of paid off.

I recommend for those who get bored of the planet scanning in ME2 to just only scan the planets with the 'high' rating for materials and all. I scanned every planet my first playthrough and realized that if you just focus on the 'high' rating planets you usually have enough resources to get all the upgrades and etc.

I've done several playthroughs without having to do any scanning.

I have played ME1, over and over and over - well, actually I've played all of them many, many times. It surprised me, because I wasn't online at the moment (for ME3) and I wasn't aware about the hype, I had created my own hype which was HUGE, to say the least. I got so happy when I just sort of bumped into the Demo on the 360, and the very next day was the release here in Sweden (well, Europe I suppose).

But then... Oh oh oh, I was so tired of ME3, and the cutscenes, even before I could board the Normandy, I never thought I'd even finish it.

Edit: I didn't (and still don't) have the DLC which Anderson is refering to in the beginning, so that wasn't a very good start for me, since he kind of p'd me off with such a comment re: Shepard's actions. I felt he must have gone mad or something, not remembering. lol

Then, there was the never-ending-repetitive-sacrifices, left and right (it was how I felt at the time, not now), the complete lack of a Journal etc etc ec. I was so fed up with it, and extremely disappointed with a lot of things, so by the time it was ending, I had already - literary - given up. I just let my self-walking-stick for a controller, walk, and I laid back, sighing.

But now, I have even bought the Trilogy again (although only played ME1, so far, a little ME2) for my PS3. The controllers works like the opposite of the Xbox controller, and my memory is too poor, so that is actually the only reason I haven't finished them yet.

I don't know, today, how I would feel about the ending. My thought, when I purchased it, was to play until almost the end, and then play the Citadel DLC.

I do have a problem with the scanning in ME2 (and DAI) due to my arthritis. My hands and wrists can't take it, but that hasn't stopped me before, and I wish there was another way, but I take a break (like now) and then I can come back.

Somehow, in the midst of my "ME3-depression" I did just LOVE the combat, which was great, and I think that very positive (well that, and Garrus  lol naaah, other great things too about ME3) made me play it again, and again - not always to the very end, but still enjoy all of them. :D

When I play ME 1 and ME 2, I play them completely.  I do every mission, find every mineral (in ME 1), I do all of the UNC quests, all of the N7 quests and all of the DLC's.  Yes, I even find that annoying Keeper that goes on 'smoke break' from time to time.

The Citadel was one of the most amazing places I have ever been, and I can still remember my first playthrough.  I recall wondering how big the place really was, and also figuring out that I was LOST.  It seems silly now, but learning the Citadel the first time was mind boggling.  The music on it was pretty amazing as well (except for Flux, but that's why you have some good Squad banter in there)

I'm a completionist, and I enjoy the immersion.

Oops. I didn't know there was any other way to do it. In fact, I've played the exact same FemShep as first hit the deck with boots through...EVERY playthrough. Like, in life.

They get easier when you start every ME2 game at level 60 or whatever, lol!

Okay I put down my Vanguard for two games. Just couldn't resist that sniper rifle. ;)
