And no, it’s not because she’s not-elfy elf. Let’s assume for the sake of reference that she’s at least early twenties. And I've brought these points up in some other threads
1) She moved from Fereldan to Orlais – in particular, post-blight Denerim to Orlais. I imagine this would cost a great deal of money to pull off, even if she hitch-hiked all the way there. And, even if she had that sort of coin on her, how long ago, exactly, did she move from Denerim to Orlais? She mentions that Denerim was “no-fun” after the blight, so I imagine that she moved around that time frame – but she must have been like, 12 or so when the Blight happened.
2) Taverns aren’t cheap either, especially if one LIVES in them. And since Red Jenny work doesn’t ALWAYS pay, one wonders, firstly, just how loaded Sera was when Lady Emmald (the “noble” that raised her) died. Sera DID say to Cassandra that she wasn’t “even near the bottom of what normal people live through”
3) What happened that led Sera to the Red Jennys, exactly? What happened to the house that “noble” lived in? Did anybody know about Sera while she was living with the noble? Why did the noble choose an elf of all people to adopt and why did nobody find it strange that an elven child suddenly came under the care of a human noble? Wouldn’t it stand out that some elf inherited something from a noble, too? Why did Red Jennys even associate with her considering that she was just a kid at the time? I dunno about you, but if I were a crime master I wouldn’t trust a kid to keep their mouths shut about things.
4) She likes dragons. Now pardon me, but it’s a bit weird that she hates darkspawn but not the big scary dragon part of it. Especially since this dragon was apparently so terrifying that even the Warden was like “oh crap” when it showed up. On top of that, it showed up in Denerim as well and did some major damage, if I’m remembering correctly. So, either Josephine is wrong and the real reason she doesn’t like darkspawn is because they look funny (which is commentary added in her codex), or she wasn’t in Denerim for that part in particular. And if the codex is wrong, how much of the codex can we trust, considering the large majority of it is based on observations?
5) Speaking of the Codex: How the hell does she know when something is added to her codex? It would be a different story if it was messed with the first time, but she repeatedly does it, which means that she repeatedly looks at it, and why would she repeatedly look at it?
6) Why is it that our spymaster with years of experience in spy work and expertise so great that not just one but two Divines, not to mention our ambassador who served an empire for years as well, couldn’t find anything on Sera, but Vivienne, who probably could give less than two shits about someone outside the court or someone irrelevant, somehow has gotten ahold of information on her, if this banter is anything to go by:
Sera: "I bet you left a trail."
Viv: "Whatever are you on about now dear?"
Sera: "What you use to be. Wherever you're from. Little People will know about you."
Viv: "We all have something we use to be, haven't we dear? Dumb things we would rather let die than have known? By all means, escalate, but I will answer in kind, armed with painful history I am sure is better left to your own sad memory."
Sera: "She's friggen evil she is."
7) Let’s not get into her banter with Cole and Solas, like wow. She's got some weird magic going on there
8) Sera claims not to remember her parents, so she was orphaned young. Okay. She was picked up by a noble when she was caught stealing. Okay. So, call me stupid, but I don’t think someone who was probably 4 years old when they were orphaned was so skilled at stealing that they managed to survive long enough to be caught robbing nobility. On top of that, how does someone like that even get robbed by a kid? How does anybody, really, considering that she must have been pretty young? A well trained guard not only would’ve been able to catch up with her, and even if she duck and hid, let’s face it, a guard would’ve had experience dealing with thieves to begin with and figured out where she was. Either Sera wasn’t just a gifted archer but a master thief at a young age, or those were some pretty incompetent guardsmen. (Then again, if it was Denerim, but at the same time, she robbed a noble.) However, she did deny that she was born in Denerim, at the very least (banter with Cassandra) so like. How did she GET to Denerim? Was she adopted in not-Denerim and THEN moved?
9) Sera seems more scared of magic than normal people (like, what the hell Redcliffe, your entire town was overrun by zombies summoned by a mage, but you’re ALL okay with an army of them showing up and taking over the place? They literally used one of your huts to murder tranquil and clean their skulls out), and knows a couple of mages herself (prior to the Inquisition, according to her banter with Dorian), if I’m remembering a conversation tidbit correctly. Except. How the hell does she know any mages at all, considering that a normal person probably would’ve never encountered a mage unless they were apostates? (Granted, she new that one boy in Denerim, but does that really count as a mage?) Especially if she lived in Fereldan, which only has two circles, and one of them was in the SEA and the other was literally miles upon miles away in LAKE CALENHAD? And if she met them in Orlais, where, exactly? Vivienne seems to be a huge exception of someone who’s prominent in the court, and I think the Circles in Orlais would be uppity if their mages were engaged with prominent thieves/murderers like the Red Jennies.
10) Swears she saw Leliana, and that she was familiar. I don’t buy that she saw her around in Denerim, because she doesn’t say that about Morrigan. At all. And I would think that Morrigan would stand a lot more than Leliana.
11) Where does she get all her arrows? And no, not Dorian’s ass.
12) What happens when Sera paints?!
There’s probably more little things out there, but like, this is the stuff I remember off the top of my head. God why can't we ask companions about these things
