This doesn't make much sense. DA2 had a deeper skill system than DA:O did, and better Tactics. If you think DA:I comes up short in these areas, that doesn't mean that DA:I is like DA2. Unless all "DA2" means here is "a Bio game that Bioware-Critic didn't like"?

What DA2-2.0 means to me is: The further dumbing down of the franchise!

They tried very hard with DA2 to make it more appealing to the mass market. And they went further down that rabbit hole with this installment.

To me the usability and practicality of the skill system in DA:O is superior to the system of DA2 - PERIOD !!! It has more variety and it is more easy to mix different styles and strategies with that system ... The skill-system of DA2 was more focused inside the individual trees themselves, yes, but the system itself - the system as a whole - was not deeper than Origins'.  Seriously - I mean that!

And I also think that even though DA2 has a good tactics system - DA:O does too B)   ... Inquisition on the other hand does not.

The concept of Inquisition is nothing else than the strategy to conquer the mass market form DA2 simply taken to it's full conclusion!

I recognize that strategy and I am not amused ...

It's popular amongst old-school RPG fans because it has an excellent combat system. It gets repetitive after Act 1, the writing is VERY hit and miss (and I've seen as many people hate it than like it,) and the story was pretty meh. But it provides engaging combat and so it's been hyped a little, and it provided decent graphics which pulled in people outside of old-school RPG fans. Funnily enough, D:OS is overhyped pretty significantly by the same people who hate how the media overhype AAA games...

Sadly, you might have a point there! A big one too, I must admit ...

BUT STILL - I WANT MY DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY ... $%&(/$ ... S*HIT ... IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A RPG - FCOL!

I hate this bland oversimplified mainstream-friendly BS  <_<  Grrrrrr

If you say so. I thought that the weapon trees in DA:O were very weak, myself, and that DA2 really improved on them.

Well, for me it is the other way around. But if we were all the same - life would be boring :)

Anyways, thank you for your response, AlanC9!

You know...

For me, as a German, in the beginning it was very hard for me to see this movie (the full movie). The whole topic of the holocaust is very close to my heart - as it is for most Germans. We get very sensitive about everything that remotely relates to it because we were educated about all the horrible crimes of the NAZI-regime in our history classes in school very well and very thoroughly! But even before this education takes place ... When you open your first real history book, at the age of ten or so, when you are eager to learn and open the biggest book you got from your teacher when entering 5th grade or so, your new history book, and you flip through the pages: That s*hit f*ucks you up, man! YOU WILL CLOSE THAT HISTORY BOOK IMMEDIATELY - TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! You have ZERO interest in history for the next couple of weeks and this knowledge of your people's crimes will be with you wherever you go for the rest of your life!

And so it was not very funny to me, when I saw the first funny adaption of this scene on yt and it took me quite a while to even be able to watch one version of it. And now ... I stumbled in the BSN because I had to vent my DA-fanboyism  and I stumbled across this video ... and I found the video to be not so bad ...

I call that progress :wizard:

And when it comes to Jack - I would really have loved to have her in my party in ME3. Along with many others ...

Gameplay - Neverwinter Nights.  The GM Client, Toolset and Player Client were ahead of their time and I consider them cutting edge even today (only thing dated are the graphics).  DA:O was supposed to have them from what I remember - if any game let me down, it was DA:O.

Storywise - DA:O is pretty generic. I think in terms of the flavor they were going for.. DA: I and, Maker help me... DA:2 were far more creative.  Though I think DA:2 REALLY missed the mark - and DA:I is "still too generic", but I consider a great first effort at something new.

Nope - DA:O was fun, and it is one of the few games I've played several times - but there is, and will be, better.

Bioware fans: "Call of Duty is terrible because it does the same thing over and over again. It's an insult to fans.

...why can't they make a game exactly like the original Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins?!"

Completely disagree with OP.  Games evolve.  Players want different experiences even from the same franchise.  DAO had numerous dlc's and a large expansions I did not want any more of that game.  If I want more I will play it again.  I just find it odd that folks seem to think gaming was perfected in one particular era and should just be an endless spawn of whatever they interpreted that to be.  Accept the game for what it is/  It can be enjoyable and lovely; it is not going to be DAO.

Us humans with our University educations, "we are software Makers", think games up, plan, program and test them to do exactly what we wish them to do. They don't program themselves or come about by themselves.....we are the Makers of software games. They change becaue we make them change by our programming to get more out of them so customers will buy even more. Software Engineers are very intelligent, educated and programming games are very logical and complex tasks. No software programmers = no games.

I honestly can't remember were I read this but after DA:O was finsihed, someone from that team high up didn't like the direction the series was going, so that person quit. Bioware hired someone else to go that other direction and gave us DA2 and DA:I. That's why the series started to go downhill.

DA:I wasn't a horrible game but it definitely wasn't a great game and RPG game of 2014.

Maybe those who just bought a PS4 or XBox One would say that......maybe those who've never played any Dragon Age games prior would say that.......maybe those who've never played real proper RPG video games before would say that........

- hack and slash

- simplifed

- dumbed down

- very limited to what you can do

- should be able to do much more than as it is now.....

- need a controller for consoles

- turned back on PC gamers but said it was optimzed for PC......

- very short game and lame ending with dragon and boss

But it had great graphics so that's okay. :-)p

Best game ever right?

And I've played many PC games from way back so I know what RPG's games should be like. DA:I is not a RPG game, but does have some RPG elements in it.

It is worth the money for a play through, true, but after that, done.

DAO, Baldurs Gate, Never winter knights, , etc. those games were all great.

Back then, games were more for PC and today, more for consoles and controllers.

Bioware has to make money, so they went the console route.

Will I run out and buy an XBox One or PS4? No.

How do you make more money today?

- more hack and slash

- quicker, simpler, easier with some challenges

- better graphics, eye candy

- better music and sound effects

- longer cut scenes

- cater to the XBox One and PS4 crowds.

So in other words, this guy much rather have them cater to the PC players because he feels self-entitled and that the games should only run the way he wants them too. Origins had the better story and tactics but that was about it. DA O's combat was very slow and boring compared to 2 and Inquisition. I'll take "hack and slash" over "sit there and watch my guy auto-attack something and hope he hits his target" anyday

I've taken about a month away from the game now, letting myself reflect on what I liked and didn't like. Overall, Inquisition was alright, but I came to the conclusion that if it wasn't for the fact that I played Origins and loved it so much, I wouldn't give a damn about this game. Basically, this game was made bearable by the fact that it's borrowing heavily from my adoration of Origins.

Bioware, you've consistantly made design desions that drive more and more of your fans away. I've read interviews were some game designers and writers almost seem embarrassed by Origins, and it baffles me. That game should be the mirror you compare all your others to. Stop trying to be edgy for the sake of edginess. Stop trying to tell the fans what they want. Stop shitting all over the award winning franchise you started in Origins. Stop trying to reinvent everything. It's not working.

Well clearly some things are working...I adore Origins for what it is, but that game certainly wasn't perfect. I think evolution in the franchise is inevitable. As it is, I'm pleased with most of the improvements that have been made. With luck, future installments will feature even better things.

I don't want DA:I to be like Origins. I loved Origins and played the heck out of it and had a great gaming experience. But now I want something new. I like DA:I, I like the new combat, I like the "open" world and side quests. I just wish there was more of the main story. It's my main complaint.

Gotta go Indie I'm afraid, no AAA RPG has depth and complexity any more. That being said, it's a wonderful time for hardcore RPG fans, with plenty of Indie titles coming out. It's a good time to be alive, I haven't felt so excited about the RPG industry for 10 years or more...

Which titles did you enjoy the most in the last time or which ones are waiting for the most that will come out in the immediate future.

I loved for example: ToEE with Co8 mod, Drakensang 1+2, IWD2 (especially HOF mode), DA:O (especially Awakening), ...

I am keen on trying out "Pillars of Eternity".

I enjoyed Shadowrun and its sequel, and also Divinity Original Sin. Wasteland 2 also. They're not perfect but they ticked a lot of the right boxes for me. I’m keeping an eye on Pillars of Eternity, but no combat xp and the balancing of that game have a lot of people wary.

I also really enjoy Academagia, which is like an RPG without a combat system (so a sim instead.) It’s ONLY for people who are really hard-core into stats though. You’re a student in a magical school and you have to choose which skills you level up. You’ll have random encounters and the options to go on adventures and you’ll only be able to progress if you have enough points in your skills (in an interactive fiction sort of way.)

I’m really looking forward to Sunless Sea. It’s unforgivingly hard, and it’s interactive fiction where choices matter, so it looks pretty kickarse. Only a month to go!

Underrail looks interesting… if it ever gets released >:c. I'm keen to try 80 Days also, but I don't have a smartphone.

AAA games, I really enjoy Telltale’s games. I enjoyed the Mass Effect games (Mass Effect 3 blew me away.) I haven’t actually been a big fan of DragonAge games since DA2, but I think they cop a very bad rap for a number of reasons that don’t have anything to do with the games themselves.

Totally agree! And although it is tempting to make fun of Skyrim and it's "RPG-elements" for me right now :D I want to say something that means a whole lot more to me ... Maybe others will laugh about this but ...

The talking tree in the Brecilian Forest was the most awesome thing I have ever encountered in a VG - Period! I am a German and we say about ourselves that we are a people of poets and thinkers. There was a time in history (obviously before 1933, before 1914 ...) when we were known for that. And I can say that the German translation and the voice acting of the tree at the time had enough to draw me in as a German. I loved that tree ^_^ ... And I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the Brecilian Forest as well. The insane old man who is paranoid and tries to play games with you all the time? Priceless! Fighting against living trees - awesome fantasy! ... I also got s*hitfaced by Revenants every time! The wrecked my party like nothing else in that game. As far as I can tell they were not really into poetry :crying: ...

Spoiler

I loved the Tree-Ants in the Brecillian Forest and Great Oak Tree, his rhymes were perfect lol, made me laugh how Morrigan seemed a bit annoyed at the tree and his ryhmes. What I really loved about that Forest though were the Ruins, that Temple that served as a sort of burial temple for those ancient Elves who wished to be buried and lie in a permanent sleep. The Elven Child that appears and is looking for his mother was haunting and sad, and the fact that he spoke in Elvish, as well as what seemed to be the spirit of his mother later on when you found her in the burial chamber, was haunting and yet inspiring, as she spoke fully Elvish too.

The gem with the entrapped Elven Battle Mage was haunting as well, especially since the spirit recalled both humans and elves fighting against a common unknown enemy that threatend both sides. The whole thing suggested that humans and elves were actually living peacefully in that forest and both sides using the Temple to pay homage to the Elven Gods, from what I remember reading in the codex. I guess that unknown threat that came and attacked both sides must have been Tevinter.

What inspires me most out of Dragon Age is the story of Arlathan and the Elves, along with their Elvish Gods.

You said your German? Dann konnten wir ja uns auch auf Deutsch unterhalten, nicht?

Also, Servus!

(I apologize for the spoiler to DAO above, but I have no idea how people set it up so that such things can be hidden in a spoiler tab or whatever it is called. Must be some sort of code.)

P.S: About the Brecillian Forest; I am willing to place a bet, that Bioware will include that and other areas not included in DAI with a future DLC. It is a distinct feeling I have. Looking at DAO and DAII and the DLCs that came out for both games, one can safely assume that DAI will get several DLCs, or at the least one massive DLC.

And I wager, that it will expand on the story of Arlathan and the Elven Gods. Just wait and see. I am making that bet. ;)

Well hello to all...

Im playing Dragon Age Origins (this is my 6 time im playing it) and is great, ofc is old, but is great.

i played baldurs gate, neverwinter, ice wind dale, well some of u can know.

i played dragon age 2 and was... "oke".

How many hours cost for u Dragon age Origins+ DLC.. Baldurs, IceWindDale, neverwinter...

And in how many minutes u finished Dragon Age 2?

Now im going for... 95 hours playing Dragon Age Inquisition..

This game is not so bad, its new, a new history (loved my Grey Warden) but well.

i keep some opinions i have to another thread.

so for me (and i dont think im alone with this feeling) Inquisition is not so bad; can be a lot better... way better with some update, its not so bad, they can bring us one great update, the game is relative new so, we have to wait =)

Ill go to make the other Thread so cya later, and sry if some1 get mad with my post, u can talk to my if u want =)

No need for tactics in DA2. Friendly fire was switched off on anything but Nightmare mode, and all the game really needed of the player was to mash the awesome button til the fight was done. Pretty much the same thing in DA:I. Just cast a barrier spell and mash buttons. There is so little tactics required, it is becoming a joke.

You might be interested in Blackguards. It uses the same system as the Drakensang games, and the same setting as well. No heroics in the game, though. You play as a group of villains.

I just need something more somehow. It is as if the world isn't big enough. Extra maps, adventures and quests could do the job.
I played Skyrim for more than 2.000 hours. The game was so huge because of the DLC's and the mod options. I kind of miss something like this. Something that can compensate. I'd like to be able to have more influence on changes in the game.

I've played Dragon Age: Inquisition for 480 hours now. I'm on my 4th playthrough. I didn't end the game because I've read that the game dies when you have finished it. All maps are dead etc.
I have reached the point where I know most of the maps, the creatures, the quests, the dialogues, the puzzles, the crafting and preparing variations.

2000 hours???

That's...  just...  more... than 3 month of your life     (without sleeping).

Calculating with 7 hours sleep per day, its more than 4 months!

Bro... Go and see the doctor <_< .
