XD I think Sera's in the game just to make your brain crack.

Honestly everytime I hear her talk I just rub my temples.

Curse the Jar of Bees. CURSE THEM BEING SO GOOD.

The thing is, I guess, is that I have role played characters (and have similarly encountered people who played such characters) who exhibited similar actions/activities to Sera, so when I look at the sketchiness of her past, I just see proof that while Sera can be an idiot about some things, she isn't stupid.

She's a lot smarter/perceptive than she lets on, if she can even hide things AND still be brutally honest.

Sera lies. A lot. She should be in the dictionary as a the picture for an unreliable narrator.  If there is one thing I've learned from Bioware writing is there is a lot of unreliable sources.

Funny, but I don't think Sera has ever told a lie. Or capable of telling a good one at that. Too uh....Untactful.

I don't think Sera would hold good opinions of people who would use her as a means to an end,.

Did you not realize that that's exactly what she does? She uses servants for information or a key and then robs the noble. That's why the guy in her quest kills his one servant and probably some others.

Except she sees it as doing it as a favor and does it on a whim. I would not describe that as being someone's tool.

Maybe lie is the wrong word, but she proclaims that she was just able to pick up and use a bow without training, but later in the approval path (maybe just romance idk first playthrough) she says she did receive training from other Jennys. She doesn't have the tact to hide secrets but she certainly has them (see hatred of cookies).

She says specifically that she may have gotten one or two lessons to start, but the rest was on instinct/practice

And of course she has secrets, that's why I made this thread because there's just tons of stuff out there that we don't really know. I don't even think we get an option to press her for details about her past, and considering that we can ask about the others' pasts and they speak somewhat freely about it, well, that just makes Sera's aversions more notable. Even Solas talks about him traveling the fade and such. When was the last time you heard Sera even talk about an adventure she did? Or anything to do with her past, outside the cookies thing?

Of all the things in the world, the only thing she talks about when it comes to her past...is cookies.

Sera is a great addition to a Dragon Age game...if we could have Sera and Isabela together it would be a riot i'm sure. I do hope that Sera isn't just a 1 game character though.

Yeah that kind of RP doesn't suit me. I just end up annoyed. I prefer charismatic evil/noble good than...whatever Sera is.

Subspace pocket. Same place your companions go when you jump on your mount, same place your mount goes when you jump off it and copious amounts of arrows.

A classic device of visual storytelling.

On the Lelianna part. it's hinted that Sera was the one the hof gave the painted box to in Denerum.

How do you steal enough money to travel thousands of miles from a land that's been ravaged by the blight and therefore probably doesn't have that much coin on in it?

You steal a horse. Horses do the travel thing pretty good.

Regarding money and travel though, this hardly ever comes up in DAO when your Warden travels circles around the whole blight-ravaged land with a pack of friends, doesn't it? Not sure why we'd need to be so more strict applying this to Sera.

She seems pretty simple and down to earth to me. I can see her strong opinions being difficult for some though.

About Vivienne, I think she's just gloriously bluffing. She can read people very well and is using it against her.

Yeah, that's how I saw it. Vivienne correctly assumed that Sera has things from her past she wouldn't want known. It got the desired effect and Sera didn't realize it was a bluff. Vivienne's on a whole other level when it comes to trolling.

1. Why assume it costs a lot of money to move? No evidence that she stayed in Inns along the way. If she left with a group they could have walked and camped along the way, or taken a boat maybe.

2. Probably did have some coin but assuming she was with a group they could have scavenged along the way. They probably would have loaded up on goods before leaving. For all we know they had a wagon full of stuff since we have no idea who she left with or why they left.

3. We dont need to flesh out someones life down to the smallest detail but I can see ways a kid can become involved with Red Jennies. The fact she was an elf kid with a nobel would kind of bring her to the attention of the Red Jennys.

6. Viv was bluffing. Viv is also a Mary SUe type character that is written to always win in conversations.

8. Who said she robbed nobility? I dont remember if she says so or not. Sera may have tried to steal an apple from a vendor and got caught in front of the noble who felt sorry for her.

9. Some people are scared of spiders, some are scared of magic. She doesnt have to know mages to be scared of magic. I dont know any Crips but Id be nervous being in a room with one.

10. Maybe Morrigan wasnt with Lelianna at the time?

11. I think the whole Doriane/Sera banter about having so many arrows was a poke at game mechanics.

Maybe because she just got to know you? She's being protective of herself because she doesn't know you yet.

Look at Solas and Blackie if you want to talk about lies.

Sera is literally just the fantasy equivalent of your average internet prankster.  The Red Jennies are even structured like internet hacktivist collectives, amorphous, multiple goals, multiple groups, no centralized purpose or leadership aside from "sticking it to the man."

That's not flattering considering most of those internet prankesters are usually the types to go after the wrong people and ruin someone's life who had nothing to do with whatever their rage is.

I KNOW.

(But how do the wasps simply not kill the bees?)

Exactly. It's not meant to be a flattering descriptor, just the way that I've come to understand Sera, and I think the primary motivation behind how she is written and what she does.  If Thedas were modern day Earth, Sera would be a "self taught" internet troll hacker.
